Stamping Saturdays – Metallic Flowers

Stamping Saturdays – Metallic Flowers

Hey, happy Saturday and welcome to another installment of Stamping Saturdays! This morning I woke up a little early, but I spent my time catching up on TV shows on Hulu.  I am really obsessed with the new show 11.22.1963 which is an original show on Hulu with James Franco. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you have to…NAOW! Last night when I got home, I decided that I’d come up with something for Stamping Saturdays, and I was inspired by Frosso’s rose mani. I started off with this gorgeous base color.

OPI You Sustain Me 1

OPI You Sustain Me 2

I cannot get enough of shades like OPI Infinite Shine You Sustain Me (press sample). Not only do I love this type of color on my nails, but it’s my favorite lip color too. I live for chocolately pink mauve shades which is why I was dying to get my hands on Jeffree Star Adrogyny. Unfortunately, I missed out on it and I’m over it now. Ain’t nobody got time for restock drama.

OPI You Sustain Me 3

OPI You Sustain Me 4

I then used a flowery design from a Cheeky Plate with Essie Nothing Else Metals. I think this turned out really cute!

Well, I hope you are all doing well. Don’t forget to join the link up below to share your stamped manis. You can also join our facebook group here. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

Last night I tried to get ahead of the game and started working on my Stamping Saturdays mani, but it turned out to be a big failure. This morning I decided to finally try out my OPI Color Paints since I was still confused about how to use them. I am happy to report that my mani wasn’t a complete disaster, but I guess I’ll let you be the judge of that.

6The OPI Color Paints is a collection of 8 blendable colors and 1 silver color which is to be used as a base color. For my mani, I used SIlver Canvas, Magenta Muse and Turquoise Aesthetic.

1This is what Silver Canvas looks on its own. It’s a typical brush stroke-prone silver so there’s not much to say about it.

23For this design, I left very little polish on my brush and created a swirl pattern with each color and letting them overlap slightly. I really like the effect I created and the best part is that it was beyond easy.

54And then I stamped this flower design on top of the swirly base since this is for Stamping Saturdays after all.

So what do you think? I’m pretty satisfied with the end result! I hope you are having a nice weekend because I sure am. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.

Stamping Saturdays #59

Stamping Saturdays #59

I fell like it’s been forever and a half since I did one of my Stamping Saturdays post–almost 4 months to be exact! I know I’ve been pretty bad about blogging this whole year actually, but I just have become kind of apathetic about stuff. I want to want to blog again, but I just feel so tired and lethargic most of the time. We are pretty much halfway through the year and I need to get my butt in gear and make myself feel better physically. Yeah…I know I talk about this all the time, but I think that I’ve finally reached the point of no return–I am sick of feeling sick. Let’s see what this moment brings about! Today I wanted to share with you a mani that I did a while back but never got around to posting on my blog. I started off with my favorite Color Club Halo Hues shade of all time: Eternal Beauty.12This is seriously the most gorgeous purple holo that I own. Not only is the formula pure perfection, but it just looks like my purple dreams come true.

3 4I dosn’t normally like to stamp over holo polishes, but I think this ended up looking pretty awesome. I used Mentality Black Opaque to stamp this flower image from CHEEKY plate CH44.

So whaddayathink? I really loved this mani, and I got so many compliments from random people. I honestly don’t think that we will ever get tired of holo polishes, right? Well, I hope that you like this mani as much as me. Don’t forget to check out the other stamped manis from the ladies below. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

Stamping Saturdays #38

Stamping Saturdays #38

Hey guys. I hope the weekend is treating you well. I’ve been pretty lazy today, so excuse the late posting for today’s Stamping Saturdays. I wasn’t feeling too inspired today so I had to dig through my melmers a bit to figure out what polish to use. Well, I found a pretty one that I hadn’t played with in a long time.

Sephora + Pantone Universe Jewel Lacquer 1Sephora + Pantone Universe Jewel Lacquer 2This pretty is the Sephora + Pantone Universe Jewel Lacquer in Parachute Purple. This type of lighting doesn’t show just how amazing this polish is. The formula is pretty nice, but it does tend to dry a little dull. I also noticed that the polish dries super fast so you can overwork it very easily.

