I don’t know what is up with me lately, but I feel like I have lost my mojo. I’m having a really hard time swatching polishes, or just being excited about nail art in general. I have been unhappy with every single swatch I’ve done lately and just end up deleting everything despite all the time I spent applying the polishes and then photographing them. I tried doing some simple nail art today, and it came out really ugly so I just acetoned it off. (Yes, I am using acetone as a verb now. It’s my thing. Deal with it.) I think that stressing about my job and going on a bunch of interviews to try to find a better job is taking its toll on me. I’ve been thinking for a few weeks that maybe I should take a break from blogging, but then I get all excited about something, and I just have to jump on and share it with you guys. Story of my life, eh? I just don’t really want to be one of those bloggers who is constantly negative to the point that people just get sick of my whining, youΒ know?Β I should probably just take it a day at a time and if I feel like blogging, I will. I have a lot of swatches saved up from when I do my weekly swatch-a-thons so it’s not like I don’t have plenty of material, but I always like to share other stuff because I’m not just 4 fingers, damnit! haha I am a person too–crazy and all–but there is more to me than just my obsession with nail polish. I hope my silly stories amuse you because it sure is fun to share them.
Today I have these two awesome polishes to share with you. These are my first ever Barry M polishes so I was beyond excited to try them out. I was secretly hoping to hate them because they are not easily accessible. I lie. They are rather easy to get via Ninja Polish, but I really, really, REALLY hate to pay for shipping so I wish I could get these somewhere locally. Here are my two choices from the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine line:
Β Green Berry
Β Blueberry
The formula on these two polishes was identical: smooth, opaque, self-leveling and absolutely delicious. These polishes are beyond shiny–the swatches above do not have any kind of top coat and I applied 3 thin coats but 2 regular coats would have been enough. I really didn’t want to adore these, but I do and now my wallet will weep as I methodically acquire every color in this collection which has 16 other shades. Ok, maybe I don’t want all 16 colors, but there are at least 6 more that are calling my name.
I was thinking the other day that I should take a little more pride in my appearance. I am such a slob when I wake up in the morning to go to work that I rarely do more than apply some moisturizer and some concealer. The other day I woke up a little earlier than usual (I have to be at work at 5:00 am which is brutal), so I actually put some make up on–nothing major, just some lip gloss an a little blush. Well, let me tell you that everyone was complimenting me that day–I guess I really do look like crap the rest of the days so a little make up really made a huge difference. Funny thing is that I got tons of compliments on my hair, but I haven’t had a cut in about a month or so, I think. In fact, I should be getting a trim because the one thing about having a pixie cut is that maintenance is a bitch especially because my hair grows super crazy fast. I also think that the less I care about my make-up, hair, nails and clothing, the worst I feel…which makes sense because if you look like a slob, you’re going to feel like a slob. I just wish I didn’t have to be up so early because then I might actually have time to actually fuss over that stuff. Ugh, I sound like such a girl right now.
Anyway, I also wanted to share on here (in case you didn’t see my post on facebook) that I’ve put up the Bettina Picnic Collection up on my blog sale. When I ordered them, I thought they were straight up cremes (you know I’m a sucker for cremes!) but they ended up being shimmers–almost like glass flecked shimmers. It’s not that I don’t like shimmers, but I much prefer cremes so I know I’m not going to get much use out of these, and I would rather they go to a new polish-loving home. So go check them out on my blog sale, here.
This weekend, I’m planning to sit down and actually answer all the comments that I’ve gotten this past week. I’ve read them all, but my funkΒ has prevented me from actually responding to them all. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and comment–just know that I’ve read every single one. Thanks for sticking with me through the ups and downs.
Much Love,
C

Hi Cynthia, I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling out of sorts. I hope that you soon get a job that makes you happy and have more humane work hours ;-p I’m keeping my fingers crossed π
Blog when you feel like it, no pressure. I like to read about both polishes and your life in general and don’t feel like you have to censor yourself and be super happy all the time. Stressing out about work is totally understandabel and this situation won’t last forever. You just hang in there.
Btw, you can find Barry M polishes on asos.com and they have free international shipping so shop away π
I have bought from them before and I was very happy with my purchase.
I’m wearing Greenberry right now! I’m from the UK though so I have many a Barry M Gelly – love ’em!
P.S. Great blog
Ah Blueberry is such a beautiful color. π Love it.
Pls dont be stressed about swatching your polishes, that should be “fun & games” in the first place.
Feel hugged.

Oh boy, I have 3 Barry M from the ice cream collection that I absolutely loooove. I got them before Ninja Polish carried them so a friendly blogger offered to send me over some π I didn’t let myself get obsessed because I knew I couldn’t easily get them. The more I see Gelly swatches the harder its getting to resist. I’ve avoided them successfully because I too hate paying shipping. I know I’ll crack one day, especially seeing your swatch of Green Berry.

Oh my god, those are so f-ing pretty!! And to think I just ordered other polishes from Ninja and could have gotten free shipping…
I love that you dance around and no matter what anyone says, I know I feel better when I know my hair, make-up and nails are done–not overdone just nice. Anyway, keep doing what works for you! I’d read whatever you want to post here, you are hilarious π
PS I think you should just say acetoned i.e. I acetoned it. It sounds bad-ass and jargon-y.
Thank you so much for your kind words! And yes, you have to get these polishes next time you place a NP order! π I think I’m going to keep focusing on doing things that are good for me and hopefully that will make me FEEL better mentally and not just physically. π
It really sucks that you’re feeling stuck in a rut but it does become better! That being said, if you need a hiatus or a blog holiday, then take one! The people who really care will keep supporting you! Beside, you blog at your best when you feel at your best! π
Thank you so much! You’re so right. π
I’m sorry about the nail funk. I’m feeling a little behind and out of it lately, just cuz I have a lot going on and also my summer job just started up and as it turns out after 4 ish hours in the sun and keeping track of 40-50 kids and walking back and forth back and forth across the park all day I can barely get in the door before I’m shedding my clothes and taking a nap. It’s really wearing me out. Also I have school work I need to finish, like in the next 10 days, so I really have a lot to be doing besides nails. :-/ I think you should just do what you said and if you feel like doing a post, do it, if not, don’t. You’re just burnt out cuz of work and that makes it hard to keep your energy up for creating, photographing and writing. Hang in there. π

You know, this makes me wonder how some of the big bloggers do it because some of them work, have kids and all that so how does that even work? They’re super women. lol I hope you’re able to get all your stuff done–it sounds like a lot and you’re preggo! Slow down. π I think I’m trying to get a bunch of posts lined up so I can have most of the week off without having to worry about polishing my nails and such.
I feel like I commented on these already – it must have been on Twitter, but, HOLY BALLS, I love them!!! So shiny, so vibrant, so pretty…*starry eyes*
I totally agree on the appearance thing. I like to be “done” just because that’s how I like to present myself, but ever since things went down with work about a year ago, most days I do not even bother. Seeing as cosmetics and such are kind of a hobby, it’s almost sad to have somewhat lost that part of myself. Hopefully I can get back into the groove once I get through this crazy patch of change.
And “acetoned” is, indeed, a new thing. π
I have been trying to make an effort with at least combing my hair. Today I noticed I had a few flyaways and they were all gray hairs!!! It was like I had that Alfalfa cow lick but with a bunch of gray hairs. Sad panda over there. And, yes!! These are so shiny and vibrant. I can’t stand it. I want them all.
