Chanel Taboo

self purchased

Total late night post tonight! Since I don’t work tomorrow, I’m being daring and staying up past 8 pm. Ohhhh….I live a very interesting life, don’t I? I met up with Daniel today so we could sorta celebrate his birthday. For being friends for so long, can you believe that I was totally thinking that he had just turned 34 but he just turned 35! Holy crap…that’s not good. Anyway, now I can really rag on him about being old. After our late lunch/early dinner, I dragged him with me to the mall and I ended buying a few things that I shouldn’t have. I should know better by now, right? Well, here I am showing you one of the lovely new babies I picked up today: Chanel Taboo.

Don’t you dare tell me that this isn’t a gorgeous polish because I just might have to stab you. I have to admit that I have been lusting over this polish since I first started seeing swatches online. Even though I have purchased more expensive polishes (I’m looking at you, Tom Ford!), I had been hesitating getting some Chanel polishes. Well, I am so glad that I did because this polish is pretty spectacular. The formula is crazy pigmented so you can get away with one coat if you apply it carefully. This polish is just beautiful, but I do have a couple of things to mention: the polish dried a little dull on me. I was not super shiny the way I had seen it described elsewhere but a coat of Seche fixed that right up. I also want to share that I was not that impressed with the Chanel brush. It’s so thin! For someone with large and wide nail beds, this is not the best kind of brush. In my opinion, OPI and Dior have the absolute best brushes out there.

So, today Daniel and I went to the infamous Boiling Crab where we gorged ourselves on boiled/seasoned shrimp and crawfish. Yes, this is the messiest meal on the planet, but it’s also soooooo good. I am a serious seafood lover so this is like my dream come true.

Just imagine what our hands looked like after this meal. Think about it real hard. hahaha After our meal, we wandered over to the mall where I proceeded to bore Daniel with the task of helping me pick out some nail polish. Yes, it was technically his birthday dinner and all, but nothing stands in the way of acquiring new polish babies. We played a bit with the NARS Pierre Hardy Duos at Sephora so he ended up picking the Ethno Run Duo for me.  So besides the Chanel splurge, I also got a NARS duo.

My polish weakness is shameful, but I will not let myself be defeated. I was recently mentioning on Twitter that I have once again outgrown my polish storage despite getting rid of close to half my stash earlier in the year. And this is despite me putting a lot of polishes up on my blog sale once I have swatched them.  Ridiculous, right? But I know some of you out there get me. Please tell me that you do!

Overall, I had a great time today: good food, great friend and awesome polishes. Who could ask for more? In case you are wondering, Chanel polishes retail for $27 each–steep, I know. How do you feel about paying so much for a luxury polish? I know we don’t necessarily like it, but how do you justify such purchases? What do you think of Chanel Taboo? Worth the price? Let me know…I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for stopping by today, and I will catch up with you later.

  1. I practically died when you said you would stab someone if they didn’t like this! That is exactly what I would say LOL. This is definitely going on my list of eventually getting! Hopefully sooner than later! This seriously.. .ay dios mio! It’s like a galaxy!

  2. It’s gorgeous, I have to say that. So gorgeous I might start to want it, although I don’t like the brush and I heard many times that Chanel polish chips within hours. I don’t own one myself, so I’d really appreciate if you’ll let me know on this. Pretty important aspect for me.

Myself, I am a Dior polish fanatic, I like the brush, the colors and they are really hard on the nails. I buy them (and in Romania they are really expensive, like 26 Euro/bottle) because they give me pleasure. Not very often, they are “special occasion” events but… I totally understand you.

    1. It is a beautiful color but I’m sad to report that it chipped already. I put it on last night, I took a shower a few hours later and when I woke up, I already had a few chips. Then I noticed that it was basically peeling off. It was so disappointing. I don’t know if it just didn’t like the Seche Vite or what. I also didn’t wear a base coat, so maybe next time I will try a good base coat and a different top coat. I totally agree about Dior, though–best luxury polish and brush. Love them!

      1. Baby, I already bought it.. I went out last night to the mall and I couldn’t resist it. I am wearing it with no base coat but with a gel-like top coat form Rimmel. No chipping yet, but all I did was sleep, so…
But the color is gorgeous and unique, rigt? Worth the splurge, right?? 😀

        1. Yes, totally worth the splurge. I am hoping that I will get a better result the next time I wear it so I will definitely wear a basecoat and a different top coat since I’ve been having problems with Seche Vite.

  3. So gorgeous, urgh! I’m seriously hoping someone out there dupes this ASAP. I REALLY don’t want to shell out the money for the Chanel, but this is so stunning, that I just may have to.

    1. I am sure that we will get some dupes soon enough. I think Jessica makes some good Chanel dupes. I think last year they made some good dupes of the spring trio collection so we will have to see if they dupe this one.

    1. It’s so hard not to want all these pretties but it is hard to spend that much money on one polish. I tend to also stay under $20 with my polish purchases, but I’ve been splurging a little more lately.

    1. Let’s Groove does have a similar look! I think it’s not as complex and deep as Taboo but it’s definitely a favorite of mine.

I can’t wait to try the orange one…I love NARS polishes.

  4. if i spend that much on ONE polish, believe me i would wear every single day until the last drop of it come out of that small bottle.

it reminds me of a sally hansen instadri color though.. let me find it in my house tonight.. i can’t remember its name.

    1. LOL…I wish I could say I’m going to wear the crap out of this but the truth is that I just have way too much polish to do that. It’s terrible, especially when I buy something like this that is way too pricey.

