I hate that I haven’t posted in such a long time, but I’ve been in a craptacular frame of mind so I’ve just been laying low. This month I turn 34–holy crap hello mid-30’s! While I am not a person who is afraid of growing older, I am a little jarred by the idea that one more year has gone by and I am still nowhere near where I wish I was at this age. I am working a dead-end job that I abhor, my health is horrid and I haven’t made many improvements in my personal life. I guess I can say that 2013 hasn’t been THAT bad to me as opposed to 2012 or 2011 which have been the most horrible years of my life so far. ANY improvement is already a small victory, right? Besides being annoyed with my life overall, I also can’t get my dang nails to grow. I nubbinized them a couple of weeks ago, and they are basically refusing to grow at all. Since I hate super short nails AND long nails (hey, I’m the Goldilocks of nails!), I haven’t been able to do any swatching. This really bites because now I am extremely behind with all my swatching but there’s no point crying over spilled acetone.
The polish I have for you today is from Michael Kors’ new beauty line. I’ve got to admit that I was super excited when I saw promo imagines because the packaging looked so luxe and decadent. When I got a chance to check everything out at Macy’s, my excitement fizzled.
I’ll be the first one to say that this promo image looks awesome. However, the bottle does not have a substantial feel to it and the cap feels like cheap plastic so it’s definitely not what I would expect from Michael Kors. Now let’s talk about the actual polish, but let me show you some swatches first.
Michael Kors Glam Nail Lacquer Envy was really the only color in the whole line that even slightly interested me…and by slightly interesting me, I mean that it didn’t make me want to fall asleep from boredom. I would have picked up more polishes if the color choice was more interesting. In all honesty, I think that when it comes to major polish fanatics like us, it is very hard to really impress us. I found that the formula was decent. I wouldn’t say it’s problematic, but I did think that it was a little thin which is not something I can really excuse at this price point. I had some slight bubbling issues but I can blame that on the heat and humidity and not necessarily on the polish. The hue is a typical staple color so it’s not anything that I could get too excited about. As far as cremes go, this is a nice one and I did like how shiny and glossy it looked even without topcoat.
I guess I’m not a fan of this polish. When I’m paying $18 for a .3oz bottle, I think I’m expecting something a little more interesting. Maybe if and when the color palette of this line is more interesting, I may be interested in purchasing more. Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t really recommend these polishes unless you’re strictly getting them for the luxury brand appeal. So what do you think? Would you or have you purchased any polishes from this line?
I hope to get back to a regular posting schedule next week so thanks so much for bearing with me. Thanks for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!
I thought I hadn’t read anything from you in awhile! Work for me has been craptacular for me, too, and I have had no summer because I’m always here covering staff shortages 6-7 days a week. FML :-/
Anyway, major fail, MK. I’d want a metal cap at least for that price. I find myself much happier to spend $10 on an indie for .5oz that is completely unique than a high end polish. I do like some of the Butter London’s but for basic cremes like this I stick with China Glaze, Essie, even Sinful Colors… because if I’m wearing a creme I’m probably putting glitter over it anyway heehee
A fancy name just doesn’t sell everything. I love MK designs but polish? I will save some dollars and find a dupe in Sinful Colors or pricier but still way cheaper OPI. Seriously if someone sold dukey on a stick and attached a designer name and price tag people would buy it.
What a lovely color!

I don’t think I would pay $18 for nail polish anytime soon, but I do really like this shade! I like how the bottle looks too, and that you can detach the gold cap -at least it looks that way from your photos!-

I’m so glad you do these reviews. When I saw MK had a nail polish line, I got excited. I like the way you touch on all the things I look for in a polish. I can’t afford high end polish all the time, but do like to buy them once in a while as a gift for my daughter. I will be passing on this one because it does look like Sinful Colors line. I only like creams in fab colors. I have one that matches my cat’s Russian Blue-like color. We look good together 😉

Cynthia…….. your stubbin’s look awesome! pretty color! I’ll have you know that turning another year in your 30’s isn’t that bad at all. It helps you to appreciate the years before the BIG 40 and big 50 and so forth. It’s just one day at a time is all that you can do and focus on your growths and NOT widths nor stubs. Use Nail envy for your stubs, load your music player with JAMS and onwards you go towards self-actualization. AND SWATCH!
$18 for something I’m almost positive that I have a dupe for in the Sinful Colors line? Ummmm, no. I mean, it’s a pretty color, but as you said, not really a stand-out. If I’m going to pay that much for a polish, it better freakin’ wow me and make me hot under the collar, if you know what I mean 😉
I have been sending “grow nail” vibes your way, so I hope they start working soon!!

ouch at the price, hope to see you post more though 🙂
Yeah, the price isn’t fun at all. haha.
For that price, the least they could do is provide a substantial bottle, for crying out loud :p It is a gorgeous color, though, but I think I already have an overpriced fuschia in a similar shade, lol. Personally, I prefer Duri Rejuvacote but honestly, your nails look fab at this length. Do what makes you happy, though ♥ Glad you can see a silver lining, that this year’s been better than the past two. Here’s hoping things continue to look up for ya 🙂

I was just thinking that looks exactly like YSL Violine Surrealiste so I shouldn’t have even gotten this, but I guess I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity about the brand. I’ve been hearing so much about Rejuvacote so I think I’m finally going to try it out. 🙂
I agree that the bottle looked luxurious, but the polish it self looked blah.. I would have expected something more, something more unique. Well, I’m definitely not buying! 😀
And hope your personal goals will be closer to you by next year! <3 🙂

Sooo…it sounds like you and I are preeettty much at exactly the same point right now. I am somehow now 32 and am getting upset that I am not where I thought I would be at this point. I didn’t used to worry about it much because I felt I had time, but time is going by faster and faster. However: I agree that at least this year isn’t as bad as last year, although I was hoping for more positive changes/growth. Still, I should probably just accept that at least this year is better.
“Goldilocks of nails” and “no use crying over spilled acetone” – hahaha.
Eeehhhh….no on the polish. That is one of my favorite color families for nails, so I do like the color, but the fact that it’s not that great for a luxury brand turns me off.
I love this shade and the lip gloss is amazing! Every time I wear it I get a lot of compliments and I mean a lot of compliments.
