China Glaze Paint It Black Collection – Halloween 2018

I don’t know what’s going on with me lately, but I feel like I’ve been obnoxiously grumpy. I don’t know if it’s work, personal stuff or just me being a little extra. This past weekend was pretty chill and I took some time to do some cleaning because it’s been crazy dusty due to some work that is being done outside. Maybe that’s the culprit! All the constant noise outside has really been driving me nuts. Anyway, I hope I can improve my mindset pronto. Today I have the China Glaze Paint It Black Collection to share with you which is their Halloween offering. Let’s take a look below.

I am always excited to see what China Glaze has in store for us each Halloween and I’ve got to say I’m feeling a little meh this year. There are three shades that I really like: Maliboo-boo, Ash & Burn and Wicked Liquid.  If you’re looking for a nice black holo (albeit a little weak in the holo department), Maliboo-boo is a good option. The formula is really nice and easy to work with. Wicked Liquid is one of those ugly/pretty colors and the formula is ok. I found that I had to work quick or else it got gummy. It’s super pigmented so I only applied 1 coat. I should have worn a good ridge filling base coat or applied a second coat because every.single.ridge.is.showing.up. Ash & Burn is just pretty to me and has a nice contrast. Now for the three shades that I didn’t like: Night and Slay is a nice glitter topper. I didn’t dislike it, but there is nothing unique or fun about it. Pret-A-Potion is not my cup of tea. On its own it looks like a fungus on my nails. Layered on top of a black polish, it just disappears. I didn’t like it enough to layer it on top of a contrasting color. Lastly, we have Shadies & Gentlemen; why does China Glaze continue to do these matte polishes? They always look ghastly because the formula dries too fast and they never look smooth. Liking three out of six isn’t bad, but I still disappointed with the collection overall. I’ve put it up on my blog sale in case you’re interested.

So what do you think about this collection? I’m interesting in hearing if you like any of these. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.

  1. My three picks were the same as yours! I don’t know if I really need these or not though as nothing really grabs me and says it has to be on my nails.

  2. Malibu-Boo and Wicked Liquid are the best in the collection! I would definitely purchase both of them.

  3. Hi Cynthia, while your swatches of this collection are gorgeous, as always, overall I think these polishes are ONE HOT MESS. I just haven’t seen or watched coverage of these that doesn’t make me simply gag with disgust! Honestly, I love nail polish and try to never really say anything mean-spirited or troll-like about brands, but these are just… horrible. Poor formulas, ugly colors, chunky glitter, ugh! I know there are people out there who will love these, but I have stopped wasting my money on China Glaze. On a positive note, I did hear that the company has changed its brush to easier-to-use wider bristles, and CG certainly gets an A+ for attempting to be creative!!
