I Have No Willpower

I’m hanging my head in shame as I share this information with you: I caved on my no-buy and purchased some nail polish. A few. More than a few…a lot. It all started on Saturday. I had been feeling crappy so my resolve to not buy any polish melted away. I was immediately tempted when the Cult Nails sale started. I just couldn’t pass up getting 3 polishes at 50% off. Sooooo…I bought three: Hypnotize Me, Let Me Fly and Iconic. Then later that day, I noticed that a friend had posted a $5 gift card for Sephora on my facebook. I didn’t think it was real, but it turns out that it’s a new app and it really worked. So I was just perusing the sephora site when I saw that Nails. Inc had brought back their neutrals set.

They are FOUR full size polishes that retail for $9.50 each, and this set costs $25. I didn’t really have to think too much about this so I snatched it up.  The retail therapy seemed to help, BUT now I had to deal with the guilt of failing!

Then today I was over the moon when I got the news about my dog  paperwork so I went completely insane and ended up buying all sorts of craziness.

Random Color Club: Age Of Aquarius, Pucci-Licious and Hydrangea Kiss

Then I went to Ross and found some new Color Club sets…like I was going to pass this up. These are not labeled like the previous All About Color set so I’ve contacted Color Club to see if they can help.

And lastly, I saw a few Essie bottles at Ross for $3.49!!! When did Ross start carrying Essie? I failed to notice that these are super close to the Essies I had just purchased an hour ago. I guess I was too excited about Essie at Ross to even notice.

Essie: Nice Is Nice and Absolutely Shore

So, I am really annoyed with myself right now because I didn’t buy any polish for almost 2 weeks and then went out and purchased 23 bottles. Is this the ugly face of addiction? I think so.

Saint Patrick’s Day Nail Looks

I wasn’t really planning to do any Saint Patrick’s Day nails on myself, but after I did my sister-in-law’s nails I felt inspired. She went to a SPD party so she wanted something fun. This is how her nails turned out:

Cute, right?

I obviously also went the green route. I started off with China Glaze Gaga For Green as my base color.

Then I used Color Club Holiday Splendor for the chevron design on my tips.

I should have left it at that, but then I decided to add a shamrock sticker and rhinestones.

Then I thought to myself that the rhinestones looked pretty tacky so I pried them off. Unfortunately, this left a ding on my nails.

And because it bothered me that I could still see where the rhinestones used to be, I then tried to cover it up with glitter.

So by this point, I thought that my nails looked pretty gross and just took everything off and started all over.

This was my final look. I used OPI Mermaid Tears as the base color and Color Club Holiday Splendor for the chevron tips. I used only one design on my accent nail and I was pleased with the way they turned out.

I had a nice SPD after all! I went to dinner with two friends whom I have known since we were kids. After we stuffed ourselves as Lucille’s BBQ, we went to a karaoke lounge and sang all the embarrassing songs that we could think of. Ahhh…it was a lot of fun.

How did you spend SPD? Did you sport any fun and festive nail designs?

Color Club Back To Boho Part 2

I spaced out and realized I didn’t get around to posting the other half of this collection. I actually much prefer this other half because I find the colors more interesting. This is an older collection from Fall 2011 but it’s still really nice in my opinion. Some of these colors don’t scream Fall to me so I’d still use them any time. Enjoy the swatches!

Nomadic In Nude is just such a weird color. It’s like a putty color that just reminds me of a corpse. Yeah, how’s that for morbid? This color was such a pain in the ass that I don’t know if I am really excited about wearing it again. I mean, it’s not really a color that I would normally gravitate towards and when you add the problematic formula, forget it! I had to apply 4 coats to make it look somewhat smooth and even then it still looked a little bumpy. A coat of Seche Vite helped to even it out a bit.

Earthy Angel is the perfect café au lait color. This is not a color that I would have picked up in my earlier days of nail polish obsession, but I’m definitely starting to like nude colors more and more. It has a decent formula and I thought it was going to be fine with two coats. However, once I looked at my nails more closely, I noticed some bald spots where the polish dragged. It looked pretty good with the third coat. I knew this color would be the perfect matte mannequin manicure polish so I applied a coat of Essie Matte About You.

Not satisfied, I applied a coat of glitter to see what it would look like. Here it is with OPI Servin’ Up Sparkle from the Serena Williams Collection.

And finally I mattified it–glitter and all.

I really like this look!

