When the press release for the OPI Nordic Collection first came out, was I the only one wondering what was up with all the tan poopy shades? I never made it to he Nordic countries while I was living in Europe which is one thing that I always kick myself for, but hopefully I will make it to that part of the world again in the near future. I have to admit that I’m a bit confused about this collection. Maybe it’s that I don’t have too much knowledge about the countries that are being represented in this collection, but how do these colors fit? I don’t know! I decided to just sit down and swatch this collection instead of dwelling to much on it and let the polishes do the talking!
OPI Do You Have This Color In Stock-holm?
OPI Viking In A Vinter Vonderland
OPI My Voice Is A Little Norse
The formula on all of these was pretty identical across the board: creamy, easy to control and opaque at two coats. One thing I do want to stress is that I felt the polishes took a bit longer to dry so make sure that you leave plenty of time between coats. Now I’m realizing that maybe it’s the crappy weather that slowed down the drying time on the polishes. So what do I think about this collection? I am always delighted with consistency, and all of these polishes are consistently good because they applied flawlessly. I am still not entirely convinced about the actual colors and how they work together because the color palette seems a little random to me. I’d be interested in hearing from ladies from the Nordic countries these polishes are supposed to be inspired by since I’m still wondering if there really is a connection besides the pun-y names.
I really like Going My Way Or Norway? because it works as a great neutral for my skin tone. As you may have guessed, my least favorite is OPI With A Nice Finn-ish because it’s yellow gold and yellow gold is just ICK in my book. This one was a lot better than the gold from the Ford Mustang collection so at least the formula sort of saved it a bit. I was also really looking forward to playing with My Voice Is A Little Norse, and I was definitely not disappointed because it creates a really beautiful effect. As for the rest of the colors, they are very nice but nothing revolutionary. Still, there are some really amazeballs cremes here so if you don’t have similar colors, they are definitely worth picking up. What are your thoughts? Will you be purchasing any of these? The OPI Nordic Collection will be widely available in August so get your list ready! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.
This collection has an official release date of August 6, 2014 so go get it now! You can purchase the OPI Nordic Collection at the usual places that carry OPI and each polish retails for $9.50 ($11.50 CAN). For my Canadian readers, you will also be able to purchase this collection at Nail Polish Canada. Fun times! Happy shopping.
There are some odd colors for the collection. Some tans and browns make a bit of sense, maybe thinking of wooden buildings or the forests, but for a Nordic-inspired collection I’d think night skies, mountain grays, white snow, iceberg blue, seaside blues and sandy tans, maybe a shimmer for fish, a forest green, some kind of lingonberry red, and so on. Some pretty colors here, but nothing screams must-have.
I agree 100%. I would have loved to see some icy blues and some deep greens.

I think the collection as a whole is gorgeous but none of the polishes are really screaming my name.

I want Going My Way or Norway, Can’t Afjord Not To, My Dogsled is a Hybrid and… My Voice Is a Little Norse.
The only one of those four I’m iffy on is Dogsled, cuz I’m like … 60% sure I’ve dupes, somewhere, so I’ll have to beg around for some comparisons. :/
There’s a lot of deeper rich shades in this collection which is a change for the season right now. I’m really liking the brighter more colorful ones in here though.

Seems like an odd collection to me and nothing that stands out as being so unique or having a wow factor except maybe My Voice Is A Little Norse. I do want to buy the My Voice Is A Little Norse and Viking In A Vinter Vonderland.
I’m from Sweden, and I don’t see the connection between these colors and the Nordic countrys either. Perhaps “My Voice Is A Little Norse” could remind me of our long, dark and snowy winters. But I have no idea what all those tan shades are doing there, or the peach and pink. However, nordic or not I’m not a big fan of this collection. Beautiful swatches though. 🙂
Well, I heard from OPI that many of the colors represent cinnamon and other spices used in the baked goods of the North. It seems a bit odd considering we have amazing nature here and it feels such a waste OPI didn’t incorporate that into this collection. I’m Finnish and you can probably imagine my disappointment when I saw Finland’s own polish……jeesh. With a country of thousand lakes, vast forests and all sorts of berries etc I thought OPI would’ve come up with something better than a brush-strokey gold 😀
However I like many of these shades and being a sucker for good cremes I will be picking many of these up. My faves so far are How Great Is Your Dane and My Dogsled is a Hybrid. Beautiful swatches 🙂

I’m a little bit underwhelmed by this. I do like the darker colors, but probably not enough to buy them. Lovely swatches!
Okay… where are the icy blues? Or icy whites?
I won’t be running out to purchase these colors.

I might pick up Do You Have This Color in Stock-holm and My Dogsled is a Hybrid. Is that shimmer I see in Thank Glogg It’s Friday? I think I may have dupes for these though if I shop my stash. None of these is really groundbreaking.
Meh, disappointed. Wish there would have been more blues, whites and what about multicolored to represent the beautiful northern light? I honestly do not see the logica in the choice of colors either. I’ll pass on this collection and go for the Coca Cola collection, that collection is spot on 🙂
I hate brown nail polishes.. They hate me too, cause they look awful on my skin LOL
Well. I was for some reason kind of looking forward to this collection and…now I am pretty thoroughly not, lol. I may cave on the glitter, but other than that…eh. The whole thing seems disjointed and flat. And, oh, my word, those two poopy browns and the gold…bye, Felicia!!!
It’s been interesting to read what your readers from Nordic countries think, though.
The pink is a really odd addition to the others. I love autumn colours so will probably pick up most of these. The glitter is same old-same old, meh.
San francisco collection are you back?!
I’ve seen almost all the colors so many times before..
Tbh, idk it is because i was an immigrant.. But some colors do remind me of some nordic countries.. Some of them because of rhe food and the orange one was pretty obvious.
If i was going or planning to purchase some, maybe the first 3 you swatched.
I’m from Sweden and I really don’t know what these tan colors are doing in this collection either..I feel like some dark forest green and icy blue/silver would fit better instead. Your swatches are great though, as usual!
