Morgan Taylor Lacquer – First Look

self purchased

Ah, well…I wish I had great news today regarding the interview I told you about yesterday but things didn’t quite work out the way I was expecting. I’m really frustrated and disappointed right now but, you know what? I just need to continue to move forward. The more I dwell on things, the worse I feel so I’m just going to put it behind me. Something funny just happened to me. I went to the supermarket because I needed some groceries. If you don’t know this about me, I love to sing. Like I seriously love to sing and enjoy karaoke despite not having a good signing voice. Singing in my car is one of the things that I love to do and I usually don’t care if people look at me weird. So today I was singing Sublime’s Santeria at the top of my lungs when it came on the radio. Do you remember that song?

So right when I was in the middle of this, a car of stoner looking teens drove up next to me and they were like: “Awww yeahhh!!!” And they started singing with me. That made me crack up inside and kind of brightened my afternoon a bit.  I was planning to do my nails to kind of distract me, but instead I decided to show you my swatches of a few polishes that I purchased last week. If you’re like me, you’re always on the lookout for new polish brands to try it. One of the owners of the handful of beauty supply stores that I frequent is always keeping me in the loop about new brands or releases. He had mentioned Morgan Taylor Lacquer a few months ago so I was super excited to see that they had gotten them in. I went a little gaga when I saw the full display but I held back by just purchasing 3 polishes instead of the 20 I wanted. Are you ready to see my swatches of the three Morgan Taylor Lacquer beauties I purchased?

Hot Hot Tamale is one of those really bright red orange colors that make your nails look like they are on fire!  The formula on this polish was spectacular: super pigmented, smooth and glossy. I applied two regular coats for full coverage. I kept thinking of Hot Tamales the whole time. I may like this color even more since tamales are like my favorite holiday food of ALL TIME.

I don’t know if you remember the craze that Sephora by OPI Metro Chic caused when it first came out. Ever since then, I have been in love with smoky purple/taupe polishes. Met My Match is a smoky purple–definitely not very taupe-y. Again, the formula was perfection in a bottle and I only needed two coats for full opacity.

And lastly, here is Gotta Have Hue. Yes, I love this super hard. The color is gorgeous and the application was flawless. This was nearly a one coater but 2 coats are ideal here.

So what do I think of Morgan Taylor so far? Uhm, home run! Any time I try a new brand, I always go for their creme polishes first because that is my favorite finish. If a brand can’t make excellent creme polishes, I usually walk away. I am so happy with the formula, application and brush of these polishes which is good and bad; good because I didn’t waste my money and bad because I will now be wasting A LOT of my money on these. ha! If you can get your hands on these polishes, I highly recommend them. I’ll be picking up some new colors soon with different finishes to see how those perform.

I so appreciate all the wonderful comments you all left in my last post. I read every single comment, and I can’t tell you how much it means to me that some of you publicly or privately share your stories and words of encouragement. Never in a million years did I think I would find so many wonderful people in this lovely community–thank you all for taking the time to interact with me here, twitter and facebook.

Much love,

C

  1. more than 2 years ago, i was working for this huge mobile company known worldwide, in the marketing department, with all this globalization, the company started to merge regional offices (i used to work for the central america office) and after 6 stressing months of rumors, we received the confirmation that our office was closing and moving to colombia.
i was a marketing assistant, so OBVIOUSLY i wasn’t going to move there.. so i was there, with less than 3 months to find a new job.

i started my job hunting in the moment the rumors started.. cynthia, i used to go to 6 interviews monthly.. it was overwhelming, people didn’t want to pay what you deserve.. i wasn’t earning a lot of money in this company, but i was learning a lot, so it was kind of worth it..
the day i said this is ENOUGH was one day i received this call from one of the biggest national beverage company, they were looking for a trade marketing assistant, i loved the brand so i thought it would be an interesting opportunity, so i asked more about the position, the girl told me that they were looking for a young girl, no older than 25 (checked), graduated from college (checked), with plans of study a master (checked), own car (at this point i was all like.. wtf), and availability to work from monday to saturday FULL TIME. i asked about the employee benefits (private insurance, discounts, cellphone, computers, etc), she asked me: well we don’t have many benefits, we only pay the public insurance (i let her know that public insurance is not a benefit, but an obligation of the employer), then I asked if they would pay the maintenance and gas for the car, the answer was no..
at this point i was raging in my head, like DUDE YOU’RE THE BIGGEST COMPANY IN THE COUNTRY AND YOU CAN’T EVEN GIVE YOUR EMPLOYEES GOOD STUFF.. but i still, politely, asked for the salary..
did you know what she told me.. the little bitch: SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS 6-0-0.. SEISCIENTOS..

