Barielle – First Impressions

Barielle is not a brand that I’ve ever had easy access to so it’s not a big surprise that I hadn’t used any of their products yet. When I stopped at TJ Maxx the other day to scope out their cosmetics section hoping to find some Deborah Lippmanns (is this just an urban legend??), I was pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of Barielle sets so I didn’t hesitate a second and bought one. Out of all the sets I saw, these dark vampy colors seemed the most interesting especially because I spotted a few cremes in the set and we all know how I feel about cremes.

REMEMBER ME

FRIDAY NITE PARTI

BLACK ROSE

MYSTERY WOMAN

HIDDEN HIDEAWAY

I really do like these colors especially Hidden Hideaway and Mystery Woman because of that beautiful lit-from-within shimmer. I think that Remember Me and Friday Nite Parti are way too similar to be together in a set, but both colors are nice. Remember Me was probably the only one I didn’t appreciate as far as the formula is concerned. It seemed really sheer despite how dark the color is. You can see in my pictures that it looks somewhat streaky and uneven which I did not notice until I uploaded the pictures.  In case you’re interested, I got this set for $9.99 so check out your TJ Maxx. They had tons of these and other sets. I know stock varies from store to store but I think these are worth a look.

And for my food chronicles, today I decided to make some chicken strips and Rice-a-Roni. I had seriously been craving potato salad, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of time to make such a small amount so I bought a little side container of it from Sprouts. I love Sprouts!

I’m getting really pumped for some interviews next week so I have to do some boring nail look…can’t go in there with some sparkly stamped up nails…or maybe I can! I am happy to report that I have seen some slight nail growth and that makes me really happy. I ordered the latest MASH plates today because I found a 20% off code online which made them around $11 and they ship for free! I hope that by the time they get here, my nails won’t be so crazy short anymore so I can really try out my new plates!

I hope you have a lovely weekend and thanks for the visit.

  1. I'm loving Black Rose, Mystery Woman and Hidden Hideaway. Good luck on your interviews next week….I know you're going to ace them. =)

  2. I like Black Rose and Mystery Woman the most. Good luck on your interviews! Do you have Sinful Colors Social Ladder? I think that is a nice shade for an interview.

    1. No, I don't have that one. What kind of color is it? I was thinking of doing just a nude color or maybe even a french manicure which I never really do. It just looks kind of put together and clean. I don't know if it's just me, but french manicures don't last on me at all!

      1. It's a sheer pinky-white base with shimmer. Not too over the top. French manicures don't last on me either.

  3. I've always thought of Barielle as a nail treatment company, I thought they left the "coloring" to other comapnies. Silly me. 🙂
At first glance of your swatches I thought you were givng us 2 sets of the same color which I thought was strange because the colors aren't that unique.
Being a purple fanatic, I really like Mystery Woman. Black Rose is a nice vampy color, but I doubt if I could pull it off; dark colors do not usually look good on me. Now later today I will have to check out Marshalls and TJ Maxx for Barielle polish sets..such an enabler Cynthia!! 🙂

Yay for the upcoming interviews!!! Please keep us posted on how they go.

    1. Since I don't have a middle name, I think Enabler could be it. lol I did like these polishes but this set was too "one note" I realize they are all supposed to be dark and rich colors like a bold wine, but still!

I am excited about the interviews…who know what will come of them but I am so ready to go back to work. 🙂

  4. The Deborah Lippmanns are not an urban legend! I picked up three for myself along with an Essie about two or three weeks ago. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they were gone by now. These are lovely though! I might have to go scope them out myself.

    1. Wow! What kind of colors were the DL’s? I have only 4 of her polishes that I got on clearance…it is painful to pay full price even if they are pretty. I haven’t seen any DL and I’ve gone to maybe 4-5 different stores. I guess you’re right: they probably flew off the shelves.

Oh yes…definitely go look at the Barielle sets. I think there were 3-4 different sets but some of them were so boring (french manicure sets…yawn)

  7. I only that's two Barielles, Elle's Spell and Buddah-ful. I got them on Hautelook. Otherwise I've never been really impressed with what Barielle puts out, all their shades are so …safe.

Also, your chicken strips look delicious.

    1. All I had seen from Barielle were the french manicure sets which I will never buy so I also had them pegged as safe. This set is pretty bold so now I'm wondering if they regularly put out darker vampy colors. I do like this set but I wish there was more variety in the shades.

I'm going to have to check into hautelook again. I haven't purchased anything from them in eons!

