Beejus, can you believe that Christmas is in a few days and then it’s just a hop, skip and a jump to 2013? I am actually really excited about the new year just because I want to close the chapter on the crapfest that 2012 has been. Don’t get me wrong–things have definitely improved these last few months of 2012, but I am just looking forward to a fresh start.
For my first real holiday mani, I decided to stick with a combination of red and white.
I started out with two coats of Nails Inc. Gatwick. Great Odin’s Raven! this polish is awesome. I usually have a love/hate relationship with matte polishes, but this one just blew me away. The formula is super thin so it doesn’t get goopy at all, and it’s really easy to control.
And here is the belle of the ball: Barielle Elle’s Spell. This gorgeous polish is from Barielle’s 2010 holiday collection and I definitely think it was the stand-out from that collection. It has a slightly red-tinted base that is pretty sheer and it’s chock-full of golden-red flakes. I have not tried to wear this polish on it’s own and I don’t think I will–I prefer an opaque base as opposed to a sheer jelly.
Lastly, I applied a snowflake design from Bundle Monster plate BM 319. Snowflakes are definitely my favorite holiday design right now. Just because I couldn’t help myself, I ended up mattifying the whole manicure.
Which version do you prefer: shiny or matte?
Well, my dears, there you have my holiday mani. This year I have decided not to buy any Christmas gifts. I feel kind of like a Scrooge, but I’d rather save the money right now. My parents aren’t coming for a visit this year so I will probably be spending Christmas with my brother and sil–along with my youngest brother whom is also known as “The Mooch” to my long-time readers. Are you prepared for Christmas? What are your plans?
This weekend I am going to have 2 guests posts for you from two of my lovely blogger friends: Amanda and Siobhan. I can’t wait for you to see their awesome designs. There is one more day left to enter my 1 year blogiversary giveaway so don’t miss out!

Thanks for stopping by today and have a great weekend.
It’s so darling that you & the “mooch” are developing your own family traditions. Just think, he’ll always be “mooching” at your place for the forseable holidays……ahhhh new times w/great memories!
Anyway, since I love the snow, love the snowflake mani!
LOL…the mooch continues his mooching ways.
Every time I mattify a manicure, I feel like it doesn’t last at all. This chipped right away so that made me sad. 🙁

OMG Elle’s Spell looks gorgeous over this Nails Inc! It’s the perfect combo really. I’ve worn it solo to see how it looks, it takes quite a few coats and its best layered… obvi. Lol

I do want to wear it alone because I want to see how those flakes look without a dark base color. I’ll have to try that next! 🙂

Great mani, I love the depth all the layers gave it. I’m with you on being ready to move on to 2013, this year has been one of my all time worst years ever…maybe even the worst. Hopefully 2013 will make up for it…wishful thinking.

Firstly I actually am a very matte person.
Secondly, I really love this look on you! It is stunning and the red rocks on you.
Thirdly, we just having dinner with ma, stepdad and my Gran. Gideon’s family is away so we will just be at home this year. I wasn’t going to buy prezzies but I did alright so decided to treat everyone.
Fourthly, A-beeping-MEN! Can’t wait for 2012 to be over. It was a shittier than shit year and I can’t wait for a fresh start!!!! Sorry for all the swearing.
LOL…it seems that a group of us is definitely ready for 2012 to be over. You know, I think we have to all work EXTRA hard to make sure we have a better year.
I think that I like to mattify polishes that have flaky bits like this one. I loved how it looked in the sun–too bad it chipped right away. 🙁

I’m 100% going to work harder to make 2013 rock. Also I have a lot to make up to G so I NEED to do my best and then some more lol!
What!!! I flippen hate when you have a pretty polish and then BAM it chips. It’s like the universe says HAHA watch this!

Funny your youngest bro is The Mooch too. So is mine. It must be a birth order thing – the last born. My son, still in Mooch training at 20, who is also the youngest of 4 is the same way as his uncle (my little bro. The Original Mooch) Wishing you well, and a fabulous 2013!!! I prefer the mani with lots of high gloss shine, so no matte coat for me. The more the glitz and glam the more the shiny smooth glassy finish, the better!
I think it totally does have to do with birth order!! He will always be a mooch until I lay down the law–but who knows if I will ever do that since I’m such a sucker. I tend to prefer high gloss manis as well, but sometimes I just like to mattify them when I have a polish with flakies like Elle’s Spell. Unfortunately, they don’t last on my nails at all. 🙁
Thank you so much for the well wishes! 🙂 I hope you have a great 2013 as well.

Ah, a little Anchorman reference to brighten my day! 😉
Barielle’s Elle’s Spell looks awesome over that Nails Inc.! I can’t decide on shiny vs. matte…I like shiny, but I do like the snowflakes matte and I like how the matte brings out the flakie effect, too.
I wrote a large comment on Nicole’s blog about my Christmas plans, so you can read that to learn about my holiday, haha. Or I can cut-and-paste if you would like a mega-comment. 😉
Oh, I thought you weren’t doing guest blogs since you said in a post you decided not to take a break after all? Sorry, I am not intentionally being a turd! Although I will be glad to see the ones you have coming up. 😉
I would like to join you, Frosso, and Siobhan on the “I hate 2012, it was the worst ****ing year ever” train. I am getting nervous that I have put so much hope into 2013 being better and now it is practically here (gulp)! As long as there’s some improvement for all of us, I’ll be OK with it. 😉
I love the rubbery finish of Gatwick! Your finished look is beautiful!

Thank you so much! 🙂
Oooooh I think I like the matte version better. I like how the flaky finish shows up that way. The snowflakes are cute and well done, too. Cute holiday mani! 🙂
