China Glaze Autumn Nights – Shimmers

China Glaze Autumn Nights – Shimmers

PurchasedMyself

I am so very glad that I finally got done swatching the third and final part of the China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection. At this point, my nails kind of hurt yet I still have a bagillion polishes to get through today. Hey, I’m not complaining because I have a lot of pretty polishes to swatch and a few are giving me some serious polish sweats. In case you don’t know what I mean by polish sweats, it’s when you see a polish so pretty that you get the sweats just thinking of how pretty it will look. Maybe it’s just me…? Anyway, as I had predicted, I do like the shimmer polishes from this collection. In fact, I actually love 4 of the 6 which was definitely a surprise. Let me show you the swatches.

The formula on all these polishes was very similar so I didn’t feel the need to discuss each one individually. I applied two coats of each polish and that’s really all they needed for full opacity. The formula was not too thick and not too thin and it was extremely easy to control. I did find that it was very easy to create bald spots when I didn’t wait enough time in between coats. The worst offenders in the bald spot and streakiness departments were Kiss My Glass and Public Relations. In fact, those are the only two polishes that I  didn’t like from this half of the collection. The remaining four are just beautiful and if I had to pick just one, I would pick…Tongue & Chic just because I have a current obsession with teal. I picked up this whole collection during last week’s major binge shopping escapade with my friend Lesley. If you had seen what ensued when we were informed that this collection was available, you might have laughed. We literally grabbed everything we could get our hands on. I don’t even want to think about what kind of look I had in my eyes but it was probably something like this:

buyallthethingsWhenever I go polish shopping, I kind of go into a trance and literally grab EVERYTHING in sight and think about consequences later–and yes, that always backfires but the high I get is totally worth it. Yes, I am still talking about nail polish.

So there you have it. What do you think of the China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection as a whole? Are you excited about these colors and finishes or do you find them very been there done that? As you know, the chromes were horrible in my opinion, but the cremes and most of the shimmers were total winners in my book. I guess 6 out of 12 isn’t too bad, but I wish this collection had more cremes…ahhh my lovely cremes. Well, that’s all I have for you today. Thanks for stopping by, and I will talk to you soon!

China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection – Foils

China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection – Foils

You know how I said I was going to try to keep an open mind regarding the foils in the China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection? Aww! That’s so cute that you believed me. I actually did try to keep an open mind, but any time that I see metallic or foil-like polishes, I can’t deal with how disgusting they look on me. I don’t know if the metallic finish clashes with my dark skin…I have no idea, but I just want to barf all over my nails because even barf covering up the polish will be better. Anyway, since you already know that I am not a fan of the foil finish, it will come as no surprise that I am not a fan of the following four polishes. The formula on all four polishes was identical so I will talk about it after I show you my swatches.

China Glaze Rendezvous With You 1China Glaze Rendezvous With You 2China Glaze Rendezvous With You

China Glaze Strike Up A Cosmo 1China Glaze Strike Up A Cosmo 2China Glaze Strike Up A Cosmo

If I had to chose one polish from this collection that doesn’t make me want to rip out my nails with pliers, it would be Rendezvous With You mainly because it’s not as metallic-y as the other three. One thing that these polishes have going for them is that the formula is pretty great: it’s kind of thick, but it applies easily and the coverage is great. You do have to make sure that you work fast and that you don’t overwork the polish because they do tend to set quickly so you can definitely make them look gummy and lumpy if you go over the same spot too much.

To be perfectly honest, I think that a lot of people are going to like these because the colors are nice and the formula is pretty good…but I just can’t like them. This is completely about my personal preference so don’t let me taint you with my hate. So what do you think about foil polishes in general? Will you be getting any of these? I know Siobhan will be all over Goldie But Goodie since she is such a gold freak! Did you see my post of the two creme polishes from this collection? No? What?! Well click here to check them out!

