Color Club Kaleidoscope Collection For Summer 2013

Happy Thursday, everyone! Normally I’d be super excited that the weekend is almost here but weekends don’t mean much to me since I have to work. And to add insult to injury, I get the privilege of working on Memorial day. Woopdee-doo! Today I had a pretty normal (meaning not horrible) day at work mostly because I was carrying on a scandalous email exchange with a few ladies. I swear to God that the universe will implode if and when we all get to hang out together! After work, I went to look for the missing polishes from the Kaleidoscope collection. I received Evolution and Pearl-Spective for review from Color Club but since I’m so anal, I had to try to hunt down the other 4 polishes. Sadly, I am missing one from the collection and none of the 3 places I went to had it. So, I have 5 of the 6 polishes to share with you today from the Color Club Kaleidoscope Collection for Summer 2013.

Ok, so Endless is kind of a boring color for a Summer collection, don’t you think? Don’t get me wrong, I love pink but this color does not make me think of hot Summer beach days one bit. This baby pink also has a streak-a-riffic formula. It was so streaky and patchy that I had to apply 3 thick coats and the end result still wasn’t smooth despite a thick coat of Seche Vite at the end. The color is pretty and delicate, but the formula leaves a lot to be desired.

I felt like I had the sky on my nails when I wore Evolution. It’s such a beautiful sky blue–just right up my alley! I tried to apply this polish yesterday while I was still half blind from having my eyes dilated so the end result was kind of atrocious. The formula seemed really terrible and streaky so I added a couple of drops of thinner today to see if that would help it and it certainly did. While it was still a little thin, I only had to apply 2 coats here and it leveled out rather nicely.

Another gorgeous and pigmented blue to add to all the blues that have come out this year: Bright Night. Ok, I may be a tard, but I actually bought this like a month or two ago and ended up sending it to my friend Lesley–I didn’t even know that it was from an upcoming collection. hahahahaha! Anyway, this blue is very pretty and doesn’t stain at all which is a miracle considering how pigmented it is. It dries to a satin finish but I ended up applying a coat of Seche Vite since I like my manis shiny. The formula appears to be a little thin at first, but it covers well with two medium coats.

Here we have Bright Night with a coat of Pearl-Spective which is one of those flaky glitter polishes that flash all sorts of colors depending on the angle. I mostly see a pink/magenta/purple shift which is really pretty, but I unfortunately was not able to capture it too well here in my pictures.

And here we have my favorite color from this collection: Abyss. Ahhhh….it’s so pretty and aquatic! The formula on this is pretty darn pigmented so I only needed 2 thickish coats. However, something weird happened when I top coated it with Seche Vite: it got all streaky and wrinkled so I had to top coat it with something else and that agreed more with this polish. This is the second time I get some weird Seche Vite reaction so I’m pretty lost as to why this would happen with just one polish from the bunch. Oh well!

To finish up my swatches, here is Abyss with a coat of Pearl-Spective. Pretty, eh?

I mentioned that I am missing one polish from this collection which is In Theory: an orange/coral shade that I would have liked to try out. Sometimes, it’s just not meant to be so I will shed a tear for this elusive shade. One day we may meet, my pretty–one day! Overall, these colors are nice but they definitely don’t scream summer to me. Those two pastel colors seemed sorely out of place in a Summer collection. As you already know, I’m in love with Abyss and Pearl-Spective is a fun way to spruce up a mani.

So, if you’re in ‘Merica, do you have any plans for Memorial Day weekend? Normally I do have plans but not this year since I’m forced to work. Oh well. At least I have a job, right? Thanks so much for stopping by today and let me know what you think of this collection. Talk to you later.

Silly! Your swatches are good. I hate how my camera washes out my skin whenever I photograph a super dark polish. DRIVES ME NUTS.

What base and top coat do you use?

    1. 25 May, 2013 at 11:09 pm

Normally, I use Orly Bonder or CG Strong Adhesion Base Coat. I am pretty loyal to my Seche Vite top coat but I also use Poshe and Gelous.

I think they are fun top coats to have because they can totally change a polish. This one is pretty but I think there are other similar top coats out there.

      LOL–sounds great to me!

Oh good. I’m not crazy. I thought I was the only person who got the weird Seche Vite reactions. I had a whole week where it seemed like everything I swatched, I ended up with at least one wrinkled nail.

I’ll probably not buy Seche again. I find myself grabbing Julep’s Freedom top coat most days.

