I have an announcement…
This is a party favor from one of my best friend’s sister’s bachelorette party. Isn’t it cute? It was actually a napkin ring holder and she saved me one even though I wasn’t able to make it. Anyway, my announcement is that I broke a nail. What did you think it was?
Since my nails are actually getting disgustingly long (at least for me), I knew it was a matter of time before I broke one or all.
You can kind of see the break at the corner. That’s usually the way my nails start breaking and then it’s just a matter of time before something get’s caught on it and I rip the free edge right off which involved lots of blood and a lot of cursing. So I decided to finally purchase an Orly Nail Rescue Kit.
You basically just brush on some nail glue and quickly dip your finger into the nail repair powder before the glue starts to dry.
I allowed the powder to set for a few minutes. You don’t have to cover your whole nail with glue and powder, but I decided to just in case. Once it’s dry, you want to dust off the excess powder and then you lightly buff it smooth.
This is what my nail looks like at the end. Even though it looks a little grainy, it actually feels very smooth. I am not sure how well this is going to hold up, but I want to file down my nails to a more acceptable length because they are driving me nuts at this point. I am just a hop, skip and a jump away from what Nicole and I call “melted spoon” nails. I’m sure you’ve seen thoseΒ monstrosities where people let their nails grow so long that they start to get warped and all deformed and disgusting. Anyway, I fear that as much as I fear birds. I’ll be sure to let you know how it works out. I really hope it holds up because I really don’t want to nub my nails again.
I wanted to just say that I’m sorry I haven’t been as active on here or on twitter/facebook lately. I feel bad that I haven’t responded to comments (even though I have read every single one!). I’ve been having a hard time lately, and I’ve just been laying low because I don’t want to be a complete downer. Thanks so much for continuing to visit–it means a lot to me.

Let us know how it works for you after a couple of days, if you have any problems with further splitting/breakage, please.
Will do! I am really hoping that it works well because I just hate having to cut all my nails down to nubs when I get a break like this.

I have been working very hard on growing my nails, and if I get a split, I tend to pick at it or cut them all down too, and I don’t want to do that. If this works that would be great!

You tease! lol
I LOVE Orly’s Nail Rescue!!! I use it as an undercoat to support my nails & I don’t get many breaks. (except when I take it off lol)

π I actually was thinking about using this as an undercoat for all my nails now that they are a little longer.
Cynthia recently posted..I Have An Announcement…
I have never tried it but I heard about using tea bags to repair split nails…

this isnt the one I originally saw, but same concept. Let me know how the Orly repair holds up because I always end up breaking my nails!
Amy recently posted..Ahem… Sorry for my absence
I tried the tea bag repair once before but it didn’t work too well for me. I’m sure I just made some mistake along the way as usual. I’ll let you all know how the Orly Rescue works out for me.

Well I’m glad that was just a tease since I haven’t heard about a worthy man in your life and I’d be a little disappointed if THAT was THE ring π I’ve used nail rescue about twice…I usually cut my nails down when they break, but I use it for real bad breaks/splits when its too low and on my nail bed. It lasts like cement, I had to file it all the way down as close to my nail and then soak and scrub off to get it to budge. You can always reapply a thin layer on top of it after a while, but I didn’t like the outcome when I did this because my nail felt way too thick.
I hope your mood turns around soon! I haven’t been all that into socializing lately either…in fact I was working on my blog post until I came here and now I’m going to bed because I don’t care anymore (about the post, not you π )

Haha! That would have been the shock of the century although that is totally something I would do. I think I had heard of this product but I saw it in action on your blog for the first time. I really hope that this works for me because I’m tired of that stupid break always on my pointer fingers.
I hope things turn around soon–I’m miserable right now. I should prolly just go to bed. LOL

Please let us know how this works! I get breaks in that horrid spot all the time and this would be great.
PS I will accept no apologies. Paint your nails a spring-y color and keep on keepin’ on!
WHY do they break there all the time? It’s so horrible because it it continues to tear there, it is so painful! π I have high hopes for this product. You’re so sweet–I will try to go really bright tomorrow. π

