The Lacquer Ring – Holographic Blue

The Lacquer Ring – Holographic Blue

Sometimes I get nostalgic about brands or polishes that are no longer around, so when I was riffling through my melmers, I started going through my Sephora by OPI Collection. I remember when everyone was going bananas for Metro Chic way back in 2008/2009. At that time, I wasn’t really into nail polish but I remember trying to pick it up at Sephora, but it was constantly out of stock. I became so annoyed with this that I ended up not getting it until a few years later. Once I really got into nail polish around 2010, I started collecting polishes from this line. I always felt that the quality of this line was really good (duh! OPI), so I was sad to see it discontinued. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t been that obsessed with the Formula X polishes that Sephora put out. I mean, they are good quality but they haven’t caught my attention much, but I’ll still purchase a bottle here and there. I decided to use one of my favorite shades from the discontinued line for today’s The Lacquer Ring post which centers around holographic blue.

12Sephora by OPI Slushied is a gorgeous shade that was part of the Glee Collection. The formula on it is a little thin so I had to appy 3 coats for full opacity. If you want this same color with a more opaque formula, you can try OPI Roadhouse Blues.

34For the holographic part of the prompt, I used some large chevron vinyls to outline the design with Layla Ocean Rush. I don’t know about you, but Layla holo polishes don’t last on me at all unless I put them over a base color like this.

So what do you think about this mani? I think it’s pretty simple, but I really like the way it turned out. I hope your week is going well and yay for it almost being the weekend again!! Thanks so much for the visit, and I will catch up with you soon.

Stamping Saturdays #25

Stamping Saturdays #25

Hey! I’m back! This morning I woke up early to go watch the new Transformers movie; it was alright. It was so damn long, but the action was good so I’ll be a little forgiving. You may notice that I have squared my nails again which I feel is my preferred nail shape. They’re super nubs at the moment, but I didn’t want to miss out on another Stamping Saturdays. Since I love pink so much, I decided to start with a super gorgeous pink polish.

Sephora by OPI What Aura Gonna Wear 1Sephora by OPI What Aura Gonna Wear 2Sephora by OPI What Aura Gonna Wear? is a beautiful bubble gum pink crelly. The formula is pretty nice and was opaque at two coats. I am still sad that this whole line is gone, but you can still find some of these polishes online. I actually found this one at Ross for $4 which is awesome.

Winstonia W112 1Winstonia W112 2I am not too satisfied with my stamping here because it isn’t super crisp. This design from from Winstonia plate W112. Is this supposed to be a maze? I have no idea.

Anywho, I’m looking forward to a short week next week and will be thoroughly enjoying myself this weekend with pure laziness. How about you? Do you have anything fun planned this weekend? Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

Happy Friday everyone! I’m really happy today because I actually have Saturday and Sunday off. OH MY GOD who did I have to pay off to actually have a normal 2 day weekend?? Unfortunately, this was just the way things worked out because my work schedule has been changed so I will be back to working one weekend day the following week. Womp, womp. I struggled so much to wake up this morning because the disgusting weather has triggered Allergygate 2014. I am feeling absolutely miserable, but I am going to push through it and try to enjoy my weekend. I went to buy some allergy meds and I forgot that I needed to bring an ID because people use this stuff for meth production. Yeah, no comment. Anyway, on to the polish! Today I have another one of my untrieds to share with you: Sephora by OPI Eve-y On The Eyes. Let’s take a look at this pretty.

Sephora by OPI Eve-y On The Eyes 1aSephora by OPI Eve-y On The Eyes 2This polish was so incredibly promising in the bottle. That beautiful shimmer drew me in immediately, so I was beyond sad when I finally tried it out and the shimmer basically disappeared. Waaaahhhh! Don’t get me wrong; this polish is still beautiful and the color rocks, but how gorgeous would it be if the shimmer showed up as well? The formula an this felt a little thin, but it does build up well.

I’m waiting for my nephew to get here right now so I can barely wait to see him. Every time I see him, he gets bigger and bigger. He just turned 2 months last week so he’s starting to coo and smile a lot which I love. He’s such a cutie. Hopefully he’s in a good mood today so I can get some good pictures of him. Make sure that you stop by tomorrow for Stamping Saturdays! I think that this time around, a few more of my girls will be participating so I can’t want to see what they come up with. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

Oh man, I am so tired right now. Today we had a little party for my brother since he turned 24 a couple of days ago so there was a lot going on. Holy crap, we are getting old. It was really fun, and I had a great time with some family and friends. I didn’t get enough sleep last night because I was up until 2 am finishing up my swatches of the Carrie Underwood polishes, so now I’m paying for it. Since I have been swatching so much in the last week, my nails took a real bad beating, and I could tell that one nail wanted to break. I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this, but any time I use non-acetone remover, I feel like my hands and nails get really messed up. I never have a problem with just regular acetone which I would think would be the complete opposite. Anyway, after I finished swatching the 14 polishes, I filed my nails way down. I fee so much better because my nails were getting way too long for my own comfort. I have a couple of posts with my longer nails and then you’ll be seeing my new nubs. They’re not completely nubbinized, but I did take off some decent length. Today’s polish is also from my untrieds (yay!): Sephora by OPI I’m So Sari! Let me take a moment here and bless the polish Gods for such a glorious creation.