I’m super curious to hear what you think of these and what you think of the collection so far. The last part of the collection is going to include the 6 shimmers which I hope I like better. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

So how was my first day on my new schedule you ask? Well, it was glorious in the sense that I didn’t want to cry when my alarm rang. However, I am now thoroughly aware–with every fiber in my being–that I am NOT a morning person. I hate waking up no matter how many hours I have slept. Last night I went to bed around 8:30 and I woke up at 6:00, but I was still kind of miserable. Clearly I have issues? Or do people really hate waking up as much as I do regardless of how much rest they have had? Anywho, I am still really happy about my new schedule, but I have realized that the fact that I don’t have to go to sleep super early means that I am now being exposed to a bunch of putrid primetime shows–namely The Bachelorette. Why am I watching this mindless drivel? It’s horrid and I want to stab my eyes out with dotting tools…yet I can’t turn it off. This is ridiculous!

Last night I mentioned that I would be swatching the Chine Glaze Autumn Nights Collection this week, and I already started. Since it is a 12 piece collection, I decided to break it up into 3 posts which are: the cremes, the shimmers and the foils. Unfortunately, this collection only has two cremes…two! I guess I can’t always have my way, but I wish they had more cremes in this collection because 2 lonely little cremes just made me sad. Before I bitch too much, let me show you the two polishes in question.

China Glaze Queen B 1

China Glaze Queen B 2China Glaze Queen B is a gorgeous indigo creme that totally brings thoughts of fall to my mind. Me likey…me likey a lot. I was a little scared that this color would be a major stainer, but it really wasn’t. The formula was pretty nice on this one and I only needed two coats for these swatches.

China Glaze Charmed, I'm Sure 1

China Glaze Charmed, I'm Sure 2

And here is another entry in the lovely dark greyed purple creme to lust over. China Glaze Charmed, I’m Sure was the one polish that I was immediately drawn to when I first lay eyes on this collection, and I’m definitely still loving it. The formula on this one was good as well: super glossy, smooth and very pigmented. Another win for the cremes!

I know this is just a tiny glimpse into this collection, but so far so good! I will be swatching the foils next and I have to admit that I kind of HATE foils and chromes–like absolutely hate them. However, I am going to try to keep an open mind and not be a total killjoy because I know a lot of people LOVE fall collections (me being one of those Fall lovers!). So let me know what you think of these two cremes: yay or nay? How do you feel about chrome/foil polishes? Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

China Glaze On The Horizon Collection

Those of you who know me, probably know how much I hate birds. This isn’t just like a dislike of birds, I actually find them disgusting and terrifying. Every time that I think of birds, I imagine feeling their weird scaly feet on my hand I nearly convulse. Napoleon Dynamite is one of my favorite movies, and this scene still cracks me up and horrifies me at the same time.

I freaking hate chickens too. So much so that I didn’t eat chicken for years. I really don’t know where my hatred for birds started, but I always remember going to visit my grandparents in Mexico when I was a kid. They had a lot of animals and they had this crazy rooster that would always poke at my legs with its beak and rip my tights. My mom always dressed me in frilly dresses and tights, and I ripped holes into every single pair. No one believed me that the rooster would chase me and poke holes in my tights so maybe that’s where it all started because I always got in trouble over that. I was about 4 years old when I encountered that psychotic rooster so my hate goes deep.

Well, imagine my horror when all these feather-type polishes started popping up. I first heard about them from Nails Inc. and I actually passed on them because they had a picture of a bird on the cap. I was slightly relieved when Sally Hansen put them out as “Fuzzy Coats,” but I still ended up passing on them. Well, last week I caved when I saw them at a local beauty supply. Despite the very avian names of these polishes, I decided to suck it up and swatch them for the benefit of you, my readers, and my own curiosity. I layered all of these polishes over a colored base because I did not want to fuss with the application of wearing them alone. I am going to show you my swatches first and will then talk about the actual polishes because the formula on them was identical across the board.