I’ve been using Seche Vite since I started my blog and I thought it was a miracle product. Suddenly it’s giving me tons of problems which is the strangest thing. I have no idea why it reacts all crazy sometimes but it is definitely happening more often. I may have to find some different topcoats to use while I give SV a rest.

I really like Bright Night and Abyss looks really nice with the Pearl coating on it!

Woot to the scandalous email chain! πŸ˜‰
I love how you had to complete your collection, hahaha.
That is so funny about Bright Night! I was like, “Wait…she sent me hers…wtf?” Anyway, I agree with you 100% on that bad boy. It does dry kinda satin (I’m assuming because it’s so bright), but I also remember being shocked about no staining. It’s IN YO FACE fabulous and hands-down my favorite of the collection. I think my Lady Friday Night mani is one of my favorites from this year. πŸ˜‰
I like Abyss with Pearl-spective over it…it’s something I’d like to wear. Otherwise, the pink and blue are kind “meh” for me. I’m not a big baby pink fan (although I do like this particular baby pink, but I’m hating on the formula) and I like light blue, but there’s nothing jumping out at me about it.
I have no real social plans for this weekend…just chores so far. Leeloo needs a bath to try and help with her skin; I’ll probably hit the gym a couple of times because I have been lazy about that; there’s a small linen closet I want to clean out (I did the larger one last weekend, so this one should be easier); I have to pay some bills; I have to do some laundry…all very exciting! My friends usually congregate on Tuesday nights for dinner, so I am hoping it gets moved to Monday for a BBQ or something. We shall see!

    1. 25 May, 2013 at 10:57 pm

Omg, you have no idea…I felt like such a tard when I realized what I had done with Bright Night. Ok,so it’s gorgeous but it’s so similar to other blues I have which is why I decided not to keep it initially. I had no idea that my nail place had this collection crazy early–so early that I hadn’t even heard of it. LOL Must create another Lady Friday Night mani soon.

So today was just kinda meh. I had no desire to do anything except sit at home after work working on that Minnie mani that just left me completely frustrated and annoyed. Well, regardless of our lack of plans, it still sounds like you have a lot to do. Unfortunately I have to work on Monday so I’m just annoyed. I hope it’s slow. :/

I had to work Memorial Day last year but not this year, w00t! Your day will come πŸ™‚

I’ve noticed in my use of topcoats that Seche doesn’t play well with cremes, so I use it only on glitters which it is great for. For cremes I use CND Quick Dry and it’s more runny and self-leveling. Everyone’s chemistry is so different though so who knows, this might only work for me?

    1. 25 May, 2013 at 10:50 pm

Thank you for the recommendation. I am finding that Seche is not as easy to work with lately. I also use Poshe so I’m going to switch it up a bit. I had also been using a Barielle top coat but omg…it was been creating tons of bubbles on all my polishes. I am going to look into that CND top coat because maybe I just need something new. As much as I love Seche, I think it’s been kind of a pain lately!

Oooh I like the pigmented blue and the aquatic one. I agree- the pink is snoozy but eh… It wouldn’t be too offensive if the formula wasn’t annoying. What you said about the Seche Vite wrinkle thing happened to me on Thursday!! I did my neon gradient for my accent nail w my neon lights camping mani and when I added my Jessica Brilliance (cuz I’m avoiding SV due to zee bebe) it totally wrinkled up like this craggy old b****’s face that was camping with us but then I just waited cuz I was gonna cry if my actually quite decent gradient was f’ed and it miraculously smoothed out as it dried!!! Idk why that happens but man- give me a heart attack why don’t you?! I’m looking at that nail now and I’m really thinking there are NO signs of the wrinkling. Strange. Anyway- these are mostly all pretty! Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

    1. 27 May, 2013 at 8:00 pm

Uhm, you sound kinda rage filled there about that old lady who was camping with you…is she the same one who fell into the river? And by fell into the river, you meant you pushed her into the river, right? Anyway, I am super annoyed with how testy Seche is being lately. I don’t get why it’s acting like that because I haven’t had issues with it in forever and ever. Sadness.

  13. 31 May, 2013 at 1:06 pm

These colors are all so gorgeous, I do love the pink but I totally agree not so much a summer color. Looks more like it belongs in that OPI ballett collection. All are so pretty though that topper is so pretty! Sparkles <3

lmao I have to agree, if we all get together, it’ll be a BOMBING experience, pun intended!!! Plus you’ll also paint my nails, each one of us can paint one nail πŸ˜€ hehe πŸ˜€
