Hey ladies…and gents? I wonder if any guys read my blog. If they do, they’ve never commented but considering the amount of men that are into wearing nail polish, it wouldn’t surprise me. Sweet baby Jesus it was hard to wake up this morning. Not only is it Monday, but I also couldn’t fall asleep last night so I ended up going to bed after 10:00 pm which means that waking up at 3:30 am would be horrific. I actually didn’t have that hard of a time getting out of bed because I had the most horrid dream ever. I was dreaming that one of my best friends and I were taking a trip to Russia. We were on the plane and she decided we should fly in first class so we upgraded and moved to the front of the plane. The weird part was that there was no real cockpit door, we could see into the cockpit and therefore look out their window. Well, we were going down the runway gaining speed so we could take off. All of a sudden, another plane was taxing right in front of us and crossing our path. In my dream I felt this loud boom and a lot of heat. I felt like I was thrown up in the air and everything went black and I could hear people screaming. I felt like I was floating and then I things started to come back into focus and I was suddenly outside falling onto runway in the snow. Apparently we were making a layover in some Eastern European country in the middle of winter. Considering I used to work for 2 major airlines, I was never afraid of flying. In fact, being on the airplane was one of the favorite parts of my job (didn’t hurt that I always got to travel in first/business!) but, it’s like now I have this irrational fear of flying. The last time I was on an airplane, it was for a work trip and I had to like load up with a few drinks to even make it on the plane. I’m such a spaz. It was a really bad dream, and I was so grateful to wake up. However, I felt terribly uneasy about my dream all day. I haven’t started back up on my Prozac yet, but these are the kinds of dreams I have when I’m on my meds…EVERY SINGLE DAY. Eeeek…I hate that.

Anyway, now that I’ve told you about my terrible dreams, I am going to share with you the Nicole by OPI Tink Collection which is a new and limited edition collection inspired by Disney’s Tinker Bell.

After swatching this collection, I’ve got to say that the formula on all four polishes is fantastic. I had zero issues with application and they all covered very well with two regular coats of polish. All of my swatches are two coats of polish plus a coat of Seche Vite. While these colors aren’t exactly groundbreaking, they are nice staple colors that are worth picking up if you don’t have them. My favorite color is Sweet On Pete because I don’t have a dupe for this in my collection as far as I can tell. It’s one of those weird and pretty/ugly colors that kind of draw me in.  I also wanted to mention that I am missing two of the polishes: Pixie Glitter and How Fairy Nice Of You!

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’re having a nice Monday. Let me know if you’re a fan of Tinker Bell and/or all things Disney.  I’ll leave you with a picture of my gluttony….ceviche and a giant Tecate. I feel kind of ghetto with that giant beer but it was in my fridge and Guinness doesn’t really go with ceviche tostadas. Ha!

Heeeeey! It’s Thursday! Are you excited? I would be if I had a normal Monday-Friday job but I’ll be excited for you, ok? Well, I just got home from an interview. It was with an agency so I wasn’t expecting much because you know how most temp agencies operate. To be honest, this place did seem different but I was impressed because the recruiter was running late and made me wait 30 minutes while she finished up another interview. Then when she got me in there, I realized she had given me the wrong information for the job she was calling me about. She told me the company was located in one city but it ended up being another city that is a bit further away. I am kind of irritated at this point and the interview–if you can call it that–was just kind of lame. I’m not sure if I really want to work with them further, but I’m going to give them a chance because the company she wants to send my resume to sounds interesting and kind of promising. We shall see. I have another interview tomorrow (not an agency!) which I’m looking forward to. At least things are moving, right? And to cap off the day, I have lots of glitter babies to brighten my evening with their shiny and sparkly goodness. Let’s look at my third and final installment of Shimmer Polish swatches!

OPI Neon Revolution Minis

Press Sample

Although it’s not officially Summer yet, there have been quite a few hot days here in Southern California which put me in a horrible state of mind since I hate the heat so much and I hate June with all my heart. While the weather may still be acting wonky, one thing that I definitely like about this time of year is all the awesome collections that come out. I love bright and juicy colors so I was all excited about this OPI Neon Revolution Minis set. This time around, I ended up following the recommendation to use a white base to really make the colors pop and to have an opaque finish with 2-3 coats rather than with 5-6…or 10,000.

a

This set contains a white base, 4 neon polishes and a bottle of top coat. Let’s take a look at the colors…

1

2

3

Don’t Say It–Yellow It!—be still my yellow beating loving heart! This is a great yellow polish that would probably never look like this if you wore it on it’s own. I applied 3 coats here, and I like the coverage.

