China Glaze Xpress-Ahh! – #vintagepolishfriday

China Glaze Xpress-Ahh! – #vintagepolishfriday

I don’t think that I have ever been a fan of a simple brown color for my nails. The closest I ever came to it was when I became obsessed with Tom Ford Bitter Bitch strictly because of the name. Do you remember when I wrote up my April Fool’s post regarding this polish? Oh boy, that was pretty funny especially the comments. Feel free to check it out here. Now, the reason why I’m talking about brown polish is because I have an interesting polish for Vintage Polish Friday that just happens to be brown: China Glaze Xpress-Ahh! Let me show you what I did with it below. Continue reading “China Glaze Xpress-Ahh! – #vintagepolishfriday”

Drip Marble Nails

Drip Marble Nails

I know hat I’ve said that I am going to try to incorporate more nail art into my posts, but it’s so hard when you’re a nail art dunce like me. I can paint my nails with my eyes closed, but when it comes to even the simplest of nail art techniques, I have to practice and practice and then practice some more. While I have seen drip marble nails all over the interwebs, I have never actually attempted the technique myself. When I started seeing Tiffany from Polish and Paws do some gorgeous drip marble manis, I decided to give it a try. Let me show you how my first attempt turned out. Sally Hansen Color Filters Top Coats

Sally Hansen Color Filters Top Coats

One of the best ways to transform a polish is by using a specialty top coat or by layering it with an interesting sheer polish. OPI Man Of La Mancha anyone? Recently, I got some information regarding the Sally Hansen Color Filters top coats, and I decided to try two of them out. As with all top coats, the base color that you use will determine the end look; darker colors definitely pop. The top coats come in three different formulas: Diffuse, Smoulder and Strobe. I have the first two to share with you today so let me show you some swatches. Continue reading “Sally Hansen Color Filters Top Coats”

OPI Lisbon Collection

OPI Lisbon Collection

I think that I have often mentioned that I spent a year in France as an exchange student. It was a wonderful opportunity even though I might not have entirely realized it at the time. Looking back now, one of my biggest regrets is not having traveled more. Living in Paris, I had access and time to travel so much, but I ended up not taking advantage of it. I will admit that I fell in love with Italy and ended up making multiple trips that took me from Venice to Rome. One of the places I wish I had visited is Portugal. I met quite a few Portuguese students in Paris and they were always warm, friendly and always asked me if my family was Portuguese due to my last name. I don’t have any Portuguese blood as far as I know, but I wouldn’t mind it one bit. Since I never got a chance to visit Portugal, I hope that I can one day make it so I can see the sights and definitely wander the streets of its capital: Lisbon. While I don’t know how representative the OPI Lisbon Collection is of the city it is inspired by, I won’t miss a chance to show you my top picks below. Continue reading “OPI Lisbon Collection”

OPI Grease Collection

OPI Grease Collection

Do you remember the first time that you watched Grease? I was probably 10 or 11 years old the first time that I watched it, and I remember how much I liked the story and the music. It made me want to be “older” so I could be in high school…little did I know that high school was going to be more Billy Madison than Grease. Anyway, this weekend I did a quick trip of my beauty supply stores in Little Saigon, but half of them were not open Saturday morning. It was a total bummer because I only got to check out 4 of them instead of my usual 8. Yeah, I know…boo hoo! One of the stores had the OPI Grease Collection so I ended up getting my favorite 6 shades which is what I have to show you today. Onto the swatches! Continue reading “OPI Grease Collection”

Orly Uniquely Satin – #vintagepolishfriday

Orly Uniquely Satin – #vintagepolishfriday

When I first started being a serious polish hoarder collector, one of my favorite things was finding beauty supply stores that are off the beaten path. Luckily, the area where I live is full of independent beauty supply stores and I quickly learned the ins and outs of these stores. A handful of them have closed and opened since I started collecting, so I ventured out further, even driving 2+hrs in search of the next great beauty supply. I have found a few that have new products as well as plentiful stock of old and discontinued polishes. In the last year, I had a lot of things going on that sucked the interest in nail polish out of me. Luckily, as you can see by my consistent posting, I’m back on track and hope to  visit some of these polish stores soon. During one of my outings, I discovered a bunch of old Orly polishes, one of them being Orly Uniquely Satin. Let me show you some swatches below before I tell you about the polish. Favorite Nail Care Products

Favorite Nail Care Products

As a nail swatcher and all-around nail polish enthusiast, I have to be on top of taking care of my hands and nails. I feel that I am lucky in that I have naturally strong nails, but I do tend to have very dry skin which obviously affects my cuticles. Many years ago, I used to bite my nails and cuticles to the point of making them bleed which is why I started wearing acrylics. Lucky, this helped me kick the biting habit but I also have to stay on top of avoiding hangnails and such because it will tempt me to bite them. Gross, I know! Well, today I have some of my favorite nail care products to share with you; these are items I use often to help keep my hands and cuticles well hydrated and soft. Color Club Bell Bottom Babe

Color Club Bell Bottom Babe

In my area there are a lot, and I mean a lot, of beauty supply stores. Some of them carry newer stuff, and others are like the beauty supply stores that time forgot. I love going to the one that carry all the older collections because I know that sooner or later, I will find some random gems. There is one particular store that is about an hour away that I used to visit from time to time and I always found interesting things there, but you need a lot of time and a lot of patience to go through the racks. I went to a new store a couple of months ago and loaded up on some mainstream goodies and managed to get some Color Club polishes. Lately I have been all about the contrasting shimmer polishes so when I saw Color Club Bell Bottom Babe, I knew it was one that I needed to add to my stash. Let me show you some swatches below. KBShimmer Fig-Get About It

KBShimmer Fig-Get About It

I made it through the weekend, and I survived Saturday at Chuck E. Cheese’s with my brats. Jonas was on his best behavior for a while, but it seems that he gets very shy when he is the center of attention. When we started singing to him so he could blow out his candles, he started crying! I think he just felt overwhelmed with all of the attention because he got over it fairly quickly once we moved on. He was also crazy scared of Chuck E. Cheese and refused to touch him when he came out for the birthday dance. It was pretty funny, and I got plenty of pictures and videos. Besides that, I didn’t have too much going on this weekend and spent a couple of hours swatching a few polishes. As you may recall, last week KBShimmer announced their rebranding. I think it’s gorgeous and am so happy that the polishes come in boxes now–they have such a luxe feel to them. I was able to pick out a few polishes from the core collection to share with you since they are now all rebranded in the new bottles. The shade I have for you today is KBShimmer Fig-Get About it. Let me show you some swatches below. Continue reading “KBShimmer Fig-Get About It”