Sephora + Pantone Universe Jewel Lacquer 4Sephora + Pantone Universe Jewel Lacquer 3Here I used different lighting to show you the beautiful blue shimmer in the polish. Isn’t it gorgeous?

Cheeky CH 33 1Cheeky CH 33 2Then I went ahead and ruined the polish by stamping this busy pattern over it. I should have used a pattern that doesn’t cover up the gorgeous base. Something about this pattern and how it transferred looks sloppy to me. I don’t like this at all. In case you were wondering, this pattern is from Cheeky plate CH33. I feel like I’ve been producing more fail manis lately than usual. Yeah, I know that I tend to be hard on myself but maybe the issue is that I haven’t felt super inspired lately. Maybe I just need to KISS…Keep It Simple Stupid.

So what are you doing today? I’ve been catching up on Project Runway, Scandal, Hell’s Kitchen and How To Get Away With Murder. To be honest, I was expecting to like HTGAWM much more. I’m pretty meh on it right now which sucks because I LOVE Viola Davis. Maybe it’s going to be one of those shows that takes a while to grow on me. I am planning to watch a bunch of Sons of Anarchy tomorrow. I noticed that there was an article about SoA creator Kurt Sutter so I’ll be reading that soon. Anyway, I hope you’re doing well. Thanks for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.

The Beauty Buffs – Nautical

The Beauty Buffs – Nautical

PressSample

After hiatus, I am back with a new post with my fellow Beauty Buffs! To be honest, I have been feeling kind of blah about blogging lately. It’s not that I’ve stopped loving nail polish, it’s just that it became like a chore for me. Once I took a step back and relaxed my posting schedule, I fell a lot better and I actually started looking forward to posting again. Although my posting has been sporadic at best, I think I am starting to find a happy medium and hope to have a more regular posting schedule starting in August. So are you ready to see what The Beauty Buffs have for you today? Yep, nautical inspired nails! Well, the theme was nautical and/or beachy so I went with Nautical. Let’s take a look.

TBB - Nautical 1I used three polishes from the Salon Perfect Paint The Town Red, White and Blue Collection: Paint The Town Red, Salon Perfect Blue Ribbon, Salon Perfect Sugar Cube. I also used some striping tape to help me create some stripes.

TBB - Nautical 2TBB - Nautical 3At first I was only going to use red and white. Salon Perfect Paint The Town Red is such an awesome red crelly. It reminds me of my favorite red of all time: OPI Vodka & Caviar. It applied flawlessly with two coats. The white, however, was very streaky. I applied 2 thin coats and one thick 3rd coat to get Sugar Cube to look decent.

TBB - Nautical 4TBB - Nautical 5I decided to apply one coat of Blue Ribbon on my pointer finger over the white because I wanted a little more blue in my manicure. I then used striping tape for the lines on my pinky and pointer finger. Since I wanted to make the whole thing even more “nautical,” I stamped the anchors (CH 36) and wheels (CH 49) using my Cheeky plates and voilà!

What do you think of my little nautical interpretation? Don’t forget to check below for all the other nautical/beachy posts from my fellow Beauty Buffs. Thanks for stopping by today!

Color Club Holiday Splendor

For someone who is always saying that holidays suck, I seem to be strangely festive this year. I got my Christmas tree yesterday, and I’ve been wanting to always polish my nails with Christmas colors. Today is not an exception since I decided to wear my favorite green glitter: Color Club Holiday Splendor. Holiday Splendor is the stand out gem from Color Club’s Beyond The Mistletoe Holiday Collection 2011 which was just a complete holo glitterbomb win. Do you want to see what my mani looked like? Well, here we go…

Color Club Holiday Splendor Cheeky CH52

Read below to see what I used for this manicure.

Color Club Holiday Splendor Swatch          Color Club Holiday Splendor Swatch

I don’t know about you, but I think this polish is magical. Because of the tinted base, you only need two coats for full opacity. It does dry a little gritty so a nice top coat is a must if you want a smooth finish.

Color Club Holiday Splendor Swatch

This is just a bonus unfocused and blurry picture that really shows off the amazing holo in this polish. Seriously, how can you not love this??