I laughed at her.. I was pretty mad.. i asked her to NEVER call me back. it was an insult. seiscientos dolares, estan locos!

that day, cynthia, i just decided i wouldn’t be stressed about finding a job, i was sure i was going to find the one i needed in the perfect moment.. and it happened, i received a call from a friend who asked me to send him my resume and less than 2 weeks later (the same week the office closed) i received the official job proposal, and now, i work in one of the best international advertising agencies (f*ck YEAH!)

So, my dear friend, you need to be patient and every afternoon, instead of being sad because you have a job you don’t like.. try to concentrate in how beautiful the summer is, or the nice things about your city..

    Jogging helped me a lot!

Sorry for writing you such a long answer, but i wanted to let you know that a lot people go through the same stuff!

  2. I LOVE met my match. How much were these?

Also (((hugs))) I’m sorry the interview didn’t work out. Hopefully something will come along soon that will suit you better.

    1. I love that one too! These were $4.50 or $5.00…I can’t remember now! lol I grabbed so much stuff that I don’t even know what I paid. They aren’t super expensive, but I think they are probably sold for more at other retailers like higher end salons and stuff.

Thank you for your encouraging words regarding my interview. Something has to come along! 🙂

  3. If you got an interview at one place, it stands to reason you can get another one somewhere else. No sweat 😀

I’ve heard of MOrgan Taylor, but I think I can only purchase them online near me. I wish there were some indie or salon supply stores around here I could buy from (Sally doesn’t always cut it haha)!

    1. Thank you! In fact, I have two more interviews set up. One tomorrow and one on Friday. I just hope I don’t ruin these too! I’m trying really hard to stay positive now so I’ll just focus on that.

I am super lucky in that I have a million indie beauty supply stores in my area so I can get my hands on a lot of different things. I did see them being sold online and they are slightly cheaper online, but I think that when you factor shipping costs, they are probably around the same. I rarely go to Sally anymore–only in a pinch when I need acetone or Gelous. lol

  4. Awe, I’m so happy to hear that you read each and every email (or as much as you can). You are such an entertaining person to follow and read your blog that you brighten my day with your sarcasm & truth when I’m down. So keep blogging and tweeting away because you never know the optimism that you give someone else.

  5. Aw heck… I LOVE sublime!! In fact I made Daniel listen to the whole 40 oz album on our way to Montana. I haven’t made him listen to it on the way back yet but we still have a whole day tomorrow. It’s funny you’re just sharing these polishes cuz I saw this brand in the beauty shop in my grandmas small town and I was tempted to pick some up just to try, but the colors weren’t anything too special (the ones you picked are pretty, but nothing we haven’t seen) and at that shop they were 9 bucks! I’m glad to bear the formula is so great though cuz in the future if there’s something that looks particularly cool. Sorry about the interview but you’re right- just keep moving forward. That’s all you can do!

  6. I heart Sublime so hard. 😀 Met Your Match is probably my favorite of these three, but they are all pretty sweet looking!

And, I’m gonna keep posting this advice: just keep kickin’ ass, girl. You’ll find a fit for a job soon!

  7. I kinda really love hot hot tamale! Its so hot it’s on fire! I don’t have anything quite like that colour so it’s kwaai 😛
The Gotta have hue is also swoon worthy

  8. You know what? Change your perspective on these jobs. It isn;t a matter of do they want you. What matters is would you feel comfortable there and be relaxed, maybe even happy. Maybe this can help you sniff out the right job. It’s out there. Find it and don’t just pounce on the first one.
I think you are terrific and I would hire you in a flash. Have faith!!!

  9. That’s a cute story about Santeria. It’s funny how little things can brighten our day.
I have never heard of Morgan Taylor. Hot Hot Tamale is my favorite.
“Yes, I love this super hard.” That’s what she said.
“If a brand can’t make excellent creme polishes, I usually walk away.” This is a genius philosophy that I must steal right meow!

  10. I was laughing so hard when I read this. It must have been funny about the teenagers singing with you. Yay! I’m not the only person who loves to sing in her car at the top of my lungs. I just love to sing and I don’t care if I don’t have a great voice. I just love your blog so much more. 🙂

Those polishes are amazing. I won the Nautically Inclined polish from your giveaway and went crazy doing all kinds of research on this brand and can’t wait to get my pretty new polish and try it. The colors they offer look amazing 🙂
