OPI Gargantuan Green Grape

After yesterday’s disgusting turn (sorry if I offend your eyes), I wanted something that was clean, crisp and smooth so that is how I ended up picking today’s polish. I completely overslept today and now I’m feeling like I got run over by a truck. I am also going to have a hell of a time trying to fall asleep early tonight so that I can wake up at dawn to go to work. Holy shitballs this sucks. Oh well, such is life! Sooo…back to the polish. I’ve had OPI Gargantuan Green Grape for a while but I hadn’t used it, and I have no idea why because it’s such a cool color. To be honest, the first time I grabbed it, I was attracted by the name. Being a complete lit freak, I just kept thinking of Rabelais’ Gargantua novels which was a series I loved reading when I was taking some hardcore French lit classes. How could I not like them? Satire and scatological humor galore! Before I get too off track, let’s look at my swatches, shall we?

OPI Gargantuan Green Grape 1aOPI Gargantuan Green Grape 2Isn’t this color just deliciously creamy? It made me think of pistachio gelato! I’m sad to report that the formula is not as wonderful as the finished result because it is fairly thin. Because of this, it applies super streaky so I do want to warn you that you will need multiple coats to even this out. When I saw how thin the formula was, I decided to apply very thin coats to minimize any dragging and bald spots so I ended up with 4 thin coats. Despite this, I still very much like this color and I can see myself wearing this for Spring.

What do you think of this color? If you like the color, are you willing to deal with a sort of difficult formula? I wanted to mention that I really enjoyed all of your comments and thoughts on the Crinkled Chrome polish that I posted yesterday. At least I know I’m not alone in my hate for that polish. Ha! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and we’ll talk soon!

  1. I must admit that yesterday polish, the CG crinkled was atrocious. Well thanks to your post, I will stay away from it ank keep my hard-earned money for a more beautiful collection. What were they thinking?

    1. Thanks, Rebecca! I don’t think that I wear certain polishes a lot just because I swatch so much that I just don’t get the chance to wear the same thing often.

  2. I love a good palate cleanser, and this is perfect after yesterday. πŸ™‚ I am so cranky if I don’t get enough sleep but I also can’t nap during the day because I wake up feeling like I’m going to puke all over. So by the end of the day I’m pretty b*tchy. LOL. So hopefully you can get some rest! πŸ™‚

    1. Don’t say that! I can’t be bitchy at work. lol I do think I’m fairly grumpy when I have to deal with a customer at 5 am who is being ridiculous…but that’s when I have to pull myself together and fake it! πŸ™‚

    1. That happens! Sometimes when I get really crappy polishes, I just feel like hating anything similar. I really like this polish–just wish it wasn’t so finicky.

  3. Oh I have this one in my untrieds. I love the color and especially the name. I’m glad you warned me about the thin formula so I won’t be disappointed when I use it. That looks lovely on you, I hope it looks half as good on me.

    1. Isn’t it crazy how many untrieds we tend to accumulate. I am vowing to make a dent on my untrieds collection so I’m glad I finally tried this one out. I wish the formula was more opaque, but it is what it is.

  4. I like it on you, I wouldn’t pick up that bottle on my own…but since you say thin formula and 4 costs, that’d be a nope from me. I’d deal with formula issues in some colors, but not this minty color…

    1. Four coats is usually a no for me as well, but I think I was already expecting that from this color. Maybe I’ve been more lenient on difficult polishes lately. hehe

  5. I happen to have this color and I think it may have warped or I just got a defective bottle because the swatches that I’ve seen and even the name “… green grape” are completely opposite of the light blue foluma in my bottle. Weird. I have yet to try it.

    1. I’ve heard that from a few people already. So weird! I do wonder if maybe the polish kind of changed in the bottle or if there are two version of it like My Private Jet.

  6. I love this colour!! My first thought was also of pistachio ice cream πŸ™‚ I think I could deal with the formula for such a lovely polish, I don’t have anything like this one already so may have to pick it up if I can find it!

  7. Despite being four coats (and sounding like the formula would drive me nuts), this looks so pretty! I had this in my hand at one of the pagoda stores (the crowded one), but I passed. I know there are two versions of this color (not sure if that’s intentional or what), but I think this is the one I was looking at.
It for some reason reminds me of Shrek…less sophisticated than French literature, hahaha.

    1. Oh man, I haven’t gone to the pagoda store in forever. They annoyed me the last time I was there so I’m going to try to be monogamous in my polish store patronage. I read on another blog that there are in fact two versions of this–the lighter blue one which was a mistake and this one. I like this one better.