4

5

6

The Time Is Pow! is a great neon orange–formula-wise, it needed 3 coats for the coverage you see here.

7

8

9

I wasn’t expecting to like Pink Outside The Box as much as I do. In fact, this one ended up being my favorite polish in the set and it’s the most pigmented of them all. I only had to apply two coats here.

10

11

12

I am pretty sure everyone knows how much I like blues, so I was excited about Blue It Out Of Proportion. However, it was so streaky that I was super disappointed. I applied 4 coats here and it still looks streaky. Womp womp…they can’t all be winners.

Sorry about my clean up on these swatches. I ended up going a little acetone crazy with my clean up brush and ended up screwing up the edges by my cuticles. I didn’t even notice this until I  uploaded all my pictures–ugh! Anyway, I  liked this little set because it lets you try a bunch of colors without committing to a bunch of full sized polishes. While I’m not exactly a neon polish lover, these are nice and bright colors. This limited edition Neon Revolution mini set will be available beginning July 2013 at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $19.95 ($24.95 CAN) suggested retail for each mini pack (includes all six products).

Let me know what you think of these colors. Are you a neon lover? Thanks for stopping by today!

Ruby Wing Summer Festival Paint Collection 2013

So, I had planned on waking up early so I could get some laundry done but I ended up NOT doing that and just being a lazy bum all morning while I watched a bunch of episodes of Doctor Who. I may be super new to the Doctor Who fan club but man this show is addictive. I’ve been humming that doooo weeeeeeeeee oooooooooo sound from the intro all morning.

I am totally feeling some Doctor Who nails coming on. Now that you think I’m a total weirdo, let’s talk polish again. Today I have two polishes from the Ruby Wing Summer Festival Paint Collection from 2013. This is not my first experience with solar color changing polish as some of you may remember my BBM (Blue Balls Manicure) which you can see here. I am glad to report that the formula for these Ruby Wing polishes is pretty great. I applied 1 thin coat and a second thicker coat for full coverage for both of these polishes. I am sorry for the really horrid pictures of the polishes out in the sun: I don’t know why my camera decided to take 5 dumps on me any time I tried to take pictures in direct sunlight. The polish top coat looks kind of streaky even though it wasn’t at all. Ugh…so frustrating! Believe it or not, those were the best pictures I ended up with so I just had to suck it up and use them.

Overall, I think these are super fun colors and I think they are worth picking up if you like the whole idea of color changing polishes. As I mentioned before, the formula on these polishes is pretty great as well. There are a total of 6 polishes in the Summer Festival Collection, and I think I am going to have to pick up Eternal because it is the most amazing turquoise changing to grey polish!!! I’m in love with it! My greasy looking hands are really bugging me in these pictures today!! I need to find a better way to moisturize before taking swatch pictures that don’t make me look like I dipped my hands in a tub of lard. I guess I’d rather have over-moisturized hands than crusty, ragged or flaking cuticles. Amirite? No one needs to see that!

Color Club Kaleidoscope Collection For Summer 2013

Press Sample

Happy Thursday, everyone! Normally I’d be super excited that the weekend is almost here but weekends don’t mean much to me since I have to work. And to add insult to injury, I get the privilege of working on Memorial day. Woopdee-doo! Today I had a pretty normal (meaning not horrible) day at work mostly because I was carrying on a scandalous email exchange with a few ladies. I swear to God that the universe will implode if and when we all get to hang out together! After work, I went to look for the missing polishes from the Kaleidoscope collection. I received Evolution and Pearl-Spective for review from Color Club but since I’m so anal, I had to try to hunt down the other 4 polishes. Sadly, I am missing one from the collection and none of the 3 places I went to had it. So, I have 5 of the 6 polishes to share with you today from the Color Club Kaleidoscope Collection for Summer 2013.

1

2

3

Ok, so Endless is kind of a boring color for a Summer collection, don’t you think? Don’t get me wrong, I love pink but this color does not make me think of hot Summer beach days one bit. This baby pink also has a streak-a-riffic formula. It was so streaky and patchy that I had to apply 3 thick coats and the end result still wasn’t smooth despite a thick coat of Seche Vite at the end. The color is pretty and delicate, but the formula leaves a lot to be desired.