Color Club Holiday Splendor Cheeky CH52          Color Club Holiday Splendor Cheeky CH52

Since I’ve been on a stamping kick lately, I used Cheeky plate CH 52 and Konad’s special white polish for this design. It almost pained me to cover up Holiday Splendor, but I really love the holo goodness peeking out randomly.

So what do you think about Color Club Holiday Splendor? Did you get any polishes from this collection? Thanks for stopping by and talk to you tomorrow!

31 Inspired Days of Nail Art – Day 24: Nautical Inspired Nails

The closer we get to finishing this challenge, the less “inspired” I feel. After yesterday’s gluttonfest, I haven’t eaten anything besides toast today. I guess I am still kind of full. I still have a nice piece of tri tip so I will probably have some of that for dinner. I’ll just have to come up with some interesting side dishes later. So maybe I’m still feeling blah from eating so much junk and that’s why I lagged on doing my nails for today’s nautical inspired nails challenge. Let’s get to it, shall we?

I started out with China Glaze White Out as my base.

China Glaze White Out Swatch          China Glaze White Out Swatch

I don’t usually paint my nails all white, so it’s really nice to have a nice and opaque white polish to use. This is three very thin coats.

For the nautical part I used a combination of stripping tape and stamping.

Nautical Inspired Nails          Nautical Inspired Nails

I used cheeky plate CH 49 for the wheel design with Adventure Red-y as the stamping polish. It is not a perfect stamping polish so I had to go over the design with a dotting tool and brush when needed which accounts for some of the mess-ups. Still, I don’t think I did too poorly with it.

How is everything with you after your thanksgiving feasting? Did you end up going shopping? I’m happy to report that I have avoided the stores so far and probably will for the rest of the week. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my latest nail disaster. Our next challenge will be inspired by a celebrity…oh boy! Don’t for get to check out Nicole’s nautical nails over at Polish Me, Please! Talk to you soon.

31 Inspired Days of Nail Art – Day 23: Nails Inspired By Nature

I had absolutely no idea what to do for today’s challenge. I mean, nails inspired by nature? I am a city girl through and through and the closest I get to “nature” is the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland. Nicole and I were talking about this challenge yesterday and she mentioned that she thought of not painting her nails at all and showing us her “natural” nails and calling that her interpretation of nature. hahaha! I got so annoyed with today’s challenge that I waited until the last possible second to do them. Unfortunately, my nails ended up looking craptastic for various reasons. First of all, let me show you the polish I used as my base color:

Jessica Brown Sugar Swatch

Jessica Brown Sugar is from their Spicy Dream Fall Collection. It’s a red-based brown with a very distinct shimmer. I don’t really wear these types of browns because I don’t think they look to good on my skin tone, but I do like this polish because it’s just so different!

Then I decided to do some stamping and that is when it all went downhill.

First of all, I should have used a different polish to do the stamping because Essie The Cove Copper does not show up too well. I think this is a pretty old discontinued polish because the label looks different and it definitely smells different as well. I placed some red microbeads where the leaves appeared to have little bead shapes, but it just ended up looking weird. I was so annoyed with this overall mani that I took it off right away.

Now, in order to make up for such an atrocious manicure, I am sharing with you something that I made for our Thanksgiving feast tomorrow….

These are not just your ordinary deviled eggs; they are BACON CHEDDAR deviled eggs. These are so delicious that I defy anyone to have one and not have a foodgasm. They are basically traditional deviled eggs with some crumbled bacon and shredded sharp cheddar blended into the egg yolk/mayo mix. Whenever I make these, they literally disappear instantly. Yes, they are that good. I can’t wait until tomorrow so I can eat some of these babies up.The recipe is pretty standard but I know someone who hasn’t made deviled eggs would want to know. To tell you the truth, I eyeball all of the amounts so this is an approximation.

  • 12 hard-boiled eggs
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 bacon strips- cooked and crumbled
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

After you cook the eggs and peel them, cut them lengthwise and remove the yolks. Place all the yolks in a bowl and mash them up. Add the mayo and mustard until the mixture is creamy and well blended. Then mix in the cheese, crumbled bacon and black pepper. After this, I usually use a pastry bag to pipe the mixture back into the egg whites. If you don’t have a pastry bag, you an always just use a plastic bag and cut off a corner to make a small hole. Lastly, sprinkle the deviled eggs with paprika and bask in the glory of rave reviews that your dish will get.

