KBShimmer Office Space Collection

KBShimmer Office Space Collection

Hey friends, I hope that you had a great New Year’s Eve! Mine was rather uneventful unless you call a swift acting stomach bug eventful. I’m going ok now, but I definitely was hating life while the bug worked its course. Anywho, it wasn’t the best way to end the year, but at least I’m 100% better now and can focus on just starting the new year with positivity. For my first post of 2017, I have 4 of 8 shades from the KBShimmer Office Space Collection to show you. Let me show you da pretties!

KBShimmer Take Back Ctrl

KBShimmer Cubicle Pusher

KBShimmer Fax of Life

KBShimmer A Hint of Manila

Take Back Ctrl is lyfe! I love, Love, LOVE how KBShimmer does cremes so it should come as no surprise that it is my favorite shade of the 4 I have here. Fax of Life and Cubicle Pusher have such a delicate and gorgeous holo that I just wasn’t able to capture. Every time that I had time to try to get sun shots of these polishes, the weather did not cooperate. It’s been so rainy and gray here in Southern California but I’m glad we’re getting rain even if it does ruin my swatches! I think that this collection is absolutely gorgeous and I can definitely say that these polishes are office appropriate but are not in the least bit boring. The fact that they look nice and delicate indoors but glowy and holo-y in the sun is the perfect balance. If you’re interested in picking up any of the shades from the KBShimmer Office Space Collection, you are in luck because the collection officially releases on 1/4/2017 on various retailers including kbshimmer.com

Let me know what you think about these shades. Are you planning on picking up any of them? Do you have a favorite? Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.

Another One Bites The Dust

Another One Bites The Dust

Ok, no, it’s not me…at least not yet. Earlier this month I got a wordpress notification congratulating me for 5 years of blogging. 5 years, really?! It feels strange saying this because it doesn’t feel like I’ve been at this that long. I keep thinking about just shutting down my blog altogether, but I know that I will miss it terribly. It is still fun most of the time especially now that I am posting less and just doing it when I want to. It feels like so many of the OG bloggers that got me excited about blogging have retired and it makes me feel like it’s the end of an era. While I was contemplating all of this, I started doing a “festive” mani and realized I had done the exact same manicure 5 years ago. It was kind of funny so I wanted to share it with you guys.

Oh, remember when I thought flash equaled good lighting? Hahaha! I do have to admit that my stamping was pretty good even as a newb, don’t you think? I know that my hand position and lighting left a lot to be desired, but I don’t think it was tooooo horrible. Or am I wrong?

And here is a polish that we all know and love: China Glaze Ruby Pumps. I actually couldn’t find my old bottle of this so I had to go out and buy it when I decided I wanted to do this mani. It’s such a gorgeous polish in my opinion.

And here is my full mani using Konad plate M60 and the white Konad polish. I did a crappy job of clean up since I still have some traces of the white polish on my skin–so please excuse that. I actually feel that my stamping was crisper on the first manicure, but that’s due to the white polish. I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but I feel like the Konad stamping polishes have gone down in quality. If you know of a super awesome white stamping polish, please let me know!

So, I leave you with this little blast from the past and hope that you stick around. I know I don’t post very often and I know that a lot of my old readers don’t stop by often because of this, but I just want to tell you all that I truly appreciate every visit, every comment and every like. You guys are what made blogging fun and I hope that you still enjoy reading my blog.

With much love and best wishes for 2017,

Cynthia

Zoya Enchanted Collection – Winter/Holiday 2016

Zoya Enchanted Collection – Winter/Holiday 2016

If there is one thing I look forward to just as much as my mom’s Christmas tamales, it’s the Zoya holiday collection. You may think I’m exaggerating but I am not–I love the holiday collections with a passion. This year is no exception because there are some lovely shades that I’m sure many of us will love. I have a LOT of swatching to get through before the end of the year so I’m hoping to pump out a lot of these reviews in the last week and a half because I do not want to start off 2017 with a backlog. I’m having a nail crisis currently because I’m just so unhappy with the length of my nails. I have to really find a happy medium between swatch length and work length. I am lucky to have long nail beds so my nails will normally look longer than they are, but any length bothers me. I love having super short nails, but I think that my swatches look better when I have some length. Ugh…I’ll just have to deal with it and cut my nails way down to a length I’ll be happy with. Anywho, let’s get back to the pretty polish. Check out my swatches of the Zoya Enchanted Collection below.