4

5

6

I felt like I had the sky on my nails when I wore Evolution. It’s such a beautiful sky blue–just right up my alley! I tried to apply this polish yesterday while I was still half blind from having my eyes dilated so the end result was kind of atrocious. The formula seemed really terrible and streaky so I added a couple of drops of thinner today to see if that would help it and it certainly did. While it was still a little thin, I only had to apply 2 coats here and it leveled out rather nicely.

7

8

9

Another gorgeous and pigmented blue to add to all the blues that have come out this year: Bright Night. Ok, I may be a tard, but I actually bought this like a month or two ago and ended up sending it to my friend Lesley–I didn’t even know that it was from an upcoming collection. hahahahaha! Anyway, this blue is very pretty and doesn’t stain at all which is a miracle considering how pigmented it is. It dries to a satin finish but I ended up applying a coat of Seche Vite since I like my manis shiny. The formula appears to be a little thin at first, but it covers well with two medium coats.

10

11

12

Here we have Bright Night with a coat of Pearl-Spective which is one of those flaky glitter polishes that flash all sorts of colors depending on the angle. I mostly see a pink/magenta/purple shift which is really pretty, but I unfortunately was not able to capture it too well here in my pictures.

13

14

15

And here we have my favorite color from this collection: Abyss. Ahhhh….it’s so pretty and aquatic! The formula on this is pretty darn pigmented so I only needed 2 thickish coats. However, something weird happened when I top coated it with Seche Vite: it got all streaky and wrinkled so I had to top coat it with something else and that agreed more with this polish. This is the second time I get some weird Seche Vite reaction so I’m pretty lost as to why this would happen with just one polish from the bunch. Oh well!

16

17

18

To finish up my swatches, here is Abyss with a coat of Pearl-Spective. Pretty, eh?

I mentioned that I am missing one polish from this collection which is In Theory: an orange/coral shade that I would have liked to try out. Sometimes, it’s just not meant to be so I will shed a tear for this elusive shade. One day we may meet, my pretty–one day! Overall, these colors are nice but they definitely don’t scream summer to me. Those two pastel colors seemed sorely out of place in a Summer collection. As you already know, I’m in love with Abyss and Pearl-Spective is a fun way to spruce up a mani.

So, if you’re in ‘Merica, do you have any plans for Memorial Day weekend? Normally I do have plans but not this year since I’m forced to work. Oh well. At least I have a job, right? Thanks so much for stopping by today and let me know what you think of this collection. Talk to you later.

Shimmer Polish Part 2

Hi friends! I think I had mentioned earlier in the week (or was it last week??) that I had gone in for an eye exam, and I was told that there could be an issue with my optic nerve so I had to make an appointment to get my eyes dilated so they could get a better look. Well, I dragged my friend with me so she could drive me since my vision would be impaired for a few hours after dilation. So it turns out that everything is just fine and that I may just have a larger optic nerve. They did recommend that I continue to have regular eye exams just in case anything changes, but I won’t need any follow up treatment. I was concerned about it because, as a person without health insurance, there is no way that I would be able to afford any further tests or treatments. I am always so disappointed with the state of health insurance here in the USA because we just don’t have the level of care that we need. Personally, I would not be able to purchase an individual plan for myself because of my medical/mental history–I’d be rejected so fast that my head would spin. That means that the only way I can currently get health insurance is through an employer policy and my shitastic job does not have those benefits. So here I am–without any health insurance for the first time in my life and it’s not a good feeling. Even when I did have insurance, I found out how horrid my coverage was after several hospitalizations. Anyway, who knows what’s going to happen when more things go into effect next year with the whole Obamacare thing–I just hope that we do get some kind of affordable plans because everyone deserves proper medical care!

I’ll get off my soapbox now and talk a little polish with you now. Today I am sharing another round of beautiful glitter polishes from Shimmer Polish. This time I decided to use colors from the Jessica Cosmetics Gelato Mio! Collection from Summer 2012. Let me tell you that I love that collection like I love cake–meaning a lot. They were the perfect base colors to show off these other 4 polishes. You can see my Part 1 review of Shimmer Polish beauties here. Anywho, this time I also decided to share a macro shot of the actual polishes so you can see what they look like in the bottle. Are you ready for a new glitter explosion feast for your nails AND eyes?

So what do you think about round 2 of Shimmer Polish swatches? Do you see any that you like? I am pretty obsessed with Jasmin and how it looks over Surfer Boyz’n Berry. As I stated in my previous review, all of these glitter polishes have a great formula that applies smoothly. The only one that was slightly testy was Vivian–it went on a little thick so I applied a little more than I initially wanted to. The combination also looks a lot like Valerie with Sation Heather from my previous Shimmer Polish post. Guess I really like that combination!