New Bohemian was unexpected for a Fall collection. It’s definitely a spring color for me. It was a lot more sheer than I expected so it took 3 coats for full opacity. I really love this color but it’s such a common color now that it’s not that exciting. I immediately wondered how close this would be to China Glaze’s For Audrey so I swatched them side by side.

It may be a little difficult to tell from these pictures, but these are not exact dupes. They are definitely close but you can tell that For Audrey is brighter with more blue while New Bohemian has more green in it. Do you need both? Probably not. But you know me…there’s never enough polish.

Shabby Drab kind of reminded me of China Glaze’s Secret Peri-wink-le but it photographs so purple. It was pretty sheer but the color was buildable without any issues. It’s a dusty lavander periwinkle color that I really liked in this collection.

This color is right up my alley. Rad Monad is one of those purple, taupe, gray, beige mixes that are ever present now. Remember when Metro Chic started a frenzy? This was super pigmented and only required two coats.

Lastly here is Red-ical Gypsy. I don’t have much to say about this color. It’s nice. It’s dark with some magenta/berry in it. Very saturated and only needed two coats.

These colors should be readily available in case you’re interested in getting any of them. Ross continues to carry these collection sets for $7.99 so keep an eye out for them if you’re looking for a good deal.

Phantom Color Club Set

I found a set named “All About Color” by Color Club but I can’t seem to find any information about it online. It really annoys me that I can’t find any info about it because none of the bottles are labeled and there is no information on the box either. Grrrrr!!!! Despite this, there are some pretty gorgeous colors included in the set.

Some of these pictures really did not come out right no matter how many shots I took. The sunlight was really crappy today because it was raining on and off throughout the day.

The only color that was a total nightmare to apply was the light pink color. It was streaky as hell and I had to apply five coats!!!!! That’s just wrong.

What’s your favorite color?

First Impressions: Nicole By OPI

I had been wondering how Nicole by OPI differed from the regular OPI line. I mean, they are basically the same price so I would imagine that the quality would be about the same, right?  I am pretty loyal to the brands I know produce quality lacquers such as OPI, China Glaze, Orly, Essie, Nubar and Color Club so I tend to stick to those brands and only occasionally spring for a more high-end polish; it just really has to wow me if I have to shell out more money. At $7-$8 a pop, Nicole by OPI is a bit pricey compared to what I pay for most polishes, but I saw a couple of shades on sale today at Target so I decided to try them out.

I really liked the colors. I can’t really speak for how long these polishes last since I only swatched them, but the formula was not difficult to work with. They both seemed a little thinner than I’m used to and one of the polishes had a crazy short and awkward brush. Green Up Your Act! required three coast for full opacity and It’s Not Me, It’s Blue needed four. Even with four coats, there was some visible nail line in the sunlight. I have read that these polishes chip like a mofo in a day or two so I’m curious to see what happens when I use these on a full manicure. Overall, I don’t regret purchasing these since I got them on sale for $3.52 each. I will definitely pick up some more colors if they are on sale. It will take a really amazing and unique color for me to pay full price for these polishes.

I still haven’t swatched the polishes I purchased yesterday, and I just got another set. I stopped by Ross to check if they had any Color Club sets and they did!!!! The sucky part is that none of these polishes have names on them, and I am not sure what collection this is…if any. Usually the names of the polishes are listed on the box, but nothing is listed on these. It almost seems like they threw a bunch of different colors in there. All I see is “All About Color” as a possible collection name but I can’t find anything about it online. For $7.99, I can overlook all this because there are some pretty colors in there for sure.  I’ll eventually swatch these as well.

How’s that for a polish frenzy?

Color Club – Holiday Splendor

I’ve never really been that interested in glitters until recently. This is such an amazing jelly-based glitter especially because the glitter doesn’t disappear into the base. This reminds of China Glaze’s Atlantis, but I like the formula from Color Club better.

And here is a very blurry picture that shows how this sparkles in the light:

Isn’t it gorgeous?

Bisous mes chéris et à bientôt!

Color Club – Back To Boho Collection B

I recently noticed that Ross carries older Color Club collections at ridiculous prices. I picked up the Back To Boho Collection B for $7.99!!! Now, the sad part is that I found this half of the collection very disappointing. If I had purchased these at full price, I would have been upset but considering the bargain price, I can deal with the lackluster formula and the lack of original colors. Here are the swatches so you can decide for yourself.