Zoya Saint

Zoya Olivera

Zoya Waverly

Zoya Elphie

Zoya Lorna

Zoya Alice

Let me just break this down for you: you need these. I have always been a big fan of the PixieDust formula and the four included in this collection are gorgeous. My pictures don’t do just to Saint which I think is the prettiest and most delicate shade from this collection. I really don’t have any complaints about this collection which is kinda new for me–Zoya really has a winner here. Have you picked up any of these beauties? Do you have any favorites? You can pick up the entire Zoya Enchanted Collection on zoya.com for $60 or $10 each. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

CND Creative Play – First Impressions

CND Creative Play – First Impressions

Heyyyo! We are about two weeks away from the end of the year and I’m sitting here scratching my head wondering where most of the year went. I’m still sound of mind (debatable), so I guess I don’t have too much to complain about. I noticed that I’ve had these swatches in my drafts folder for about 3 months, so I figured I might as well clear them out. I don’t know why this incredible laziness comes over me when it comes to actually putting a blog post together. Many people will say that swatching, photographing and editing pictures are the hardest and most time consuming parts of blogging, but I dread sitting down and writing up posts the most.. I guess part of it is that I have severe blogger burnout. Every time I try to pump myself up, I end up just flaking out. Let’s put my general laziness aside and focus on the polish…oh the polish! I think that the CND Creative Play polishes are old news now, but when I first saw these a few months ago at my local beauty supply, I was intrigued because I had never heard of this line. CND is obviously a well known brand for professionals so I was very curious to see what the Creative Play line offered to us “non-professionals.” Well, let me show you some swatches of the four polishes I picked up.

Look, there is nothing revolutionary about these polishes, but they are nice. The cremes are deliciously smooth so you won’t be disappointed. The one polish that was little difficult was Isle Never let you go because it was so darn sheer. I ended up applying 4 coats to make it look good, but I have seen people layer it over other colors with pretty nice results. Overall, I think these are nice and safe polishes. I didn’t see too many unique colors in the full display, but I can see myself picking up more shades to round out my collection of staple colors. Let me know what you think of these polishes; have you seen them or tried any yet? Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

Well hello there! How was your Thanksgiving? (I’m assuming that you’re American, here.) Mine was really nice despite the ham/car mishap that I had. Since I don’t eat turkey, I made a ham for Thanksgiving dinner. I was driving so carefully on my way to my brother’s house and then I took a sharp turn…which made all the ham juices fly out of my dish. My car now smells like glazed ham, but I guess it could be worse. Despite that, we had a really great time with a lot of friends and family. I ended up taking an extra day off so today is my first day back to work since last Wednesday. It’s so hard to go back to work after a short break–it sucks being an adult. Anywho, today I’m here to show you my swatches of the China Glaze Seas and Greetings Collection for Holiday 2016. Holiday, you say? You must be mistaken, you say. Now, now…don’t get all worked up about the lack of true seasonal colors or even a holiday vibe from this collection. Let’s take a look at my swatches below.

I’m torn here because I do like some of these shades quite a bit, but I just don’t get holiday from this collection. I do think there is a cute play on words for this collection and I wouldn’t bat an eyelash if these shades weren’t part of a holiday collection. I’m used to seeing tons of glitters, sparkle and jewel tones from China Glaze, but this year they just went another direction. My picks from this collection are: Seas and Greetings, Warm Wishes, Good Tide-ings and Snow Way. I’m sad that you can really see the gorgeous shimmer in Snow Way from my pictures but I promise it’s there. In fact, it’s the white equivalent of Pearl Jammin’. I really did not care for Partridge In A Pear Tree because it’s  difficult to work with due to the matte formula. I think the color is beautiful, but the formula not so much. Now for some details on where you can get these shades: Ulta will not be carrying this collection in stores or online. Sally Beauty will be carrying six shades from this collection in stores; the complete collection will be available online at SallyBeauty.com.  These will be sold in stores:

