Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Reformulated – Swatches & Review

Hey there 2018 readers! Wow, yeah, it’s 2018 and I’m still chugging along. Today I have a bunch of swatches to share with you of the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Reformulated polishes. I was super excited to get these because I have always been a huge fan of the line, but I was definitely not excited when they arrived like this:

Only two of the bottles broke but it was a huge mess. Half a bottle of acetone an a lot of cotton squares later, I think I managed to clean them up pretty well, don’t you think?

The other day I was uploading these pictures to get the post ready, and I noticed that I had this notification from WordPress last month:

Holy shit…6 years, really??? Sometimes I feel sad about how much I have neglected this blog and how much my readership has gone down due to my lack of consistent posting. I just want to thank you for sticking with me all these years and for still stopping by when I do post. I want to say that I am going to try harder to be more consistent, but my health has been a huge issue and sometimes it’s just hard to put so much work into this when I feel so crappy. One thing I do want to start doing is focusing more time to stamping and just nail art in general. Let’s hope that 2018 allows me the time and focus to do so! Let’s get to some swatches now.

As a nail polish afficionado, Sally Hansen has always been a staple in my drugstore favorites and I’ve always been partial to the Insta-Dri line because I have always loved the big tapered and wide brush. This line has been reformulated recently which is why you might have seen the older bottles and formula on clearance in many places. So what are the deets on this reformulation? Let’s hear it from Sally Hansen:

New and improved Insta-Dri® 3-in-1 formula provides 33% longer wear and chip resistance versus old formula.

As the #1 quick-dry polish in North America, Insta-Dri® is formulated with a base and top coat for extended wear and full-coverage, streak-free shine. Dries in 60 seconds and requires just a single step so you can take that nail look to-go anytime, anywhere.

Available in a bright, vibrant range of 48 shades

I don’t know about you, but I rarely apply just one coat of polish. Some of these Insta-Dri shades could definitely be one coaters, but I am a creature of habit and always apply two coats no matter what. I also wanted to mention that the shape of my nails is a little off in these pictures because the corners are filed at an angle due to the fact that I was trying to grow out the oval nails I impulsively shaped. I always think that I will love an oval or almond shape to my nails and once I file them, I immediately regret it. I will never learn! Overall, I did not see a huge different in formula but I did notice that the wear time was insane. I’ve had Watermelon Wizz on my nails for a whole week and I barely have any tip wear which is a miracle considering how hard I am on my nails. I also wanted to mention that my favorite cosmetic change is that the bottle cap is the same color as the polish which makes it soooooo easy to find the color you want when you have a few thousand bottles in melmers. So what do you think about the new and improved Sally Hansen Insta-Dri line? Have you picked up any of these pretties? They range in price so I always tend to look for specials when I pick them up in store.  Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talking to you soon!

  1. I hate oval nails. It’s so last century!
A blogger I used to follow had beautiful fingers and square short nails, it was really great, it suited her perfectly. One day she decided to have them almond-shaped; it was hard to recognise her hands after that. The personality had gone! I hated it. Eventually I stopped following her.
Mine are squareoval, that’s what suits my hands. Not changing it, ever.

    1. I totally understand. I think nail shape can be super personal. I think mine look best square and short. I admire long nails but they just look hideous on me and I can’t function with them getting in the way. My nails also curve in a lot once they start to grow so I hate how that looks.

      1. Mine used to curve too; one day I found out that it was my thyroid playing up. Once I was on medication, they became normal again. But I like them very short anyway, or they get in the way in everything I do. 🙂

        1. Wow, that’s so interesting! I’m glad they figured that out for you. I know that my thyroid is ok so maybe that’s just how my nails are. Actually, only two of hem get super wonky but it’s enough to drive me nuts. I’ve heard people swear by Tonic Nail Sauce and how that has helped lessen the C curve or the wonky curving. Ive been using it, although not religiously, and it’s a great cuticle cream but not sure I believe it will help with the curving.

    1. The white wasn’t too bad. The first coat was streaky but it evened out nicely with the second coat. I did apply a thicker second coat to be on the safe side.

  2. I love Sally Hansen too! Shame about the breakage but great clean up and done very pretty colour and your nails look great 🙂

  3. I have longer round nails and love them. I made the switch four years ago and never looked back. Great swatches!

    1. They look so good on you. I have the patience of a goldfish so I can’t even imagine having to file and shape them often. Do you spend much time maintaining the shape?

  4. Hey girl! Nice to see you posting again.
I love these and will be looking for the wine and navy colors, very pretty.

  5. These are all gorgeous on you. I have Thyme Is Money and really like it. Now I want Va Va Violet because it is sooo pretty on you.

  6. I am apalled that anyone with any common sense would pack and ship polish like that. It looks like the bright folks at Ulta sent that one. I ordered from them twice and that is how my box looked too. Never again. Your post says press sample so I am really shocked that the brainiacs at Sally Hansen would pack and ship like that. WTF?!!! You did an amazing job with the cleanup Cynthia!

    1. Omg, right?! I was shocked when I got it. I actually got a similar box from Sephora a while back when I bought about 10 bottles of polish. It was a complete mess. I don’t understand how anyone could pack stuff like that–let alone glass bottles of polish! I hope that Ulta at least fixed it for you.
