My Favorite Products For Dry Skin

It seems that the older I get, the drier my skin becomes. In my teens and twenties, I had terribly oily skin which eventually transitioned to combination skin and finally to dry as the Sahara in my late 30’s. My skin is so dry that it flakes like dandruff off my face. How attractive, right? While my whole body suffers from dry skin, today I’m going to focus on facial products that I use and absolute love. Are you ready to see a quick rundown of my favorite products for dry skin?

I probably use the Too Faced Hangover primer more than any other primer under my make up. It smells absolutely delicious–like fresh coconuts–and leaves my skin feeling quenched and supple. I am not sure if this primer really prolongs the wear of my make up, but I know that well moisturized skin is always going to give you a better base for make up. I also bought the spray version of this primer but didn’t care for the packaging because the sprayer started leaking. The actual product is pretty much the liquid version of this primer. This product retails for $32.00 for 1.35oz.

The Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil was the first oil that I ever used, and I still buy it religiously. Not only is this good for the face (sometimes I add a drop or two to my moisturizer), but it’s also good for my cuticles and elbows. It’s very light and seeps into the skin quickly so you’re never left feeling like a greaseball. I do the bulk of my moisturizing at night so I apply this on my face and lips for extra hydration. Sephora sells this in multiple sizes and I tend to buy the standard size which is 1.7oz for $48.00

The Korres Wild Rose 24 hour Moisturizing and Brightening Cream has been my go-to night cream for about a year. Don’t let the rose scent scare you: it is the lightest and most delicate rose scent ever. It’s fairly thick so a little goes a long way. I really wish that this cream came in a pump because I hate dipping my fingers into things due to sanitary reasons. What I love the most about this product is that it’s not overly greasy, and I wake up with soft and plump skin. I have only been able to purchase this on HSN and on the Korres website so I hope it’s not being discontinued or something. This cream retails for $39 for 1.35oz of product.

Since I love my Josie Maran Argan Oil, I decided to give the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil a shot. I decided to try it out because it was 50% off at Ulta, and of course I jumped on it. The oil is supposed to be used under your make up but can also be used on its own. I find that it is very illuminating and is not heavy at all. It has a very light lavander-like scent that does not bother me at all. Sometimes I apply this before applying a creamy make up primer like the Too Faced Hangover Primer or the primer I will mention below. This product retails for $42 for 1oz.

Lastly, I have recently started using the Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer which is marketed as a primer and moisturizer in one. This product is fairly creamy, has no scent and does a good job of moisturizing. Again, I am not sure if this really extends the wear of my make up, but it definitely makes my skin feel good. Once I finish this product, I am not sure if I will be repurchasing since the Too Face Primer is $32 for 1.35oz while this one is $42 for 1oz. Yeah, this one is a little more pricey and I like it about the same so I think I will stick with the Too Faced primer in the future.

Because my skin is so sensitive, when I find something that works for me I cling to it until it either stops working for me or it gets discontinued. If you have dry skin, have you tried out any of these products? Do you have any recommendations for a dry skin sister? Let me know in the comments below. 1. I really wanted to like Proactiv. I used it year ago but benzoyl peroxide is bad for my skin. Since they came out with Proactive MD (sans BP), I tried it again and it did nothing for my skin. I think it dried it out even more. I got a sample of that green tea moisturizer and I love how it smells but it’s too lightweight for me.

  1. Oh, man…PREACH. The transition from oily to combo to dry is REAL (thanks, aging).
That Josie Maran oil is life. I wanna try the Too Faced primer and the Korres cream now. :p
Remember we had at one time talked about that LA Splash foundation? The gel one in the round thing? GIRL, BYE. It was way too yellow for me, but worse than that, it MESSED up my skin…it took like two weeks to get it to non-Sahara status. Failed experiment…thankfully it’s relatively cheap.

    1. Life twinning once again. You know, I don’t remember that foundation! I’ve been wanting to try the Tarte Shape Tape foundation (the hydrating one) but there was so much backlash that I decided to stay away. I will try the NARS one that is supposed to be luminous. We shall see…

  2. Ugh, skin changes!! I apply so many layers of product now that I have to line them up on my counter in order of use to make sure I don’t leave one out. It’s worth it for the results, or to prevent problems, but still… what a pain. Back when I was younger, all I needed was a moisturizer at night and a sunscreen for the daytime.

    1. Seriously! It feels like a production to get ready for bed. Since I work from home now, I rarely wear anything on my face (makeup wise) so I am fine with some moisturizer or oil during the day. But holy moly at night I have to take out the arsenal. Sometimes it feels like soo much, and I feel like it’s worse during the winter.