·         ‘Tis the Sea-Sun

·         The More, The Berrier

·         Seas and Greetings

·         Let’s Shell-ebrate

·         Twinkle, Twinkle Little Starfish

·         Joy to the Waves

Hi there! I’m not going to say happy Monday because I’m feeling pretty miserable right now. I was looking forward to going out trick-or-treating with my nephews tonight, but I got a pretty wicked cold so I’m going to have to sit this one out. I’m also staying home from work which I hate doing because I always feel like I fall so behind on my work. Oh well…I just hope that an extra day of rest will help. Today I have for you some shades from the soon to be released KBShimmer Winter Holiday Collection for 2016. This is a massive 16 piece collection that is sure to please you. I have 8 of the 16 shades to share with you. Let’s check out my swatches below.

Let’s start with the good: the holos in this collection are beautiful. I love how saturated they are and the formula on them is everything you have come to expect from this brand. The one polish I did not care for was Yeti Or Not. The formula was so thick that I couldn’t not get it to apply smoothly. I applied 3 coats to try to get it opaque, but you can still see some patchy areas. I think that for a polish like this, it would be best to layer it over a solid color. It is a pretty polish and has the potential to look beautiful as a topper–but I won’t wear it on its own again. Overall, I think this collection is beautiful and there is something for every taste. The KBShimmer Winter Holiday Collection will launch 11/1/2016 so make sure to head on over to kbshimmer.com to pick your favorites. Thank you for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

P.S. Please have a safe Halloween!

Zoya Urban Grunge Collection

Holy crap…it’s almost September! By now most of the Fall collections have dropped and we’re starting to look forward to the next season of shades. Personally, Fall shades are my favorite because I just love dark and moody shades. I’m pretty much caught up on all of my swatching so it feels like I can start just enjoying wearing manicures longer than a couple of days. This weekend I finally got the chance to swatch the last few polishes in my swatch pile and they are goygeous. Last week I showed you the creme half of the Zoya Urban Grunge Collection, and today I have the Metallic Holos. Let’s move forward with my swatches…

Welp, these are beautiful; there’s not much else to say about these polishes. I know that everyone is losing their marbles over Finley and Merida, but my surprise favorite is Alicia. Yes, I do think that Finley and Merida are gorgeous, but there is something unique about Alicia that just makes me love it. It’s not really a typical silver holo–it has a gold sheen to it that makes it look different. The holo is scattered and very delicate. The only thing about Alicia is that it does require 3 coats of polish for full opacity because it has a very sheer formula. I actually really liked the look of Alicia at one coat because it looks very neutral in low light but comes alive in the sun. For all of my swatches above, I applied 2 coats of polish and a glossy top coat. So what do you think? Have you picked up any of these beauties? If you’re interested, head over to zoya.com where these retail for $10. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon! Zoya Urban Grunge Collection

Hello, good Monday morning (if you’re reading this as soon as it was posted)! I’ve had some pretty uneventful days recently, and somehow I feel that in a way it is exactly what I needed. It hasn’t been as unbearably hot lately either so I think that has helped out with my mood. I get so grumpy when it’s so hot that I just don’t want to do anything. Not having AC in my apartment is kind of annoying, but being this close to the beach means that I don’t really need AC for most of the year so I guess I shouldn’t complain. Things have also gotten back to normal since my parents went back home; I love them to death, but sometimes I just need some peace and quiet. This weekend I tried to get a bunch of things done but pretty much failed: story of my life! One thing that I did do, is that I got the creme half of the Zoya Urban Grunge Collection swatched. Yipppeeee! At least I got one thing done that was on my list. Let me show you my swatcheroos before we dive in.

