Sunday Hunting

I don’t know why I’m watching a NOVA documentary about lizards in Australia, but it’s actually really interesting despite my fear of them. I do hate any kind of lizards, reptiles, frogs and anything with feathers. Oh, and alpacas. Alpacas freak the crap out of me. I don’t know where my aversion to so many animals comes from, but I start to get agitated when I think of being close to any of the animals I mentioned.  Before I start freaking myself out, I’ll move on to the polish part of my post.

I decided that today would be a dusty hunting day. I have about 3-4 nail places that I go to regularly for all the new collections (OPI, Essie, Jessica, Color Club, Sation, Orly), but a couple of them also have pretty ancient  polishes that I love to sort through when I have the time, patience and dust mask. They are called dusties for a reason! So I went to two of my usual places but I didn’t see anything that I really wanted. They are seriously lagging on getting their shipments of Essie which is what I wanted to check out.  I went to another beauty supply that I’ve only been to once just to see if anything had changed. The owner (I’m assuming she’s the owner) is a see you next tuesday. She is so rude that I couldn’t believe it when I first went in there. At first she ignored me and then she followed me around like I was going to steal something. Then she kept asking me: “what do you want?” Ok, part of it was that her English wasn’t very good so I figured that she meant to ask if I needed anything so I wasn’t offended. Once I found a bunch of stuff I wanted, she was nice to me but I was so annoyed that I hadn’t been back since. I guess I decided to give this place another try because I really wanted to see if they had any old interesting polishes. Well, let me tell you that I seriously scored. I found some OPI Designer Series polishes…not the new ones that are glitterbombs or scattered holos. I’m talking about the original DS line that were linear holos. I saw a bunch of the silver caps and figured they were just the usual DS polishes until I got closer and saw the liner holo. I seriously almost shit my pants with excitement and started grabbing them like my life depended on it. One of the employees came over and eyed me like I was insane, and he starts to tell me that those are more expensive than the usual OPI because they are holo. He looks at me like he wonders if I’m going to change my mind once I find out the price which he informs me is $8. $8!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For OPI linear holos. I wish they had more colors, but they only had the colors that I ended up purchasing. Freaking A I was happy. My linear holo experience is limited to the way pricey Layla Hologram Effect line so I am super happy to have found these.  Afterwards, I headed to my FAVORITE nail place and I purchased a few China Glaze polishes and some super oldies from American Classic and Color Club. The Color Club colors weren’t that interesting but I wanted them for the old vintage bottles. Since they were dirt cheap, I didn’t care that the colors weren’t too exciting . I probably will still try them out since they are both neons and neons are so IN right now.

Sorry about the verbal diarrhea…I just really got excited about those freaking OPI holos. Here are some hoard pics.

And lastly, here is some food porn:

In-N-Out really is the best thing in California. Don’t fight me on this because you will lose.

So how was your weekend?

I loooove that Nubar polish! They're kind of underrated sometimes, but since I'm a sparkle freak they're one of my favorite low-cost brands. The OPI Radiant looks awesome!

    1. I really love nubar and I agree that they don't get as much love as they should. I became a harcore fan after they put out the Chanel dupe collection Blue Jeans. I also liked their Jellybeans collection.

I can't want to try Radiant! I'm treating it like gold. 🙂

    1. Ahhhh…yeah. I'm kind of used to it in that part of town. It's like they're all like that which sucks. But I can imagine that they do get a lot of shoplifters so that must suck too. The places I go to frequently always hold stuff for me or show me the best stuff so they make up for it. I just better not let them know I'm cheating on them with other stores. lol

    1. These were the only polishes I didn't initially get from the On Safari collection but I broke down after seeing all the beautiful swatches. They are so pretty.

My cousin is from NJ and when she came out here I took her there and she wasn't THAT impressed. Blasphemy! lol

      1. Lollol ill have to visit my gf too then and try it out! Thats where im from too 🙂 And thats so funny because the teal, maroon and these two were the only ones i wanted in that collection 🙂

  2. I've never had an In n Out burger. I feel like a savage now! It looks really yummy.

You DS's make me want to wear a DS polish today! I happen to have both of those and you will love them! Sapphire is a little sheer but it's worth it.

    1. In N Out is expanding slowly…it's such a California place and definitely has a cult following. They are so yummy.

I think I am most excited about Sapphire! I did a quick one finger swatch and I love how these dry.

      1. Oh, I know it. Every time I go to Vegas, we take a cab straight from the airport to In-N-Out lol and when I go back home to CA, I eat there at least 3 times a week. Fuck the caloric content. SO WORTH IT.

    1. Thank you! They really are pretty.

OMG I loooooooooooooove sushi. Whenever I go to my favorite sushi place, we call it sushicoma because we eat so much that we are almost comatose by the end.

