Things That Bug Me

I’ve been checking out a lot of different blogs lately. I genuinely enjoy reading little snippets of people’s lives. Inevitably, we talk a lot about personal lives whether we are blogging about books, food, nail polish or any other topic. I tend to share a lot of personal stuff because I have diarrhea of the mouth…or fingers…online. I don’t overshare with people in real life because I am 100 times more guarded and like to keep my drama to myself. In looking at other blogs, mostly nail blogs, there is one thing that absolutely drives me bananas. Ok, are you ready for it? I really, really hate when people (cause I have seen a few guys running nail blogs) post nail looks or swatches and their fingers look like they accidentally went through a food processor. I’m talking about those people with hang nails the size of 2 x 4’s who don’t even bother to trim them or anything. Can you please not take a close up pictures of that? Or even worse, seeing pictures of people’s nails when it is painfully obvious that they are nail bitters and you can see the misshapen nails and even some bloody finger tips. Oh Lord…please don’t let me wander onto those blogs again. Am I being mean? I don’t think so. I know my blog isn’t perfect. Sometimes my cuticles are kinda gross but at least I try to fix them up a bit before posting pictures. Hey, maybe those people just don’t care…and that’s their right. And by the way, I used to be a prodigious nail-bitter so I know how horrible that habit is. I also used to bite and rip my cuticles until my fingers were bloody. In order to kick that nervous habit, I wore acrylic nails for about a year. It really did help because I wasn’t able to bite my nails nor my cuticles anymore.

I am also starting to hate the amount of spam comments that I get on my blog nowadays. What’s up with that? WordPress does a pretty darn good job of filtering all the rubbish out but it still annoys the crap out of me. As if I didn’t get enough spam in my email about how to enlarge my penis, buy viagra and meet singles in my area! I keep wondering how I got on those spam lists to begin with. It’s probably from watching porn…uhm, I mean make up tutorials. *cough*

So anyway, that’s just a little rant cause I can’t fall asleep.

  1. I agree about the gross nail close up pictures! Although I'm not really one to talk, since I know my nails look jacked most days, thanks to my job. But at least I clean them up as much as possible before I take pictures!

  3. I used to be a nail biter too, like BAD! It's been a year and they look healthy and pain-free. Sometimes, my cuticles look a little dry or whatever (especially my thumbs) so I either apologize and acknowledge they look less then perfect or if they are really bad I edit them out or take a picture omitting the offending finger. But I noticed this today on a blog too! I was like EWWWWW. Im glad Im not the only one!!

    1. Normal dryness and stuff is ok. I mean, I clean a lot and I hate wearing gloves so my hands do take a beating. I try to fix up my nails if I know I'll be doing swatches but some people don't seem to care. It's just kinda icky! lol Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

  4. I hope you're not talking about me! 😛 My only issues are my cuticles since they've taken a lifetime of damage from picking. I atleast clean them up for pics like you do. Thats one of the reason I started blogging was to force myself to stop with the cuticle picking! But I know what you mean, when you see close up shots of nails in really poor condition. It's ok to vent about it, it's your blog anyways!

  7. I definitely know I don't have the best cuticles, but I make damn sure to edit the crap out of them if they're particularly bad. I have really dry hands all the time and despite using lotion and cuticle cream they still aren't in the best condition, but I would never post close-ups of my hands if my cuticles / nails were that bad off. I guess some people really don't care? And it's totally okay to vent about these sorts of things. It's your blog! 🙂

    1. Thanks! I was starting to think maybe I was being mean. lol I guess as long as they're ok with it, it doesn't matter what other people think…but really gross nails give me the creeps. And from what I've seen on your blog, you always have perfect manis. Jealous!

Thanks for vising my blog and commenting. 🙂

  9. Thanks for bringing up this subject, I feel the same way. Another thing I don't understand about bloggers who post gross pictures is.. How did they get so many damn followers? Do 500+ people really enjoy looking at their pics of bloody nails? No sarcasm intended, I really want to know! I've been thinking that perhaps I'm just overly sensitive to mangled nail/cuticle pictures lol

    1. Hahaha! I know. I've been wondering that myself. Who knows how they got that many followers. but more power to them. Maybe they fit a certain niche…like Restaurant Dishwasher Nails Chic or something like that.

  10. Υοu are absolutely right. I couldn't agree more.
When someone is supossed to hold a nail blog, at least she should care about her nails.
Mine are not perfect either, and neither mine is a nail blog (though I do post about nails once in a while), but I try to make them look as good as possible.
I do have problem with the cuticles (and recently an allergy caused due to acrylic), but at least I care for their shape.

''As if I didn’t get enough spam in my email about how to enlarge my penis, buy viagra and meet singles in my area!''

Ok, you just cracked me up . lol

      1. Its the second time, actually. Depends of the acrylic (liquid? Powder? Who knows), if by accident goes a bit more to the cuticle, they are getting a bit swollen, then yellowish, and after a couple of days, very very dry/hard, and can be removed like hard pieces :S
The first time that happened, its wasn't only that, but I got little-tiny dots (like goosebumps, but harder and with rounder edges) to the surrounding area!
Maybe its just me, that's can't apply them well…

Yes, of course I would agree. Its NAILS, you have a NAIL blog, be freaking ok! Its like having a fashion blog, post pictures of skirts with unshaved legs.