I didn’t really have any issues with the formula on these polishes. I started out applying two thin coats of the glitter to try to build it up. However, I found that applying one thick coat by loading up my brush with glitter and then pushing it around on my nails gave me the best result. I wasn’t going for a completely opaque glitter coverage, so this method worked for me just fine. I noticed that I was getting glitter basically sticking over my nail edge so I just had to push it back or smooth it back with the brush. I think these polishes dry a little dull since they are full of matte bar glitters and your nails will feel a little rough unless you put on a nice heavy coat of top coat. Someone who shall remain nameless mentioned that these polishes reminded her of armpit hair shavings. LOL Omg…I am still not over that comment and wish I had come up with it myself.  Overall, I think these are fun but they are not for me. First of all, the whole bird thing…

Secondly, I just think they look a little weird. I can see this trend going the way of the crackle except that crackle never made me want to vomit so there you go.  While I can see the allure of these and can understand why they’ve been so popular, I think this will be my first and last experiment with feather/fuzzy polishes.

So what about you? What do you think of this collection or trend in general? Are you going to be getting any of these? What are some of your phobias? Thanks so much for stopping in today, and I will talk to you soon!

Guess who’s having a girl…

Guess who’s having a girl…

Nicole from Polish Me, Please! is! Yes, you heard right. After tons of speculation about the sex of her baby who refused to cooperate during her ultrasounds, she finally got confirmation that she will be having a girl. Awww! I am so very happy for Nicole and her husband (and Minnie and Bubba too!) because their life is going to be turned upside down in the most wonderful of ways. I am excited about joining this gender reveal extravaganza with some of the loveliest ladies I have had the honor to get to know. Since we had to wait so long to find out if Nicole is going to have a boy or a girl, we’ve been joking with her that she is actually having a Unicorn who is now affectionately known as Helleborine Bonny Rump. Here is the mani I created to celebrate the fact that Helleborine finally cooperated!

Helleborine Bonny Rump 1

I started by painting my nails with the following China Glaze polishes from left to right: Dance Baby, Pink-ie Promise, Something Sweet and Light As Air.

Helleborine Bonny Rump 2

I then used a dotting took to place some dots on 3 of my nails. I absolutely love dotticures so this is the first thing I thought of. On my middle finger, I stamped a unicorn image using Winstonia plate W117.

So there you have it ladies! Please join us in congratulating Nicole for finally finding out that she will be having a girl.

Lupus Awareness Month

self purchased

Hello everyone. I’m in a pretty great mood today since I have tomorrow off so I’ll probably be spending most of my day off swatching so many new pretties. I have about 30 new polish that are in line to be swatched so it’s a little overwhelming, but I think I’ll be able to get through everything rather quickly as long as I break it down into manageable batches. I have something special today for you: as you may or may not know, May is Lupus awareness month. Lupus? What’s that? Ok, I have to admit that I knew about Lupus since I was a teenager because I used to watch One Life To Live and Marty Saybrooke had lupus on the show so I remember looking it up to find out what it was. (For once, a trashy soap opera was actually educational!) Well, yesterday I was chit chatting with my group of lovely ladies from a Facebook group I am part of *waving at all the beauties from PWRC* and my friend Holly asked me if I could feature some purple nails in support of Lupus Awareness Month. Of course I said yes and I decided to do them right away before I get bogged down with my planned swatch-a-thons. If you don’t know what Lupus is, here is a brief description from the Mayo Clinic:

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems — including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.

Lupus can be difficult to diagnose because its signs and symptoms often mimic those of other ailments. The most distinctive sign of lupus — a facial rash that resembles the wings of a butterfly unfolding across both cheeks — occurs in many but not all cases of lupus.

Some people are born with a tendency toward developing lupus, which may be triggered by infections, certain drugs or even sunlight. While there’s no cure for lupus, treatments can help control symptoms.

No two cases of lupus are exactly alike. Signs and symptoms may come on suddenly or develop slowly, may be mild or severe, and may be temporary or permanent. Most people with lupus have mild disease characterized by episodes — called flares — when signs and symptoms get worse for a while, then improve or even disappear completely for a time.