Sephora by OPI I'm So Sari! 1aSephora by OPI I'm So Sari! 2This beautiful glitter concoction is just so breathtaking that my photos don’t manage to do it justice. I didn’t think much of it when I bought it at Sephora, so it had been sitting in my melmers for quite a while. When I swatched Sephora by OPI Slushied, I figured that I might as well try out I’m So Sari! on top of it, and that is how this beautiful mani was born. I’m So Sari! is a pretty dense glitter which you can definitely wear on its own, but by layering it on top of a blue, I only needed one coat. It has a foil-like quality to it, but those holographic glitters really kick it up a notch.

Well, what do you think of this? I’m really loving it and will definitely be wearing it in the future. I have a bunch of stuff to share with you guys, but I think I will wait because I’m tired and should be going to bed since I work at 6 am tomorrow. Just typing that out made me cringe. Anyway, I hope that you’re enjoying your weekend, and we’ll talk soon.

I’m wondering how long it’s going to take me to write 2014 every time I date something. Apparently, today I couldn’t even remember that it’s January so I was typing February on a whole bunch of orders and stuff at work. I’m an idiot, but I least I caught myself before causing all these accounting nightmares. I’m feeling pretty good about myself right now since I am continuing the trend of swatching from my untried stash so I hope that I can keep this going despite all the new Spring collections that are bound to start popping up any day now. Sweet Baby Jesus, please help me resist temptation with your sparkling eyes and wondrous curls. When I was putting some polishes away, I looked at my melmer drawer that houses all of my Sephora by OPI polishes, and I realized that I haven’t swatched even half of my stash so I picked this one up because I had recently swatched another beautiful blue. Let’s take a look at Sephora by OPI Slushied.

Sephora by OPI Slushied 1aSephora by OPI Slushied 2Ah, Slushied! You had so much promise. I swooned when I saw swatches online, and I refused to read anything negative about you. You were so pretty, bright and delectable. When Sephora started slashing prices on their now discontinued SOPI line, I jumped at the chance to get a few colors that I had missed out on. Sephora by OPI Slushied really is a great color, but the formula leaves a lot to be desired: it is thin, runny and streaky. Oh, how you wound my heart Slushied! I had to apply 4 thin coats to get even coverage so I know most of you are already thinking, “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” Sadly, I agree. Since I had swatched OPI No Room For the Blues earlier in the week, I felt that these could be dupes so I confronted them, bottle to bottle in a battle of the dupes.

Slushied vs No Room For The Blues 1Are they dupes?

Slushied vs No Room For The Blues 2aSlushied vs No Room For The Blues 3Can you tell which is which? Don’t cheat.

Slushied vs No Room For The Blues 2bIt might be difficult to tell from my pictures, but these are not 100% dupes although they are amazingly close. Slushied is slightly more green leaning and is a little darker. No Room For The Blues is a tad lighter and more crisp. In this battle of the dupes, No Room For The Blues comes out the winner because of its superior formula and because you are more likely to be able to find it. I like both colors but sometimes you just don’t want to deal with a shitty formula, you know?

So what do you think? Are these blues calling your name? Are you sad that the SOPI brand is no more? To be honest, I am a little sad because I remember how I went bananas for Metro Chic when it first came out. Ahhh…polish memories. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.

Sephora by OPI XOX Betsey

Since I have the big interview tomorrow, I wanted to wear something really lady-like today to get me in the mood for tomorrow. I already have my nail polish picked out for the intereview, and I hope that it brings me lots of luck but I’ll show that to you tomorrow. Today’s mani features Sephora by OPI XOX Betsey which I purchased on super sale a few months ago.

Sephora by OPI XOX Betsey Swatch

There are always colors that my camera manages to hate and this is one of them. I swear it was capturing this color in all sorts of crazy ways. Sephora by OPI XOX Betsey is a pinky-peachy putty color that I liked way more than an I anticipated. I was super surprised byt he wide brush–did all the SOPI polishes change over to this thicker and wider brush? If they did, I am really loving it!

TutorialJen from The Polishaholic had this really cute nail look a few months ago, and I knew I had to recreate it. You can see her mani here. There really is nothing difficult to create this mani unless you think it’s difficult to place the stripping tape. Once you have applied the stripping tape, you just apply a matte top coat and quickly remove the tape. I prefer to do one nail at a time because you don’t want the top coat to completely dry before you remove the tape.

Sephora by OPI XOX Betsey Strippin Tape Rhinestones

Once you have removed the stripping tape, you can add the rhinestones where the stripping tape criss-crossed. This looks so girlie but a little badass too. I was going to use studs but wanted to keep this whole mani pink.

What do you think of this mani? Pink overload, perhaps? Thanks for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

P.S. Please wish me luck for tomorrow’s interview. I really need this job to come through!!! 🙂

Jindie Nails Chomp Chomp!