  4. Man, I was actually getting excited reading the first part of this post! I was vicariously living through the thrill of the hunt!
What's up with those shop owners? Maybe they had a bad experience in the past that makes them so wary, but if not, why bother owning a place if you're going to run it like that?
Hahahaha…someone caved and got the Safari glitters!!!
    I have Nubar 2010…I don't think I've used it. I really haven't liked the Nubars I've tried.
Oh, I will not fight you on that. I think I last had In-N-Out…maybe a week-ish ago? LOL. Now I'm going to want it again…THANKS A LOT, FOOD PORN!

    1. It's so fun for me to do that because I usually don't spend much money if I stick to the really old polishes. The Little Saigon area of OC is so much fun for me, Most of the shops are dingy, cramped and disorganized but I still love them. Plus, I can always find a really yummy place to eat Pho. lol I don't know what's up with them either. I guess they do have a lot of shoplifting so I can understand that they want to minimize that. But it sure is annoying/insulting. I usually just ignore it but when they are following me around AND are rude to boot, that makes me want to punch them. One of my friends (who is Vietnamese) told me that if you're not Asian, sometimes they change prices on you and charge you more or they're not as nice. I haven't really encountered that but some people swear it's true.

Nubar has some really awesome polishes in their older collections. Yes, I caved on the On Safari glitters. I'm such a loser. lol

In-N-Out…only Californians understand what this place is. lol Someone kept telling me that Five Guys was way better. I don't think so. I tried it and it doesn't compare at all.

      1. OMG…hell to the no on Five GUys! They opened one here and it is always packed to the gills. I finally tried it one day and was like, what the hell is the big deal all about? I wouldn't go back, to be honest. Definitely not comparable.

        1. I felt the same way after eating there. Once was enough for me. I felt so stuffed I wanted to barf. I really want to go to Philly for the authentic philly cheesesteak. I would make a trip just for that. 🙂 I think I need to stop talking about food. Oh, one last thing about food: How do you feel about deep dish pizza? Like Chicago deep dish.

  5. I so want I’m not lion and I herd that, they look gorgeous I can’t wait to see you try em out. I have friend from CA who always talked about In N Out 😀

        1. Pffft…I am such a collection whore. I always want every color even if I don’t particularly need it. It’s the crazy collector in me.

I loved reading your post as always 😀
I am so happy for you, the DS OPI look amazing !
Because of you, I am hungry 😉

    1. I think I am just incredibly lucky when it comes to the stores I have in my area. I really like to dig in and just spend eons looking through every single bottle. I think the store owners think I'm crazy. 🙂

One of my main allergies is dust/dust mites so it is seriously painful to be in there that long so when I score something like this, it makes it all worthwhile!

  10. Your polish escapades make me soooo jealous!! I love those DSs you got! 8 bucks… No problem!! And I like those old CC bottles and the mood polishes and the nubar… and how I'm hungry. And it's almost 2am. :-/

    1. Oh and I agree on the lizards and feathers only I want to expand it to anything w wings. Flying insects make me want to die I'm so scared of/ grossed out by them. 🙁

    2. LOL…sorry for making you hungry. I am so incredibly addicted to getting super old polishes. I am so drawn to them. I am going on a no-buy again and this time I'm going to stick to it. I'm going to take it 2 weeks at a time and see how long I can keep it going. (Don't laugh…I really am going to try!)

  12. Ran out of replies again!
I really had to try hard not to get In N Out for lunch yesterday, haha.
Deep dish pizza is good every once in a while. There's a place here called Zachary's that is pretty delicious, but it is dangerous. You have one slice and you're like man, that's pretty good, I think I can have one more, and then you have that second one and you're like, OOF! Like stone in your stomach. Pizza in general, however, is highly acceptable 🙂

    1. I am definitely a pizza fanatic but I HATE deep dish pizza. HATE. It's just too much. I love naples style pizza or nyc style pizza…I'm getting hungry. There is this really awesome pizza place in Salt Lake City (which I went to when I was there for work) and it's sooooo good. They just opened up another place in Pasadena but I haven't been up there yet. Dang it…now I want pizza….

      1. NYC style is my favorite. I grew up in Jersey (and I am Italian, therefore I am required to watch all Italians-in-Jersey reality shows, lol) and remember getting the thin-crust kind from this place on the corner. There is an Amici's here (specialize in NY pizza) and I can just DESTROY those pizzas! Half in a sitting, no problem!

        1. Oh no…Jersey girl. lol I have family in NJ but haven't gone out there yet. I actually never knew them until like 2 years ago when we met on Facebook…it was so weird and so cool! One of them came out to visit and stayed with me. We had a blast.

You know…I have tried Amici's and it's like…I dunno…I wasn't that impressed. Damnit…I am going to have to get pizza for dinner.