The signs and symptoms of lupus that you experience will depend on which body systems are affected by the disease. The most common signs and symptoms include: Fatigue and fever, Joint pain, stiffness and swelling, Butterfly-shaped rash on the face that covers the cheeks and bridge of the nose, Skin lesions that appear or worsen with sun exposure, Fingers and toes that turn white or blue when exposed to cold or during stressful periods (Raynaud’s phenomenon), shortness of breath, Chest pain, Dry eyes, Headaches, confusion, memory loss

For all those warriors out there who struggle with Lupus, I hope that treatment options continue to improve and that maybe one day we can find a cure.

OPI Purple With A Purpose is really high up there on my list of most favorite purple polishes and that really is saying a lot considering that I regularly go on purple overload. While the formula on this seems a little thin upon the first coat application, a second coat really levels it out and gives complete coverage. Don’t tell me that you don’t like this polish because I will hurt you. Hurt you bad. I have swatched this polish on my blog before but I am kind of embarrassed because it was in my early days of blogging and the swatch is kind of atrocious. If you decide to search it out, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Don’t ask me about the China Glaze Classic Chromes polish because I know absolutely nothing about it. hahaha! I picked it up in some random beauty supply but it wasn’t labeled or anything. I’d love to find out more about it, but I never heard back from China Glaze when I emailed them about it. Hmmmpphhffff! I used a design from Bundle Monster Plate BM-321 for the ribbon design. I really like how these turned out.

I encourage you to visit the Lupus Foundation Of America and that you sign the petition to urge congress fund more Lupus research. I truly hope that you take a moment to do this and that you learn a little bit more about this chronic disease that affects so many people around the world. Thank you so much for stopping by today!

China Glaze Hologlam Collection

self purchased

So, I finally got around to swatching 4 of the polishes I picked up from the China Glaze Holofraud–err…Hologlam Collection. Ok, ok…I can admit that I was really annoyed about this collection when swatches finally came out because I was expecting some awesome holo goodness and these felt like a big letdown. Was I on crack before, or do you not remember some amazing swatch wheels floating around about this collection from last year’s Cosmoprof??? I was so excited because I still have not gotten over completely missing out on the OMG Collection which sadly pre-dates my polish obsession. Well, here I thought I was going to get my second chance but no. Waaahhh waahhh! When I started seeing all the reviews online, I just became bitter, yet still purchased 4 of these polishes. Why, you ask? Well, because I am a polish hoarder, and I just couldn’t help myself. I ended up exiling them to the back of one of my melmers until recently when I told myself that I should at least swatch them. I did swatch them, and I think I need to somewhat take back some of my vitriol against this collection. While I stand by my comments about these polishes not really having a very strong holographic effect, they are still very pretty. The formula on these was kind of spectacular. I swatched them on my bare nails and applied 2 coats and no top coat. While the formula seemed a little thin, they covered well and dried lightning fast. I’m sure you’ve seen a million and a half posts about the China Glaze Hologlam Collection, but indulge me, won’t you?

Well, my final thoughts on this collection is that while they are not crazy holographic, I do like the delicate holo effect. I can imagine wearing these when I want something sparkly but not flashy a la Halo Hues or Laylas. Will I get more of these? Maybe one or two more, but I won’t die without them. What do you think about this collection? Have you tried them out yet?

Since I was so annoyed earlier today, I’m going to just share a little mini-rant with you today. I hate cell phones. I hate the fact that cell phones have completely taken over people’s lives. Why do people feel the need to ALWAYS be on their cell phones either talking or surfing the web or whatever? I seriously almost got into a car accident with some moron who was too busy talking on her phone instead of actually paying attention to the road. When I was waiting in line to pay for some stuff, the moron in front of me was talking on his cell phone so loud that I just wanted to punch him in the back of the head. And the worst is when you are with friends and they are paying more attention to their phones than to you. Seriously?  When I was a teenager, cell phones weren’t that common and we survived. Why do people nowadays act like they can’t live without them? Anyway, that’s all I have to say about that. I could say more, but it’s probably wiser to leave it at that.

I hope you’re having a nice Monday, and thanks so much for stopping by today!