Here is the polish a few of you had inquired about: Chom Chomp! When I first visited Jen’s shop, this is one of the polishes that immediately caught my attention because of the bright colors. It’s just so in your face that I couldn’t help loving it. This polish is part of her Football Season collection so it is limited edition which means that if you want it, go get it now! I wasn’t sure what polish to wear under this glitter so I went with a soft white.

I really love the color of this polish but it is a freaking nightmare to apply. It’s streaky as hell and it took 4 coats to get it to look like this. I am guessing this is some kind of French Manicure type of polish because it’s just too much of a nightmare to be worn alone. I actually have worn this alone before and have gotten a lot of compliments.

How pretty is this polish? It drive me nuts to see all that mostly matte glitter…I love it!

This is one coat of Chomp Chomp! over Sephora by OPI Private Access. I did a little random dotting of glitter but not enough to call it a second coat. I am really loving this glitter and can’t wait to try it over a different base color. New items are being added all the time so go check out Jen’s shop here.

Are you ready for the long Labor Day weekend? I am not planning on doing anything because it’s so freaking hot that all I want to so is lay in front of my fan very scantily clad. These are the times I wish I lived alone! lol I might go to the beach but I’m sure it will be a parking nightmare so maybe I will brave the bus. Oh boy…I’m sure that will be a story. So please have fun and stay safe!

Sephora by OPI My Personal Serpent

I was debating what to wear on my nails today, and bright cheery colors just weren’t appealing. I’ve been in a crappy mood today so I wanted something dark and smoky. I looked at my untried stash and pulled out SOPI My Personal Serpent which I recently got on sale at Sephora. This color is part of their Fall 2011 collection called The Garden Of Good And Evil which included seven other polishes. Before I get into swatches and the stamping I did, I wanted to do a quick polish comparison. My Personal Serpent reminded me of Essie Bobbing For Baubles and Zoya Cynthia so I did a side-by-side comparison

Pretty similar, right?  I purchased Bobbing For Baubles first and really liked it. Out of the three, Essie has the best formula. They actually all are pretty great when it comes to the formula and you reach opacity with 2 thin coats.  I purchased Cynthia because…well…it’s my namesake so how could resist? I just imagined that my namesake polish is a crazy glitter in an alternate universe. NOOOOOOOOOOOO! So why did I purchase My Personal Serpent even though I have 2 other nearly identical colors? Because it was on sale, and who can resist any nail polish sales? I am such a psycho nail polish hoarder….

You already know I like blues so this dark smoky blue fit the bill today. This color is just so dark and saturated that it makes me dream of fall/winter colors. Ahhhh!

I am anxiously waiting the arrival of my Bundle Monster plates so I took out my konad and used my favorite mummy bandage plate design.

Do you have multiple dupe polishes from different brands? Do you feel dumb once you realize you purchased a dupe? I need a polish intervention.

I Love Thee UPS Man

I should ask my new UPS man’s name because he’s super nice, and I am always happy to see him because it means he has something for me. I was expecting my last nail polish order and the third beauty.com attempt to send me the SpaRitual set I purchased a month ago. You may recall that I got a shipment from them twice and the set was empty both times. Will the third time be the charm?

OMG THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Just Kidding. 🙂

Thank you beauty.com for finally making sure I didn’t get an empty box again. They ended up refunding my money AND sending me the set for free which is pretty nice. When I initially purchased it, it was on sale AND it was during the F&F sale so it was about $12. I now looked it up and the set is selling for $30. Really?? SpaRitual retails for $10 a bottle (and can sometimes be found cheaper) so they’re telling me the box is worth $10? Lame.

So here is my new nail polish stash. I got everything on sale so I don’t feel THAT bad. Either way, I think I’m set for a while. I am going to go through all of my untrieds before I purchase more.

Sephora By OPI: Eve-y On The Eyes, Tempted By Teal, Stop Stocking Me! and My Personal Serpent

nails inc.: Maddox Street, Heathrow (Matte), Hampstead Gardens, Tate, Old Park Lane, Gatwick (Matte), Westminster and FNO

SpaRitual: I Feel The Earth Move and Hot Blooded

So this is all the nail polish news I have today. I also have swatches of the latest Essie collection so I’ll try to post that later today. Last night I went to see Snow White and The Huntsman with my friend L. We were both feeling pretty rotten so we thought that maybe getting our minds off stuff would help. It did in a way, but then we got back to my place and we started talking about everything. It’s hard to see someone you care about go through so much crap. I know she knows exactly how I feel right now, and that breaks my heart.

This morning I went to see Prometheus because I had a gift card that I needed to use before it expired. I really loved it. Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba in one movie?  So hot. Want to touch the hiney.

I’m really happy to see Noomi Rapace more in American movies. If you’re not familiar with her, she portrayed Lisbeth Salander in the original The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo trilogy in Sweden. She is awesome, and you should definitely check out that trilogy.

Anyway, I’ll post the Essie swatches later and will start working on my untrieds. I updated my spreadsheet, and I now have 498 bottles of nail polish. I know. Don’t say it.
