Hey, it’s Friday! Duh. I didn’t really need to tell you that, but I am Captain Obvious today. Since I had been going through some rough times in my personal life, I felt like I wasn’t really putting my usual effort into blogging. I am not a person who likes to do things half-assed, so I really appreciated all the encouraging comments/emails that I received. I was holding on to an extra set of OPI Sheer Tints that OPI accidentally sent to me because I wanted to do a giveaway, but life stuff got in the way. Instead of holding on to them longer, I decided to do the giveaway now since things are looking up for me and I’m feeling positive about a lot of things again. Happy Monday? Uhm, yeah…not so much. I’m kind of hating life right now because of daylight saving time and the whole missing an hour of sleep thing. Yeah, 1 hour is a big deal especially when you have to be at work at 5 am. It’s going to take me at least a week to get used to this so I’m probably going to be a grouchster until then. In the meantime, I have a new product to share with you: the OPI Sheer Tints. When I first saw the press release, I had no idea what these were. I googled some similar products and I sort of got an idea of what you might be able to do with a sheer tinted top coat such as these, but I still wanted to try them out on their own to start with.
I am not too impressed with these when worn on their own. They are very sheer so I applied 3 coats to achieve the above results. The consistency of these top coats is also a little difficult to work with–they feel very jelly-esque and tend to dry really quickly so they were very easy to overwork. I started out applying thick coats but thin coats worked a lot better.
This isn’t the most creative use of the OPI Sheer Tints, but I like how this looks. I applied one coat of these tinted top coats over a white base and also used them to do a dot design. If you want to see some cool ideas, check out what Nory from Fierce Makeup and Nails did with them so go check out her post here. The gradient that she did is really fun!

You know when you’re having a shitty week and then you’re looking forward to one thing and it kind of doesn’t happen and then the crushing disappointment is so bitter that you just want to crawl under a rock? Yep, that happened to me yesterday. It’s going to sound silly, but all I had been wanting all week was to get my hands on the China Glaze Sea Goddess Collection so when that didn’t happen on Saturday, I was so incredibly disappointed. It wasn’t so much about the polish but about one more disappointing thing happening this week. So today I woke up early because I needed to run some errands and wash poor Basil because he was so gross and dirty. Yesterday I didn’t recognize my own car because it was so dingy so I definitely needed to go to the car wash. After that, I decided to go to a few dusties that I haven’t visited in a long time. At first I thought that I was just looking for the Sea Goddess Collection, but I ended up just scoping out all their old polish. I don’t think that you will truly understand what happened when I stumbled upon these two…
Yep, this is OPI Ink Suede and China Glaze BFF. I must have squealed like a tween at a Justin Bieber concert because one of the owners came over to see what the problem was and asked me if I was ok. Of course I turned around and this happened:
I grabbed them and ran out of the store like I had just found the holy grail. I was so excited that I was literally shaking. Is this normal? I think other polish freaks will say yes, but most normal people would probably say there is something seriously wrong with me. Oh well…who cares. I got my polish. So let’s take a look at my swatches of China Glaze BFF and see if it was worth all my spazing.
Ok, this is not the color I was expecting. I thought BFF was supposed to be a deeper hotter pink….right? Thanks to google, I learned that it appears that there were 2 formulas: one that was hot pink/purple, which is the one I wanted, and this one which appears more pink/brown/salmon. To be honest, I think this one is really beautiful as well so I’m not going to get all bummed about it. If anything, the high of seeing that label is going to keep me pumped for at least another day. hahaha! As my pictures show, the polish can look a little different depending on the lighting but that holo effect is really strong. It’s not very sunny here today so I couldn’t take any pictures in direct sunlight, but I bet it’s going to be awesome! The formula is a little tricky because it’s super easy to create bald spots if you’re not careful. Initially I tried to apply it over a ridge filling basecoat because I have some nasty ridges going on, but it applied really poorly. Once I applied it on my bare nails, it was much easier to work with.

Let me complain just a little bit right now: It is so dang hot today!!! It should not be 88 degrees in the freaking middle of Winter. You have no idea how irritated I am about this because I feel like I can deal and accept summer temperatures during the Summer, but not during the months when I’m supposed to be enjoying cooler temps. I know California weather is not typical and that we don’t really have Winters, but how is this even normal? Ok, I’m going to stop. As if you couldn’t tell already, hot weather makes me grumpy. I’m feeling completely down and dejected lately because of my car issues. I went to a dealership yesterday and to say that the experience was horrid is an understatement. They tried to get me into a used car for $3,000 down and $400 a month for 72 months–that means that I would be paying close to $30,000 for a car that is worth $10,00 if that. Sweet Satan’s butthole! Is that ridiculous or what? I mean, I know my credit is NOT good, but do I need to be impaled up the butt with a financial cactus at every turn? So, I walked away from that feeling like the worst loser on the planet, and I’m still carless. I know that in the grand scheme of things, these are very minor problems, but they feel so overwhelming right now. While I figure things out, I will probably be posting less because I don’t want every single post to be a diatribe of self-pity. You guys have been so awesome and encouraging, so I really appreciate it.
So, despite my craptacular issues, I still want to share pretty polishes with you. Today I have another Jindie Nails limited edition polish for Summer 2013. Since I’m currently obsessed with pink, especially hot pink, Jindie Nails Moon Walk is right up my alley.
Jindie Nails Moon walk is a limited edition polish for Summer 2013 so make sure that you pick this one up if you love the hot pink jelly base with an awesome combination of black and silver chunky glitter (dots, and half moons!) The formula is shimmery–almost like a glass fleck type finish. This polish is a little sheer so 2 coats are necessary to get good coverage. I did have some trouble getting the bigger pieces of glitter out of the bottle so the next time that I wear this, I’ll probably fish out the glitter and place it where I want it.