China Glaze On The Shore Collection – Sunsational Summer 2013 Neons

self purchased

Hey mon! Summer has hit us in Southern California and it’s hotter than a witch’s armpit today which means that we are seeing our first wildfires of the season. Fan-freaking-tastic. I guess this would be the perfect time to share with you my swatches of one of the first summer collections I’ve gotten my hands on: the China Glaze On The Shore Collection for Summer 2013. The On The Shore Collection is a 12 piece collection comprised of 6 neon jellies and 6 neon cremes. Since I am such a creme lover, I picked up 5 of the neon cremes and 3 of the jellies. Because this is pretty picture-heavy post, I am going to talk about the formula and such here before I get into the actual swatches.

First of all, I would like to say that the colors in this collection are gorgeous. I was so excited when I first started seeing the promo pics but my excitement soon fizzled once I started swatching this collection. I could cry neon tears lamenting what a disappointment the formula was for these polishes. I have to say that while the jellies behave like typical jellies (multiple coats), the cremes are the real offenders here. The creme formula is chalky, patchy and streaky and no matter how much I tried to work with them, they just didn’t want to behave. I wanted to chop my fingers off in utter disappointment and despair–yes, dramatic, but you know polish is something serious up in here. I do have to mention that I swatch all my polishes on my bare nails so maybe a good base coat could have helped? The creme polishes dry to a satiny finish and I thought I could fix them with some Seche Vite, but they just looked worse afterwards. I have no idea if the horrible application has something to do with my application technique or maybe they could have looked and behaved better with a base coat and/or a different top coat. By The time I finished swatching, I was just fed up and didn’t want to fiddle with them anymore. You can see the uneven application on my swatches below which really annoys me because I try to do my best to only put up decent swatches, but sometimes you just can’t help it.

First up are the three jellies: Heat Index, Keepin’ It Teal and You Drive Me Coconuts. All of these required 4 thick coats to get rid of the VNL. I much prefer these jelly polishes to the creme ones only because they look great at the end. You could probably avoid so many coats by applying a white polish underneath–put on your white undies, ladies!

The following 5 polishes are all from the neon creme collection. This side of the collection had the most drool-worthy colors, but unfortunately they did not measure up. Sadness. All of these swatches are 2 thin coats and one thick coat to try to smooth them out a bit. None of them have top coat as I wanted to keep their satin finish but also wanted to avoid the weird streakiness that developed when I applied Seche Vite.

Too Yacht To Handle

I don’t think I’ve been so disappointed in a collection in a long time. Wait, I’m lying. Tranzitions. Enough said. Anyway, I think I’ve made it pretty clear that I was not happy at all with these polishes. I will repeat myself in that maybe I just needed a different application technique with a base coat and maybe a different top coat. I don’t want to sour you on this collection because the colors are just so pretty that if you can get them to work, they are totally worth the effort. As for me, I just don’t have the time and patience to fiddle with them so they will be going up on my blog sale. Make sure you check it out if you’re interested in trying them out for cheap before you buy them all. Just a suggestion.

Thanks so much for visiting today, and please let me know if I’m just nuts and these have worked for you. I can’t wait until more reviews start popping up online so I can compare my experience with that of others. What do you think of these colors? Are they gorgeous enough to be worth all the extra work? Let me know! Talk to you soon.

China Glaze Texture Collection

The products featured in this post were purchased by me.

I don’t know about you, but I suspect that the texture craze is going to go the way of crackle polishes. It seems that every brand is coming out with some sort of Texture polish nowadays, and I’m more than happy to try them all out. Today I have the latest in popcorn ceiling chic: the China Glaze Texture Collection.

collage

The formula on these polishes is pretty great; it is incredibly easy to control and it is very opaque. I found that it was better to apply two very thin coats than to apply one thick coats. However, it is important to mention that you have to let the first coat dry before you apply the second coat or else you will drag the texture and create bald spots. The finish should be completely opaque so whenever you see some shiny spots, it’s because the texture wasn’t applied evenly. I took most of my swatch pictures too quickly because as my nails continued to dry, they became more matte. Let me show you my swatches of the China Glaze Texture Collection before I give you my final thoughts.

