American Classic Kissin Cousin

Today I have another oldie for you from American Classic. I am still actively trying to hunt down more information about this company and this phantom line of nail polishes. I might just have to go and talk to my nail polish guy again since he told me some background info on the the founder of the company. I was looking at the ingredient section on the back and it is definitely not Big 3-Free…not that it’s a big surprise considering how old the bottle looks.

This color is called Kissin Cousin. What is a “kissin cousin” anyway? I mean, it sounds a little incestuous to me.  The formula on this was very sheer but also very buildable. I love this soft color because it just looks so delicate and bright.

Will you stop with the glitter already!? Here is Kissin Cousin with a coat of Servin’ Up Sparkle. I also applied a mattifier  to change the look of the glitter and polish.

Have you ever come across these American Classic nail polishes? Please let me k now if you have any information about them; I’d love to know how old these are! Thanks for visiting today and I hope that you have a lovely weekend.

  1. Sorry I know nothing about it 🙁 It sure is pretty though!

Kissin' Cousin is probably pretty much what you think it is. In some states you can marry your cousin. BUT, I just like to think of it when I hear at as the cheesy ELvis movie 🙂 <3 Elvis.

  2. This lilac is beautiful <333 Do you know if it look like "To Buy or Not To Buy" by Essie ? Because I love this color but I can't find it (it was in the spring collection :/)
Have a nice weekend my dear. xxxx

    1. Oh, I didn’t get To Buy or Not To Buy so I don’t know if they are similar. I think TBONTB has shimmer/glitter flakes but this one doesn’t. The base color is somewhat similar from the swatches I just saw. 🙂

Have a nice weekend too. 😉

  3. This is such a lovely manicure! I love it to pieces!

The company, however, sounds vaguely familiar as do the bottles. I'm interested in hearing/seeing more about it.

    1. Thanks so much!

This whole thing is really annoying me because I want to know. I snooped online and I think American Classic makes Gelous; the logo and bottles look the same. My nail guy told me that the guy who made AC also founded China Glaze and that's why the bottles look so similar. Just call me Nancy Drew!

  6. What the heck IS a kissing cousin anyway? Is it literally someone who loves/dates/kisses their cousin?!?! EW!!! Anyway, before I barf… for a glitter-hater (allegedly, anyway) you sure came up with a winning combo! I absolutely love that!! I think the matte topcoat made all the difference. It looks awesome. Sadly- I have no info for you on that brand of polish. :-/

    1. Yup, I agree: it's all about the matte topcoat. I am seriously salivating at the idea of those matte glitters from nails inc, but I don't want to buy them until I have other things I really want/need from sephora.com so I can get free shipping at $50. I hate and refuse to pay for shipping on principle. My sephora still doesn't have them in store or else I'd be getting them yesterday.

No one seems to know anything about this brand. Sally's gave me a phone number for American Classic in NJ so I'm going to give them a call. This nail polish has a California address on the back, though. Grrrrrr.

      1. Huh… well good luck. Maybe that number will have some info but since it says CA on the back… I woudn't hold my breath. 🙁 I totally agree with you on shipping and on the matte "sprinkles" glitter or whatever the heck it's called. It's expensive though, isn't it? Like 17 dollars or something… that's kinda a lot for me to pay for some glitter but it is pretty special so… idk. I do love them. You don't have floam, do you? I'm sure I'd see it if you did, but it jumped into my mind since we were talking matte glitter.

        1. No! It's $9.50 but it is just .33oz like all nails inc polishes which does make it pricier. I want the teal one and maybe the pink one. I also want NARS Koliary but it's out of stock. I was thinking about getting a couple more Illamasqua but I should just stop binge shopping. I'm going to my cheap nail places tomorrow so who knows what's going to happen. I don't have floam…I wanted it and then I lost interest. It does look interesting.

          1. I kinda lost interest in it too after a while of wanting it really bad. I just can't do the indie stalking and whatever necessary so I forget about a lot of goodies. :-/

            1. Yeah, I don't think I'll ever really get into the indie thing as long as they continue to be so hard to get. I will continue to admire them on other blogs and that's it. 🙂

  8. I'm not into the name Kissin' Cousins…it's odd and kinda creepy!
I like the manicure a lot! I usually do not like matte glitter, but this one is a win!

    1. It's definitely creepy!

I really like how this turned out as well. It's very girlie. It's not crazy but still interesting. There is something about matte glitter that I've always liked. 🙂

  9. This is so flattering and natural and downright pretty on you! I love this one. I should totally try a similar thing. I’m wondering if I should have bought that glitter from the Ballet collection because I love the look in swatches every single time. Same with Servin’ Up Sparkle. Hmmm…I think I must go on a quest…

    1. Thank you! 🙂 Ever since I got my new camera, I have been trying to mess around with all the settings until I figure out what works best for nail pics. It was so overcast when I took these pics but they came out okay.

You know what? I have that other glitter, Piroutte My Whistle, and I don’t like it as much because the base isn’t clear. I guess I just haven’t figured out how to wear it in a way that I like yet. It’s the exact same glitter, just in a murky base.

      1. I didnt know it was murky! Thanks for the tip! I like Servin' a bit better because of that light catching holo. Gives it a little somethin'…

    1. I'm glad to hear not the kissing cousins. lol

I have been on a glitter binge lately. I guess I'm making up for lost time? Trying to kiss and make up with glitter since I was always bashing it. 🙂