  13. Ughhh these things drive me crazy too. What I really hate are people who have a nail blog and then act like they're soooo much better than everyone else. There is one in particular that I was following pretty regularly but then they were acting waaay too big for their britches and then were also pestering people on twitter with the whole "it would make my day if you followed me" kind of business. I just can't take it. We can all do our nails pretty darn well, y'know? Some of us have more money and can buy EVERY single new polish, but for the most part the blogs I follow regularly are ones that are fun to read because of the author. The author needs to take care of their nails and be personable. If your nails are completely jacked up and you take pictures using your blurry-ass super old iPhone… no thank you. I also hate when people spam my comments. Worse than the obvious spammers are the "I love your blog http://www.myblogLOOKATME.com" comments where it could be well intentioned but it's still kinda rude…. I have a hard time knowing what to do with those comments. Grr.

    1. Omg you crack me up. If someone spammed my comments, I would just erase their comments. I started this blog because a group of lovely ladies that I met on Facebook encouraged me to because we were always sharing nail polish and make up stuff with each other. Besides just putting all my nail polish obsession out there, it has also been such a great way to get my thoughts and feelings out when I would have kept them bottled up.

I appreciate all the people who come and read my crazy rants sooooooo much, but that whole "follow me and I'll follow you back" stuff is so lame. I mean, I will comment on blogs when I like them…not just to rack up followers. I've been finding so many cool blogs lately.

      1. Yeah that really turns me off. There are SOO many awesome blogs and if people like what you're doing they'll follow you. It just annoys me when people are like BEGGING for followers. More is always better but I'm not gonna beg 🙂
Let your feelings flow, girl, we love reading them!!! 😀

  15. I've lately become so enamoured of taking care of my nails properly (no, don't bite that off – learn how to care for your cuticles without drawing blood) and discovering the world of nail polish, nail polish blogs and nail polish images on google, You Tube. . . . yes, you get the point. Looking at some of the nails people photograph, I am stunned into WTF… do your eyes work? if you bite your nails – stop or hide them from people who may want to eat soon and definitely never apply any polish with a color. Nasty stuff. Also what's up with the Foo Manchu 2" nails? Look around, no one wears looong nails or white lipstick any more. This week my fav is Butter London's "All Hail The Queen" – thought it would be boring but it's really cool. The expense of acquiring collection is killing me – but I think I'l live.

    1. This whole nail thing is super addicting! I looooooooooove that butter london color…it's safe but also really unique. Do you have a favorite nail polish brand?

      1. So far I'm leaning towards Butter London, but I like OPI as well. But I hate having to $14+ on one bottle. I'm greedy. I want to find a way cheaper polish so that I can buy more. But I'm thinking that might not be the way to go. Still on a learning curve.

        1. Well, I am a huge lover of China Glaze and you can find those for under $5…even as low as $3 when you shop online. I think they have lovely collections and I really don't have complaints about the formula. I also hate paying so much for polish. I bought two holographic polishes that ended up costing around $18 a piece and that was pretty extreme for me. Since I'm nearing 400 bottles of nail polish, I have to buy smarter! lol

      2. Right now I'm still in a bit of a learning curve – which are easiest to apply, right consistancy, pickling good colors for me, and taking risks with color. So far my two best are Butter London and Zoya. I haven't found good Essie colors yet, but I thing it's a nail-friendly application. Butter London's All Hail The Queen is so far my fav – wonderful to apply and looks amazing. Never imagined I woud love brown on my nails. But I'm earning that even a good brand has differences in consistency, I have to say this learning curve is way too expensive. So addictive Before I'm even trying my newest, I already listing the ones I absolutely have to get. I've been ordering Julep as well. So far very runny, Maybe there's a special method for applying runny polishes that I need to work out.

        1. Welcome to the club! 🙂 It is soooo hard to decided what to get because there are so many amazing brands and colors out there. I think All Hail The Queen is a very classy color that could be like your signature color. To tell you the truth, I have heard tons of complaints about Julep polishes lately. I still might do one box (since they are one cent right noe) and cancel right away. I would NEVER buy them for full price at $14 each!!!! I don't think there is much you can do when a polish is runny unless you leave it open for a while so that it thickens up a little. I don't even know if that would work.

          1. My intro looked great, it wa so nice to get that sweet little box, but the polish was a great disappointment as I mentioned. The May Maven box is on it's way and I'll cancel after it arrives. Anyway, $20 is way too much to spend every month when I'm pickin' u polishes right & left. This has deffinitely GOT TO STOP!

            1. You're not going to get much support on not buying polishes from us nail fanatics. lol I'm actually not buying anything for the next month so that will be a nice break.

            1. I have no idea what to pick. I'm going to look for swatches and reviews before I decided. I don't want to get stuck with bad polishes even if they are only one cent! 🙂

              1. Actually, while they have quite an extensive line, the Maven boxes are pre-set. There are four types. You take this little funny test to figure out your type and that is what you receive. However, you are free to choose any one of the other three boxes if you like that month's contents more. Check out the boxes for May that were just sent out. The "types" are The It Girl, Soho Boho or something like that and two more.