Oh, where to start? You all know I love myself some delicious creme polishes, but I am not super in love with this half of the collection. These are marketed as one coat cremes, and I can tell you that these are much better cremes than the Sunsets. You can definitely get away with one coat on some of these if you use a thick enough coat, but personally I prefer to use two thinner coats because I feel like I get better results. The formula on these was not bad–with the exception of Noah. Oh, Noah, you traitorous putty creme! It was really difficult to work with Noah and even after 3 coats, it just looked streaky and off. I do like the color and I can see it working on many skin tones, but it was just a big fat nope for me. As for the rest of the colors, I used 2 thin coats of polish and 1 coat of glossy top coat. If you want to hear the honest truth, save your doubloons. These are nice creams if you don’t already have something similar, but let’s be honest: you probably have a few dupes of all of these. However, if you are kind of normal and don’t have numerous dupes of these colors, I feel that Wyatt and Mallory are definitely worth picking up. You will also need your doubloons for the other half of this collection: the metallic holos. Be still, my beating heart! (Swatches coming soon.) If you’re interested in picking up any of these cremes from the Zoya Urban Grunge Collection, you can head over to zoya.com where they retail for $10 each. What do you think of this half of the collection? Are there any shades that you are interested in getting? Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I hope you have a great day!

Ahhhh! Wednesday! We are just about halfway through the workweek, and I am already thinking about the weekend. It’s not just me, right? Lately I’ve been having a lot of problems staying asleep through the night. Even though I tend to fall back asleep quickly, I wake up about 2-3 times each night. I think this is the main reason why I always wake up feeling so darn tired. That is definitely something that I need to talk to my doctor about. In fact, I have been wondering if maybe I have sleep apnea–great, one more thing on my jacked up health conditions list. Anyway, let’s move on to some more pleasant things like awesome nail polish. Today I have the OPI Washington DC Collection for Fall 2016 and lemme tell you, there are some awesome shades here.  Let’s check out my swatches, shall we?

You already know how I feel about cremes, so this is my kind of collection. OPI always does such a great job with cremes, and these are no different. I had zero issues with the formula on these: all of my swatches show two coats of polish and one coat of glossy top coat. Yes, I understand that these colors may not be mind blowing, but they are beautiful, creamy and very versatile. This is also the first collaboration between OPI and Kerry Washington who is their new Creative Ambassador. If you’re a Scandal fan, you’ll definitely like the names of these polishes. What do you think of this collection? Let me know if you’ve picked up any of these shades or if you have any favorites. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

Have I mentioned before that Fall polish collections are my absolute favorite? As much as I love super bright and flashy colors that tend to pop up during the Summer months, I am a lover of all things dark and moody. Fall collections always bring out rich and saturated darker colors that I just crave. I have quite a few Fall collections to share with you in the next week so I’m uber excited. I don’t know about you, but I think that China Glaze always tends to do some pretty awesome collections with great themes. This fall, the China Glaze Rebel Collection takes us back to the 90’s. Being born in 1979, I feel equally part 80’s and part 90’s kid so this was a fun blast to the past. Let me show you my swatches below before I get into my thoughts.

I’ve got to admit that I love this collection not just because of all the 90’s references, but because it has so much variety! You are bound to find at least a few shades to love even if they are not all your cup of tea. Fresh Prince-ss seems a little out of place in a traditional Fall collection but it’s a beautiful pink in west Philadelphia born and raised…uh, nevermind. The formula was ok: I applied 3 thin coats and one coat of glossy top coat. The only other polish that required 3 coats was Pearl Jammin’ but it is one of those transformer shades that can make another polish look amazing when applied over it thinly. I rather like wearing it on its own and think that the three coats is well worth it. The rest of the shades were easy two coaters and all of my swatches show a coat of glossy top coat except for Combat Blue-ts. Because Combat Blue-ts dries to a matte finish, it can be a little finicky. I overworked the second coat a bit so it doesn’t look as smooth as it could be, but the color is so rich and vibrant that I can overlook it. I didn’t top coat the polish because I wanted to show it in its satin/matte finish, but I will definitely gloss it up in the future. Overall, I am very happy with the China Glaze Rebel Collection and think there are are some gorgeous shades here that should not be missed. My favorites are: Dope Taupe, Teen Spirit, Blue Ya! and Pearl Jammin’. These are the main standouts for me, but I do like other shades from this collection. What do you think about this collection? Do you see any shades that you will be picking up? Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.