Let me ask you something: do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert? Personally, I think that I am rather outgoing and talkative but it seems that when people first meet me, they think the complete opposite. They think I’m quiet and maybe a little mean. Me?! Mean?!?!?!?! Ok, maybe I am a little blunt at times which can be misconstrued as maybe being mean? Then once people get to know me, they always say: “I thought you were totally different when I first met you!” In fact, one of my best friends told me that he thought I was a total bitch when he first met me. Sixteen years later we are still great friends and it was his birthday yesterday so happy birthday again, Daniel! You’re old!

Anyway, the reason why I was thinking about this is because we had to take a personality test at work and I just found it completely bogus. If you’ve ever taken one of those tests, you probably know what I’m talking about. In fact, I can liken it to getting your palm read because they throw out so much information that can pretty much apply to anyone in a weird roundabout way. Anyway, enough about dumb work stuff and on to the polish adoration!

Today I have the Nicole by OPI Gumdrops Collection. Hey, now….don’t groan about yet another sugared texture collection!  I haven’t quite had my fill of these textured confectioned polishes especially when they are super glittery and chunky. Since the formula on all of the polishes in this collection is the same, I’ll talk about it here: the formula on all of them is pretty great. I found them very easy to apply because the formula was very pigmented and dried super fast. I applied two coats for all my swatches and that gave me great coverage. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?

Overall, I liked this collection. I think that I was super excited about the chunky glitter in Candy Is Dandy and I Lilac Gumdrops, but the rest were the fine glittered texture. I feel that the colors in this collection are similar to a lot of other sugared/textured polishes that we have seen this year, but if you haven’t picked any of those up, I think these are a good option.

This limited edition collection will be available beginning May 2013 for $7.99 each at retailers including select Walmart (May 2013), CVS (June 2013), Rite Aid, Kmart, Kroger, Ulta, H-E-B, and Duane Reade locations (August 2013), In Canada, these shades wil be available for $10.99 each at Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart Canada (July 2013), Jean Coutu, Loblaw, and London Drug (August 2013).

So what do you think? Yay or nay? Have you had your fill of textured polishes yet? Thank so much for stopping by and I will talk to you soon!

Guess what? I am a total mess because I just finished watching the series finale of The Office. I nearly had a heart attack when Michael showed up an uttered his signature line, “That’s what she said.” I seriously lost it at that point because he uttered it with so much emotion that I felt it touch me. Isn’t it funny how a television show can become a part of your life to the point where you feel like you almost know the characters and you look forward to catching up with them every week? Ok, I don’t want to sound like a total weirdo, but I know there are tons of The Office fans out there so you know how I feel. I felt this was a perfect way to end the show–I’m just say it’s the end of it. (I know Lesley and Amanda are shedding a tear with me right now!) So anyway, as I watched the last episode of The Office I had a bunch of polish out trying to decide what to swatch next so I decided to try some new pretties from Shimmer Polish. Those of you who have known me since the beginning of my blogging days–as if it were that long–know that I was a serious glitter hater. I used to cringe at the idea of wearing glitter polishes and a few people always teased me for it. (I’m looking at you, Nicole!) Then one day, it’s like something in my brain just clicked and I saw the error of my ways. All of a sudden, the more glittery and shiny something was, the more I loved it. Yes, ladies, I am reformed glitter hater.

I had seen so many lovely swatches of Shimmer Polishes all over the place so I am super excited to be sharing these with you today. I don’t normally like to wear glitterbombs on their own so I decided to layer these over a colored base. The formula on all of these polishes can be summed up in one word: delicious.  The glitter applies very smoothly and is plentiful; one coat gives you beautiful coverage over a colored base. If you want to wear these sparklers on their own, I do recommend applying one thin coat and then dabbing on a second coat to get even and full coverage. Let me show you these sparkling gems before I talk your ear off.

Aren’t these gorgeous combinations? It pained me to remove them as I moved from swatch to swatch because they were all just so glittery and decadent. What is your preferred method for wearing glitterbombs? Do you layer them on top of colored bases like I did or do you just jump in full force and wear them alone? Do you have a favorite Shimmer Polish? Let me know!