  5. I see what Maria is saying, I think it does look kinda like In A Flurry maybe, although I returned mine cuz it was so thin I was just like nope! I get sick of crappy formula polishes. My biggest pet peeve right now are the glitters w the super thick goopy base that do nothing but make a bubble-tastic mess of your nails. This polish is really pretty and it sounds like for it being Daniel’s bday you’re the one who came home w all the presents! Haha. I like how that worked out! 😉

    1. Hahaha…that’s how things work out with me: not my birthday, but I get all the presents anyway. At least he made a good choice for me on the NARS duo. I can’t wait to try them out.

I had to look up some swatches of In A Flurry and I don’t think it looks similar? That’s like a black polish with silver sparkles? Maybe I got the wrong images. LOL

  6. So for his birthday, you dragged him to the mall to buy designer polish for yourself? You two ARE friends. ;P Also: sounds like something I would do. 😉
I do NOT want to risk getting stabbed by Ghetto Cynthia, so I will not say it is not gorgeous. It is, and I think you did an AMAZING job of capturing all of the colors in it. However, I just don’t feel the need to have it. I’m not really sure why. I actually came across it in a CosBar in Carmel when it first came out, like literally had it in my hand, and didn’t go for it. My friend that I was with couldn’t believe it. Although, today I have become obsessed with Chanel Azure and Bel-Argus, so…I guess maybe that compensates (and then some) for not dying over this one.
Glad that you two had a good day and you got some new luxury polish babies. 🙂 Enjoy your garlic-y aftermath! 🙂

    1. Well, I just can’t understand you…what have you done with my friend??? She would get this one in a heartbeat. 😛 Could it be that you are becoming a little more reasonable and discriminating with your polish purchases? Daniel actually was telling me to get Azure and Bel-Argus but I passed because I really am not that into metallic colors. I just don’t like them as much on me so I decided to pass on those.

And yes, he is used to me taking over his birthday celebrations after all these years. hahaha The garlic-y aftermath is still going strong. :/

      1. I know, right? Teh sad. Ironic, and typical, that now I fall for two Chanels instead, though. I need a haircut, Leeloo needs a haircut, Leeloo needs food, I almost need gas…yet I will find a way to spend $54 on two small bottles of nail polish. I knew they wouldn’t be up your alley, but, I dunno…I just fell hard. :p
I hope your garlic-y cloud (it surrounds you like Pigpen in Peanuts) is disappating.

        1. Isn’t is pathetic how we manage to spend money on stuff like this even though we know that we shouldn’t? And even worse, we try to justify it…haha

Believe it or not, my hands still smell a little garlic-y.

  7. WOW. This is beautiful and I want it. However, I could never make myself buy this at retail. I used to not spend more than 8 per bottle, but then I discovered indies and I was like, 10-15 is fine lol.

I just reorganized my polish stash last night (over 500 now) by brand–before it was by color. I work second shift so I did this from 12-2am haha! I’ve still got room to grow, I like to keep the ones I really love though and get rid of similar ones or those I wore and was not in love with. I need a blog for a blog sale…

    1. I’ve noticed how my price point acceptance has changed a lot over the last few years. When I first started buying a lot of polish, I swore I wouldn’t pay more than $5…then it was $10…then I started seeing all the beautiful indies and mid-range brands so I went up to $15. Then Dior hit so $24 was THAT bad, right? Then Tom Ford happened and I somehow justified $30….eeek! When will it end???

I am afraid of re-organizing my stash. The last time I really sat down to count and organize, I was at like 1,300 polishes. Then I had a huge blog sale and I”m sure I got rid of at least 500 bottles….and now I’m pretty sure that I am back to or super close to my original stash in just 5 months. I am starting to think this is seriously out of control. LOL

  8. Oh last thought: The colors remind me of Orly Fowl play if anyone wants to try and squash this lemming 🙂

    1. Orly Fowl Play has some of the same qualities as this polish in that it’s a darker base with a few different colors. Fowl Play has flakes, though….and Taboo has a very fine shimmer. I wouldn’t really consider them dupes but they are both pretty. 🙂

  9. Well….I guess you like it 🙁 lol I don’t own any super high end polishes. The most expensive ones I own are two RBL and one DL (thanks to amanda!) This is the only Chanel I’ve really actually wanted, but the $27 is just too much for me to justify buying. Maybe if I didn’t already have 500+ polishes I’d splurge, but I guess I chose quantity over quality some time ago 😛 Errrr….I really want this though lol. Maybe if I ever put my blog sale together I’ll use the proceeds toward this.

    1. I think that ever since I bought that Tom Ford polish for $30, I try to justify any other polish that’s under $30 as ok…uhm, yeah right. That’s seriously insane but I guess it’s my thing and I better enjoy it now while I still can. You need to get this blog sale going so you can just replace those polishes. lol

  10. Just a couple months ago I never would have considered paying $27 for a bottle of nail polish. Then I bought a couple bottles of OPI on eBay, and then a few more, and before you know it I’ve got 11 different shades of red…
Now that I’ve played around with different brands and formulas and finishes, I would totally spend $27 for a bottle of perfect nail polish–but probably not for a color as trendy and outgoing as Taboo. Taboo is beautiful, but I doubt I could wear it more than a few times before wanting to move on. I’ll stick with OPI for fun colors and finishes, but I did just order a bottle of Chanel Emprise (peachy beige-ish). I figure it’s a color I will wear frequently, and can therefore justify the hefty price tag!

    1. I totally get what you’re saying but I think that I tend to be the opposite. I will pay a lot more for a unique polish even though I may not wear it as much. I mean, I could get a pink from every brand out there from $1 to $30 so I’d rather go cheap on a “common” color. The more unique a color is, the more I want it. Ahhh…what a sickness. lol I’m going to have to look at Emprise….now I want it.

  11. It’s so beautiful! I just picked up Taboo last week and it is officially my most expensive polish to date. It beat my OPI The Man With the Golden Gun by $3 lol.
