Julep Abbie

Well, here I am ready to show you another yellow polish. I figured that the start of the work week deserved a little brightness–even if it just on my nails.  I am sure that I’ve mentioned the fact that I am super obsessed with yellow nail polish lately so I was super excited to see Julep Abbie when I was perusing their site. I have this love/hate relationship with yellow nail polish because I adore how it looks on my dark skin, but I also dread the application issues. It is very rare to find a yellow polish that doesn’t go on streaky so if you do find one, hold on to it…cherish it and build it its own shrine. Let’s get down to it: Did Julep Abbie break my yellow-loving heart? Look at the swatches before reading about my thoughts.

I love the finished look of Abbie. I did not, however, love the application process. After I applied the first coat, I knew that I was in for some work because it was streak-a-rrific. I then decided that my best plan of attack would be to apply super thin coats which is how I ended up with 4 thin coats for the swatches above. I know “nobody got time fo’ dat” but sometimes you really have to work with a polish color that you love. And now here comes the bad news: this polish stains horribly. I mean, like your nails look diseased bad. My nails were super yellow when I removed this polish which was a total bummer. I used pure acetone for removal and the staining did not go away until I lightly buffed my nails. The next time I wear this polish, I’m going to have to double up on my base coat. I wish I didn’t love this yellow so much because the application was kind of problematic!!

This polish is part of Julep’s April Brights Collection and came in the April It Girl Box. Have you checked out Julep yet? I personally love their boxes and I also want to share that my friend, Sarah, just won those mythical $500 Visa Cards in her mystery box. Congrats, Sarah!!!! If you’re interested in becoming a Julep Maven for just a penny, don’t forget to use my referral link here and enter the code JULEPVIP. You really can’t beat this offer–nail polish for one cent? Yes, please!

And now for some awesome news: I just got the news that I won a set of the Zoya Summer PixieDust polishes from a giveaway over at All Lacquered Up. I am so excited!!! Can’t wait to get them. This actually made me feel better after a completely miserable day at work. I actually woke up with a headache this morning and I still have it now despite taking a crapton of Advil. I think that I need to go to bed extra early tonight and just hope that I feel better tomorrow. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

  1. You are so dang lucky!

I love yellow polishes on my toes, but I absolutely loathe how they look on my fingers. I dunno what it is, but oh well. I like this yellow, but I think I already have a yellow (Lightening from Sally Hansen maybe?) that is hard to work with and streaky. 😛

  2. you’re so lucky.. te envidio!!

regarding the fact the polish stained your nails, i received the boho glam box (i know it is NOT my type of colors i forgot to swap) and i used lena (the teal one) which i loved because it has this tiny beautiful golden shimmer.. the smell was strong and my nails. gosh my nails are all yellow now.. you can notice in the picture my dog was eating “paleta de limón”..
maybe is something in the formula of this specific collection, because i used a milani hd 3d on two nails, and they didn’t stain my nails.

i loved this yellow polish.. it makes me wanna wear it every day.. and you’re so luckyy..!!!

  3. Woohoo 🙂 Thanks for the shoutout! Those GC’s won’t last long! I went crazy and bought a new vacuum. And this color looks great on you, but my pasty reddish skin would clash so badly! You already know how I feel about that 4 coats too 😉

  4. I am a Maven too, although I only got the first, free box because I can’t afford it monthly right now, but I hope I can choose not to skip one day xD

As for yellow, I’m not a huge fan, except of pale, banana yellows. I have super light skin, so bright yellow doesn’t do much for me :p

  5. ARG theres nothing worse than putting on so many coats and then finding it stains. I liked Golden olive that Mom got on sale so I tried it out, three thin coats… stains like a mutha! It’s just heartbreaking!
However this colour does rock on you Cyth!!! 😀

  6. Wow!! Lucky for your friend! That’s awesome!! And man this is a pretty color but why are yellows so awful??? I don’t understand. I have plenty of great whites, nudes, light pinks, oranges and then yellows are just like the bane of my nail polish existence. I love them so much why don’t they love me back!!!??? Anyway this looks great but I can’t stand a super crappy formula. 🙁 I hope lots of people sign up for julep so you can use all your referral points. Ha. Also- someone was telling me that all their julep polishes separated really bad (like each into 3 colors) but I haven’t noticed that with mine. Have you?

  7. Well, this does look fantastic on you, but the major layering required (2 coats of base coat & 4 layers of color?) is a total drag (HA! I’m here all week), and so is the staining aspect.
Congratulations on winning the Zoyas! That’s great! 🙂