OPI Couture de Minnie Collection 2013

Happy Wednesday, everyone! This is my favorite weekday since I get to sleep in and be lazy (yay to no work on Wednesday but boo to working one day on the weekend). I always tell myself that I should wake up early so I can get a lot of stuff done, but I never do. I ended up waking up around 8 and just vegged out for a while. I also went to get an eye exam because I hadn’t gotten one in over two years and I was a little worried just because my eyes have always been really finicky. Well, now I have to get my eyes dilated because a nerve looks a little “bigger” whatever that means so I’ll probably get that done next week. Other than that, they said everything looks fine and I got fitted for some contact lenses. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 15 and then started wearing contacts at 20. Then when I got Bell’s Palsy, my eyes got even more finicky so I decided to just go back to glasses until now. I almost feel like glasses are part of my personality now, but they can be so annoying at times so I’m looking forward to the convenience of contacts. Well, now that I have complained about my bad eyesight, I have some fun swatches to share with you today. Are you ready to hear what I think about the OPI Couture de Minnie Collection?

The whole time I was using Innie Minnie Mightie Bow, I had a craving for Hot Tamales. Maybe it’s because this polish is so fiery! The formula on this polish is pretty fantastic and I could have gotten away with one thick coat, but I applied 2 thin coats here. This kind of color is one that I consider a staple because of the rich red hue, but the shimmer in this really makes it even more beautiful.

4

5

6

A Definite Moust-Have was really hard to photograph because it was acting like a neon. It’s definitely one of those pink leaning coral shades that have been so popular and that I can’t get enough of. The shimmer in this polish is very prominent and I love how my nails glowed in the sunlight. The formula was ok as it did feel a bit streaky in a strange way: the color was fine but it didn’t feel like it leveled out very well. The second coat helped with that so I do recommend thin coats. Once I applied my top coat, everything was peachy keen.

7

9

8

I was super excited about Minnie Style because I love the color combination of the glitter. It was easy to apply, but I do recommend some dabbing just because the glitter can be dragged off your nails.

10

11

12

Chic From Ears to Tail was a bit of my problem child when it came to application. It was very streaky in the beginning so I had to apply 3 coats. This color kind of reminds me of Pink Friday but with some pretty shimmer thrown in.  Unfortunately, the shimmer is very hard to capture and it doesn’t show up very well on your nails unless the light hits them a certain way.

13

14

15

And just for fun, here is Minnie Style over Chic From Ears to Tail. Cute, huh?

And last but not least, here is Magazine Cover Mouse. As you may know, I am a huge Liquid Sand fan so I’m really happy to see this new addition to the line. All of the Liquid Sand polishes that I have ever used have been a breeze to apply and dry lighting fast so this one was no different.  At first, this one reminded me a bit of Jinx, but obviously it’s not orange but the shimmer and shine is pretty similar.

So what do you think about this small but sweet collection? Are you a Minnie Mouse fan? Do you have a favorite from this collection that you’ll be getting? Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

I have an announcement…

This is a party favor from one of my best friend’s sister’s bachelorette party. Isn’t it cute? It was actually a napkin ring holder and she saved me one even though I wasn’t able to make it. Anyway, my announcement is that I broke a nail. What did you think it was?

Since my nails are actually getting disgustingly long (at least for me), I knew it was a matter of time before I broke one or all.

You can kind of see the break at the corner. That’s usually the way my nails start breaking and then it’s just a matter of time before something get’s caught on it and I rip the free edge right off which involved lots of blood and a lot of cursing. So I decided to finally purchase an Orly Nail Rescue Kit.

You basically just brush on some nail glue and quickly dip your finger into the nail repair powder before the glue starts to dry.

I allowed the powder to set for a few minutes. You don’t have to cover your whole nail with glue and powder, but I decided to just in case. Once it’s dry, you want to dust off the excess powder and then you lightly buff it smooth.

This is what my nail looks like at the end. Even though it looks a little grainy, it actually feels very smooth. I am not sure how well this is going to hold up, but I want to file down my nails to a more acceptable length because they are driving me nuts at this point. I am just a hop, skip and a jump away from what Nicole and I call “melted spoon” nails. I’m sure you’ve seen those monstrosities where people let their nails grow so long that they start to get warped and all deformed and disgusting. Anyway, I fear that as much as I fear birds. I’ll be sure to let you know how it works out. I really hope it holds up because I really don’t want to nub my nails again.

I wanted to just say that I’m sorry I haven’t been as active on here or on twitter/facebook lately. I feel bad that I haven’t responded to comments (even though I have read every single one!). I’ve been having a hard time lately, and I’ve just been laying low because I don’t want to be a complete downer. Thanks so much for continuing to visit–it means a lot to me.
