Vintage Polish – China Glaze Classic Chromes

I don’t think that I’m the only one who gets obsessed with collecting really old polishes, so when I see some oldies I sometimes grab them even if I don’t care too much for the color or finish. That is how I ended up with 8 polishes from the China Glaze Classic Chromes Collection. I kind of hare chrome polishes, but I just couldn’t pass these up. Unconfirmed information online dates this collection back to 2001 but you just never know. I wish China Glaze could help us identify some of these older polishes but apparently they can’t. Anywho, I don’t even have the name of this polish since none of them are labeled. Let me show you the old school bottle for today’s Vintage Polish Friday!

DSCN5957Don’t you just love the different bottle? I do! I think that’s probably the main reason why I got this and all of its little friends. Now let me show you what it actually looks like:

DSCN5941DSCN5945DSCN5953This is a chrome polish which automatically means that it will be streaky and will show every imperfection on your nails. The actual polish is really smelly and it is super watery. I flooded my cuticles big time and it was almost impossible to clean it up properly–you can see some of the silvery pigment all around my cuticles in my pictures. Since the formula is so thin, I had to apply 3 coats to achieve full opacity.

Well, what do you think about this polish? If you saw it somewhere for sale, would you pick it up? While it’s not a polish that i would choose to wear, I don’t regret buying it because it’s such a collector’s item. Or maybe I’m just a hoarder. Who knows?! Anyway, thanks so much for the visit and I will talk to you soon.

    1. I really don’t like chrome finishes, but I just wanted it because of the old school bottle. I bought like 9 of them just for the bottle. lol

    1. I’ve also read of people sponging on the last coat of chrome polish and reportedly have no streaks. I guess if i liked the finish I would take these extra steps but NOPE. lol

  1. well that’s a funny coincidence, I was just looking for chrome nail polish earlier today and then I just saw this post in my email 🙂 this one reminds me a little bit of the Sally Hansen Chrome polishes but this one screams “frost” to me and not so much chrome.

    1. My lighting makes it look a little more frosty. In person, it’s definitely a chrome. I never got a chance to try the SH chrome polishes–maybe I can still pick one up just to try out.

  2. That’s very pretty. It’s a cross between lavendar and rose. I like the finish I just wish it weren’t so brushstokey. I’d totally buy that if ran across it, but I am a confirmed polish hoarder.

    1. Hahaha! I only bought it because of the bottle and because I am a hoarder as well. It’s an interesting color but I also dislike the finish.

  3. I feel like I’ve totally looked up the Classic Chromes for you before in the past! I found names of the entire collection but there isn’t any descriptions of what color could go to what name, which is ridiculous. Also, what’s up with them not being able to help identify their own polishes?! Poppycock on them!
I probably wouldn’t pick this up in the store because it’s just too…chrome for me.

    1. Yeah! I think we found the list on the china glaze wiki page but there is like no way to match them up to the name. I guess China Glaze didn’t keep good records or the company changed hands or something. Suck for us vintage polish lovers.
