The Lacquer Ring – Orange

Who would have thought that orange would become my mortal enemy in the span of one day? I remember how excited I was when Tangerine Tango was the Pantone Color of the Year, and I reveled in wearing every single orange polish that Summer and was in love with all of them. Today–not so much. For our very first “official” post, Nicole chose the color Orange and little did I know that this would become the day I officially swore off orange…at least until the next awesome orange polish comes around because we all know what that is like. Before I tell you all about my fails and flails, let me show you the mani I ended up choosing at the least hideous of the bunch.

NARS Ethno Run Left 1NARS Ethno Run Left 2This is NARS Ethno Run Left–a yellow orange that is super bright and squishy looking. I quite like this color, but it’s a beotch to photograph.

Shimmer Alice 1Shimmer Alice 2I then had to sparkle it up so I applied one coat of Shimmer Polish Alice to really make the polish shine. I love this glitter so much!

Bourjois Grenadine Tonic 1Bourjois Grenadine Tonic 2And because I can never leave well enough alone, I used Bourjois Grenadine Tonic to make a jelly sandwich. The bright red orange tint of this polish intensified the orange base color so I kind of liked the end result. It’s super bright, and I can tell you that it looks fantastic out in sunlight.

Now for the ones that didn’t quite make it…the first two are swatches so it’s not like there is anything wrong with them, it’s what happened to them after they were swatched that became the problem.

As I said, the previous two polishes were nice enough, but this is where things started going downhill…very quickly.

Fail 1Fail #1 was this sloppy and gross water marble. Seriously. It’s disgusting and you can’t even imagine how long it took me do create this monstrosity. I hate it so hard.

Fail 2Fail #2 was even more difficult to deal with because it took even longer to create than the sloppy water marble. I don’t know what I was thinking, but this looks disgusting too. My nail mojo was off today. Big time. After those two fugly bombs, I was ready to give up…

Someone+please+tell+me+this+is+fake+_c209d92cfe70c016f8a93373a1975f8dPuck knows how I was feeling for sure. I am just glad that I was able to put something together that didn’t make me want to stab my eyes out with a glass nail file. The next challenge will be cherry blossoms which I know is going to destroy me since I suck at freehand designs. I kind of hate Nicole right now…lol (I kid! I kid!) Make sure that you check out the other orange inspired looks from the other ladies. Thanks so much for stopping by today and checking in with The Lacquer Ring! I’ll talk to you soon.

  1. While the marble mani kind of reminds me of a cremesicle, I actually really like the quilt pattern one! I’m not sure why you didn’t care for it :3

As for the NARS polish, it’s gorgeous!

    1. I was totally thinking about creamsicles! I love those things–this mani, not so much. I think the quilt one just looked too messy for me. The mani I took inspiration from was so flawless that I knew no matter what I did, I wasn’t going to like it. Womp, womp. I can agree with you on the NARS–it’s pretty fabulous. πŸ™‚

  2. Girl you are always so hard on yourself!! Your “fails” are 10x better than any nail art I could attempt to do!

    1. I have you to blame for this mental anguish! lol I’ve already started messing around with the idea of cherry blossoms, and it’s not going well. I tried out the design on a nail wheel and I threw it away–after I set it on fire. Let’s see what happens cause I guess that’s half the fun.

  3. I love love love this jelly sandwich look! I am seriously wishing I had those colours so I could recreate this look right now! I may have to try out something similar with my only jelly polish which is pink πŸ™‚ I just can’t help but think ahead to the glitter removal stage…euch! Haha

    1. LOL! I know what you mean because I was dreading removal too. However, I just let the acetone soak a little longer and the removal wasn’t bad. I think I like this jelly sandwich because it ended up looking so juicy.

  4. That gif cracked me up so hard – but to me the water marble looked really good and I even sort of liked the other pattern (if there were nearly flat rhinestones out there I’d be using them all the time). I’m hyper-critical when I do my own nails but my water marbles don’t usually look that good so harumph!

    1. I think that I only liked one of my nails in the water marble design–the others were just all over the place. I also think that the choice of colors wasn’t that great. I need to practice the technique a lot more before I feel comfortable with it. I also have to pick better more contrasting colors next time.

  5. I really like all of the looks! I agree with the creamsicle comment! I wonder if you had a picture in your mind ff what they would look like and they didn’t end up matching that picture … because to us they aren’t fails : )

    1. Yes! That is one of the big problems. 1) I saw something similar elsewhere and it looked flawless while mine looked like a 2 year old did it. 2) I didn’t think about the colors with the water marble–I needed more contrast. Still, I just wasn’t happy with them. But hey, at least I got practice.

  6. I love orange polish – the Nars is gorgeous!!! And I love your water marble look. – love!

  7. You are so adorable. I laughed out loud and my husband asked what was so funny. Everything looks beautiful to me. Uniformity isn’t necessarily necessary!!!
I love reading what you have to say.

  8. “I tried out the design on a nail wheel and I threw it away–after I set it on fire.” Literally LOLing.
I do like your “chosen” mani the best. I like that orange the best on you (those oranges look so bad on me, damnit) and our manis were pretty similar…jelly sandwiches with gold glitter! So, of course I like it, lol.
I don’t see the insane fails that you see with the other two, but I’m not going to aover it, lol. I think I prefer the water marble over the quilted design, but they both look like completely viable, non-disgusting options, in my opinion, hahaha.

    1. They just look gross to me especially after all the time I spent on them. Let’s see if the twinsie thing keeps happening. hahaha I want to get a head start but don’t know what the prompts will be.
