Nubar Absolute

I was looking through my melmers today trying to decide what other polishes to put up on my blog sale (yes, go check out my blog sale now!), and I ran across Nubar Absolute. Believe it or not, I didn’t even realize I had this lovely polish and was shocked that I hadn’t worn it before. I had to remedy that immediately. This is the manicure I did today:

Nubar Absolute Konad M3

Read below to see what I used for this look.

Nubar Absolute comes from the fantastic Prisms Collection from 2010 which predates my polish obsession. Thankfully, I was able to find some of these locally so I snatched them up. I absolutely love this polish, but I do have some beef with it: it is super SUPER sheer. I had to apply 4 coats because I still had VNL at 3 coats.  I found that because the polish is so sheer and the holo pigment particles are so fine, this polish dries very quickly. Absolute looks pretty but not that spectacular in regular light, but boy did it blow me away once I went out and it caught the sunlight…it really shines. Despite having to apply 4 coats, I still love how beautiful and delicate this polish is.

I’ve been all about stamping lately so I pulled out Konad plate M3 and used two designs for the stars. I don’t know about you, but stamping is not as easy as some people make it out to be. It takes time to get the hang of it so I don’t now why I’ve been seeing people say that stamping is “cheating.” I’m a stamper at heart because it was the first “nail art” I ever did when I first became obsessed with nail polish. I really like how this turned out–especially because the stamp didn’t cover up much of the lovely base polish.

What do you think about Nubar Absolute? Are you a Nubar fan? Let me know what you think!

  1. What a lovely colour! And the stamping is nice too!

I don’t know why people think stamping is cheating – we’re not all Robin Moses! A stamped design isn’t any less nail art just because its not hand drawn. I love stamping, I just wish I was better at it!

    1. Thank you! Someone on a nail board told me that she would be more impressed if I had hand drawn the designs yet she said she had never stamped before. lol I love stamping…it’s such a fun way to take a mani to the next level.

  2. Who says stamping is cheating? Staple their mouths closed! We don’t all have steady hands or artistic ability, but we can still be creative! Love these by the way!

    1. Hehe…thanks. It was just some random person who said something about it to me but it’s ok. It didn’t bother me since apparently she has never done stamping so I don’t see how she could say that. I am seriously in love with this polish and now I want the whole collection. I have two others but there are 8 in total, I think.

  3. I’m not a big blue polish fan, but this color is gorgeous. I like the holo..looks like it would sparkle in certain lights. I wonder if I could find this polish? Is it difficult to remove like most glitter polishes?

I really like the stamping on this mani because you didn’t cover the entire nail.

    1. I love it because it’s so different and delicate. It does shine in bright light…especially sunlight. It’s been raining here so there wasn’t much sunlight out today but I ran outside when the sun came out for 5 minutes and it was worth it!!! I don’t know of many places that sell Nubar in retail locations. I know Nubar still has it in stock on their website. I might be able to find another one at my dusties so let me know if you want me to check the next time I go.

Since this is a holo, it removes just like a creme polish. It is not gritty at all like glitter.

  4. Well I also disagree with the “stamping is cheating”, as I have done it and it is a learned art. You are right in the placement taking some skill and then there is the matter of choosing the right combo of colors, and designs and many factors in getting a good stamped nail art. I love this polish, it looks the color of a pair of favorite blue jeans that you have had for years. I can’t pass by a good holo!

    1. That is such a great way to describe this polish!! There is nothing better than a good broken in pair of jeans. 🙂 I’m glad not everyone thinks stamping is easy!

  5. I don’t know nubar but I know that I LOVE these nails!
It doesn’t even look real, it’s like it’s from a magazine. I can’t get over it… It’s just too stunning! I love it!!
I love the nubar, i love the STARS (coz I’m a star fan and collect all things stars so) and it’s just fab!!!

    1. I am a huge nubar fan but not a lot of people seem to know their products. I think they are kind of difficult to get unless you buy them online. I am seriously obsessed with this polish now that I actually wore it. It’s so pretty.

Thank you for all the compliments. 🙂

  6. I, obviously, am a big fan of stamping. It’s creative and artistic because you decide the colors and how to use it. Also, no matter how well you free hand something to me stamping always looks cleaner and like just more perfectly symmetrical which is a big deal to me. Yay for stepping up about stamping! Haha. I’m tired of the anti stamping bullies ( ;D ) This color is super pretty, too btw and I want that stamp. I love stars and don’t really have any good star plates. I’ll have to see about getting this one after I see my cheeky plates. 🙂

    1. LOL @ anti-stamping bullies. Let’s start a movement “no h8 on stamping” hahaha 😛 I really like how this turned out in all honesty. I am in love with this polish after having worn it but I don’t think all the polishes in this collection are the same. The other two that I have are super gritty and are a pain in the ass to remove. I think I got this plate on amazon for like $3 so it was pretty cheap.

  7. Very pretty color! I wonder if you can put a holo over a color to help with the sheerness? Maybe not if you’re not supposed to use basecoat. I guess if it dries quickly enough, that helps offset the extra coat(s).
I like the stamping…I mean, how can I hate on stars? I do not think stamping is cheating because I think there are a lot of factors to consider to make the stamping successful (color combination, what color works for stamping, placement, etc.). I think it is a helpful tool for doing designs, especially when you have to use your non-dominant hand. I need to work on roughing up my stamper’s surface, I think…I have a hard time getting the designs to transfer from the plate to the stamp.

    1. I think you probably can. I’m actually going to try it and I’ll report back. Speaking of stamping, someone on reddit just left a comment on my jackson pollock nails and said “I was excited until I saw you used a stamp…” but she said she was trying not to spend on other supplies. Stamping just doesn’t get much love out there but I know how hard it can be. What kind of stamper do you have that doesn’t transfer well?

      1. Ooh, ouch! Hopefully she meant because she’s bummed because she can’t buy stuff and not because she’s a stamp hater. That’s what it sounds like (the former, I mean, not the latter).
The Konad one! Just the “traditional” pink plastic double-sided stamper (or at least I think that is the basic one). I went on Amazon once and got that (w/the scraper, which I don’t like), black & white Konad polishes, & some plates. Just haven’t quite gotten the hang of it all together…it’s mostly a time issue.