  9. I saw a set of blue Barielle polishes in my local TK Maxx (for some reason in England it's called TK Maxx rather than TJ Maxx!) but talked myself out of buying them…now I really wish I'd got them! I'm with you on liking Hideaway and Mystery Woman best from this set – anything purple gets my vote. XD

    Congratulations on going .com!

    1. Blue!!! I would have jumped on that immediately. I want to go back and see if I find any other bold sets. Purple is my favorite color too!

Going .com was a little stressful just because I had no idea what I was doing…now I just have to figure out what layout makes me happiest. The one I'm using now is ok but I'm not sure I like it. I'm just happy I got it figured out. 🙂

  10. Nice vampy, shiny shades! You're right though, a few are a tad too close in color to sell in the same set. But still, these are great classics! Good buy for 10 dollars though!

Can you share more about the interviews? I'm curious. Interviews terrify me so much. For my last interview, I made cheat sheets, notes, printed off two sets of directions in case the highway was closed… I was so prepared I almost overwhelmed myself. I feel like interviewers can see through your soul…

    1. I don't know if I'm the best person to ask because I am like an interview savant. I don't know what it is, but I can read people so well when it comes to interviews so I always say the right thing. It's a gift, I think. At my last job, I probably interviewed more people than I would ever want to in a whole lifetime so I feel pretty confident being on both sides. Maybe now I'm just being over confident and I will bomb all my interviews. lol I always make sure to research the company a bit and have at least 2 questions of substance that makes them know I'm serious about the job. Nothing was worse than interviewing someone who had no questions at all and who didn't know anything about the company. You would think this is common sense, but people would come in an trash talk their previous employer or talk about how they didn't get along with people at their past job. Seriously? And why would I want to bring that on board to my team? lol One time, I had a girl who emailed me to reschedule her interview (5 minutes before it was supposed to start) because she got her period and hadn't slept well. I am not kidding. When I told her that was not possible (I had all my interviews scheduled and I was way too busy), she got mad and started emailing me how she was happy I didn't waste her time since my company treated prospective employees so poorly. Yeah, that's helping your case. haha I think interviews are all about acting. Seriously. I am not saying you need to lie, but you have to put on a show to convince them you will be a good employee. I have always been very serious about my work no matter what it is. I don't understand people who work so hard to do nothing at work. I think this would be a good series of posts! 🙂

  11. are you going on a interview, or you have to interview people? I've been interviewing people to work with me..! I'm happy that I'm growing in the company, but can you believe that yesterday two people cancelled on me, half an hour later that we were supposed to met.. same as you I told them they cannot come because I was in a tight schedule, but I told them I'll keep their CVs just in case..

BTW, I love this new color on your blog and I loved the black rose, was my favorite swatch!!

    1. I am being interviewed. Since my last job had a huge part in causing my nervous breakdown last year, I want to find something that won't be in the same industry. I don't really know what I want to do…maybe I will make a complete 180 and find something I never thought I would like.

I hated interviewing people because most are clueless. I seriously wondered how some of these people even survived in life with the kind of stunts they would pull.

Good luck with finding good people! That's always the hardest.

  14. I have this kit in my cart/wishlist @ nailsuppliesus and debating; Thanks for the blogpost It’s a GO! nicce post/mani. The food was a excellent finish* drools*

    1. As Dominique said earlier, I think my middle name should be "Enabler" 🙂 I am going to have to check out that website. Do they have decent prices? Have you ordered from them before?

  18. I usually like these types of vampy colors, but I'm a little 'meh' on this. I like Black Rose & Mystery Woman.
There is a Sprouts in town and I have not tried it, but I don't know why! Here you go influencing my dietary choices again!
Your new layout is the exact colors of the logo of the laser our company has, so it is MESSING with my head. "Laser?…no, nail polish?…no…wait…"
Good luck on your interviews! Boo to safe interview nails, but it is a necessity and will be worth it in the long run!

    1. LOL!!! Laser, nails, laser…whaaaaa?

I am still not super happy with this new layout but maybe it will grow on me. Maybe down the line I can get someone to work on a new layout for me.

Ahhh…work rearing its ugly not nail friendly head. 🙁

  20. My downtown Marshalls FINALLY had this collection and I snagged the only one!! My box is totally different from yours, but all the same polishes. There was also a collection of reds and the usual french manicure set that I passed up. This collection is so perfect for fall.

    1. Oh, great! I am kicking myself because I passed up on this blue collection that they had and now I can't find it anywhere. 🙁 When I came home, I googled swatches and the colors were so pretty. They had tons of the red and french collections too. I bought another one that is very work appropriate but haven't tried them yet.