Can we please just ignore my nails and focus on the food? That would make me happy. Do you have any special Thanksgiving plans for tomorrow?

31 Inspired Days of Nail Art – Day 22: Galaxy Nails

Here we go again: another challenge I was not looking forward to. Last night I tried to recreate some amazing nebula nails that I had seen on Diane’s blog, Turbomagik, but they ended up looking like a hot mess so I had to regroup today and try something else. Well, they didn’t come out the way I imagined them but any time sponging is involved, I tend to find a way to mess it up. I started with Wet N’ Wild Blue Moon as my full nail color:

Wet N Wild Blue Moon Swatch          Wet N Wild Blue Moon Swatch

I love Blue Moon, but it is a little thin as you can tell from a few bald spots. I think that with three coats it would be fine but I stopped at 2 because I was going to sponge over it anyway.

Galaxy Nails          Galaxy Nails

I’m not wild about them, but they’re definitely not the worst thing I’ve ever done. Just take a look at some of my older posts and this will be a Renoir to you. haha! I used a little planet  stamp from Cheeky plate CH 45 but otherwise, I just used polish, a dotting tool and a sponge.

I am not that much of a fan of galaxy nails s0 I probably won’t be in a hurry to try this again any time soon. Before I forget, I have a funny story for you. Well, it’s funny to me anyway. Ever since I started my blog sale, I have been going to the post office a lot. I was there today to drop off a few orders, and I was waiting in line. One of the post office employees is really nice but there are 3 others that are total grumps. He was helping a guy who had to fill out a customs form so I thought he wasn’t going to take me until the guy was done. Then he looks at me and says: “I’m waiting for you.” I walk over to the counter and this was the conversation that ensued:

Me: “Oh, sorry. I didn’t know that you were ready to take someone new.”

Him: “I looked right at you and you just looked away…trying to play hard to get.”

Me: “Yeah, I just wanted someone different because you’re the meanest one here.”

Him: “Oh yeah? Sometimes people like it mean.”

Me: “Oh?”

Him: “Yeah. Some people like it mean. Some people like it rough.”

Me: “Ok…”

If you follow me on twitter, you know that I am in no way a prude, but his comments kind of shocked me especially because the other male customer who was filling out the form was still there and he was snickering and said: “Oh yeah!” hahaha Well, that’s my inappropriate story for the day.

What do you think of my galaxy nails? I’d love to hear what you think. Also, don’t forget to check out Nicole’s galaxy nails over at Polish Me, Please!

31 Inspired Days of Nail Art – Day 3 : Yellow

I apologize in advance for what I am about to show you. I actually think my nails look hideous which sucks because I was really looking forward to using this yellow polish. I’d like to say that I do like the yellow polish on its own, but the stamp just looks…barf-worthy. My third submission for the 31 Inspired Days of Nail Art is a big fat fail. Here we go….

This is Nails Inc. Carnaby Street:

Nails Inc. Carnaby Stree Swatch     Nails Inc. Carnaby Stree Swatch

It’s no secret that I love Nails Inc. because they have the best creme formula on the planet as far as I’m concerned. Unfortunately, Carnaby Street fell prey to the usual trapping of yellow polish: it was patchy and kind of annoying to work with. It took 3 coats for me to be able to cover up all the bald spots which is unheard of in my Nails Inc. experience. I should have left well enough alone, but noooooooooooooooo. I had to stamp over this…

Cheeky Plate CH 48     Cheeky Plate CH 48

I used a design from Cheeky plate CH 48. While the design isn’t ugly, per se, the color combo just looks UGLY. Please join me in hating this final look.

I’m late to posting this because I went nuts and removed this immediately: that’s how much I hated it. I guess I can’t always have a nail win.

Don’t forget to check out the looks created by the other ladies participating in the challenge. I’m sure their submissions will be much more interesting–can’t be as ugly as mine…that’s for sure!

Thanks for stopping by and until next time!