“Anyway, I fear that as much as I fear birds.” Oh my gosh, literally laughed out loud on that one! I hate when I break a nail, and then have to cut the rest down (because I’m anal-retentive and can’t stand when they’re not all the same length). I’ll check and see if anyone here carries that orly repair.
I hope you start to feel better soon. Take care of yourself!
I do the exact same thing. Another thing that freaks me out is when people have different lengths to each nail and/or some rounded, some square…WHAT THE??? I want to go and file their nails for them. Thank you–I hope things get better soon. π

dont be down, its this long drawn out winter, thats messsing with everyones spirit. Your nail look lovely, while making diaper cakes for my sisters shower and stressing I broke all my nails and neglected them, I just purchased my first 4 polishes in months La girl 3d and 2 CC halo hues. I enjoy your blog so much and thank you for sharing with us. π We aint going no where !!
I’ve been lusting over those new LA Girls polishes! Sorry to hear that you broke your nails. π I only broke one so far and I’m so mad!! Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. <3
Cynthia recently posted..I Have An Announcement…
What do you use to get the polish so perfect around your cuticles? Your nails look good even with a break, short or long! I’ve tried many nail hardeners, nothing works. I’ve got 2 nails that have the tea bag repair. Both thumbnails bit it so hard that repair was impossible, happened at work which makes it suck even more! π
I try to be as careful as possible with my initial application. If I’m lucky, I don’t need to do any clean up. However, if I do need clean up, I use acetone and a nail brush with a very thin edge. I actually tried the tea bag repair once before and it didn’t really help so I thought I would give this a shot.
Cynthia recently posted..I Have An Announcement…
I hope this works as it looks much easier than nail wraps. I can never get those perfect and pick at the part tucked under the free edge because I can feel it and it drives me crazy. My thumbnails tend to get tears in them at the same point your nail is and I have to baby them until it grows out enough to cut. I hope you’ll do a review of this later.
I’ll definitely update everyone on how this works out for me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen those nail wrap things but they would so drive me nuts from what you have described. My thumbnails never seem to break–it’s almost always my pointer fingers on both hands!
Cynthia recently posted..I Have An Announcement…
Aw, I recently cut all my nails due to thumbnail splits. It’s always a depressing time after working so hard to grow them haha. I look forward to seeing how you get on with it π
It always sucks to have to nub my nails when I get one break so I hope that this works well in saving me from that.
Cynthia recently posted..I Have An Announcement…
Aw, hope your nail will recover! I hate when they break like that.

LOL.. that was a misleading name for this entry
i know what you mean by long nails, theyΒ΄re long for me too.. my nails have the same lenght today and I’m going crazy. I cant type properly!!
mariaemmafaria recently posted..Spun Sugar Nails
Omg!! That is exactly what I was having a major issue with. I couldn’t type correctly so my nails were driving me nuts. I have no idea how people with REALLY long nails function.
Cynthia recently posted..I Have An Announcement…
IDK. but my god typing is difficult.. do you know how many times I have to keep erasing what i wrote on whatsapp or twitter thanks to my nails..
my main concern is how do they wipe their asses with that nails. or clean.. you know, downstair when taking a bath without hurting themselves. #YahooAnswers
mariaemmafaria recently posted..Spun Sugar Nails
This is cool! I didn’t know something like this existed. I may need to look into it. π
I am SO PROUD of you for not nubbing your nails with this break!!!
Pffft! You have no idea how hard I had to suppress my instinct to nub. This is a true breakthrough for me!
Cynthia recently posted..I Have An Announcement…
Whenever I break a nail, I use the teabag & super glue method (one can just use nail glue). Only thing that works for me.
Oh & me + long nails don’t get on either. Mine need a bit of a file again
such a cute favor / napkin ring holder! this stuff looks awesome, would love to see how it holds up, I absolutely despise whent his happens
Didn’t I comment on this post?? Ugh I’m such a space cadet!!! I was about to poop my pants when I saw that ring… I was like whaaattttt??? I mean, we aren’t bffs exactly but I think I’d know if THAT was coming up!! At least I’d know if you had a boyfriend, I THINK! Haha. I recently cut my nail with a knife (stupid, I know) and patched it with a coffee filter cuz it was so far back on my nail bed and it worked well. How did this patching hold up?