Well, I am really happy with the color selection in this collection: they are vibrant and varied. However, I do feel that they are missing the sparkle that I have seen in other collections. If you’re new to the texture craze, I do think that these are worth picking up if only to try them out. The texture feeling doesn’t really bother me as much as I thought it would. I realize that this collection seem to be very polarizing: either you love it or you hate it. I’m curious to know what you think. Will you be picking these up?

The products featured in this post were purchased by me.

China Glaze Avant Garden Collection Part 1

Holy Jebus, I’ve had these polishes for a few weeks, and I finally am getting around to swatching them. I picked up 9 of the 12 colors initially, but I decided to swatch these 6 colors to start with because I bought a second set of these colors for my latest giveaway. I wish I had gotten around to swatching these polishes earlier, but things were kind of nutso because of my never-ending flu and all my work troubles. Additionally, I had all that unfortunate damage to my hands because of cleaning products so that definitely derailed my swatching plans. In any case, I am glad that my hands have completely recovered, and I am now at a decent nail length where I don’t feel self-conscious about my nubs. Are you ready to see the first part of my China Glaze Avant Garden Collection swatches? Yes? Ok, here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!

China Glaze Keep Calm, Paint On Swatch

China Glaze Keep Calm, Paint On Swatch

Keep Calm, Paint On Swatch was one of the colors that I was most interested in when I first saw this collection. While I still love this steely blue-green color, it was streak-a-rific. I applied 3 medium coats here to finally get it to look decent. The formula also seemed thin.

China Glaze Fade Into Hue Swatch

China Glaze Fade Into Hue Swatch

When I first saw Fade Into Hue, I wondered how it compared to China Glaze Secret Peri-wink-le. I think it is a pretty color but not that unique. Again, the formula seemed a little thin but I applied three thin coats which gave me pretty good coverage.

China Glaze Tart-y For The Party Swatch

China Glaze Tart-y For The Party Swatch

Tart-y For The Party is a color that I love–all 5 billion versions of it that are in my melmers. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this type of bright lilac colors and will probably continue to gravitate towards them. Tart-y For The Party was definitely more pigmented and thicker than the previous polishes so I only needed 2 coats here.

China Glaze Mimosas Before Manis Swatch

China Glaze Mimosas Before Manis Swatch

I refuse to use the same punctuation for this polish that CG used. Mimosas Before Manis has been getting a lot of attention. It’s one of those colors that you either hate or you love. Personally, I can’t get enough of peachy/orange/coral type polishes especially when they have such a beautiful glowy shimmer like this one. The formula was a little on the thick side and VERY pigmented. I applied three thin coats here.

China Glaze Fancy Pants Swatch

China Glaze Fancy Pants Swatch

Ahhhhh…Fancy Pants. My dear, sweet Fancy Pants. You are my favorite. This polish had the best formula of the 6 colors I swatched today: super pigmented with a good consistency. I love it. That is all I have to say about that.

China Glaze Sunday Funday Swatch

China Glaze Sunday Funday Swatch

Sunday Funday is such a beautiful, bright and saturated creme. I have to be honest–as much as I love glitter and shimmer and all those other finishes, there is nothing better than a rich and glossy creme.  This one also had a pretty fantastic formula. If I had been a little more careful, I could have gotten away with one coat!

Now, if you want a chance to win your very own set of these 6 colors, make sure that you enter my current giveaway. There are only 5 more days left to enter so don’t miss your chance. The set I am giving away is brand new polishes–all purchased by me for you: my wonderful readers.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

So what do you think of the first half of my China Glaze Avant Garden Collection swatches? Do you like these as much as I do? I know the formula was a little tricky on some of these, but I’ll forgive them for that since the colors are just so pretty. Let me know what you think…especially if you’ve already purchased some. I’ll be putting up these up on my blog sale (because I may or may not have purchased back ups–I’ll never confess) in case you’re interested so check it out. Thanks for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.
