Sally Hansen HD Hi-Definition Nail Color Review

As I previously posted, I bought a few Sally Hansen polishes that I found on sale at Rite-Aid. I was really excited by the beautiful duochrome effect that I saw in the bottles but I know better by now: sometimes you see duochrome in the bottle and none of it shows up on your nails. The duochrome was very hard to photograph but I managed to get some shot of it. I had to use 4 coats of polish in order to get the results below. I’ve mentioned before that anything over 2 coats starts to annoy me so 4 coats is way too much. The only redeeming quality is the quick dry time. I’d also like to mention that I found the brush very awkward to use. It was really long and the handle was not that comfortable.

Byte is a hot pink that seems to have some lilac sparkle in it but it is almost completely lost on the nail. It’s a pretty color but not terribly exciting. It seems more juvenile

DVD is maybe my favorite from the polishes I purchased. The duochrome effect is so pretty on this one and it actually came out in my pictures.

Spectrum is pretty is you like turquoise. As you can see, it’s pretty bright and sparkly.

Laser is the darkest of the polishes and the most opaque. I like the brightness of this color even if the duochrome isn’t the strongest in these pictures. In real life, you can definitely see it much better.

Overall I liked these polishes. I do not regret purchasing them since I got them dirt cheap, but I would not purchase them at full price. These were really made to layer over colors so I’ll be trying that out later. If you like these colors, I would recommend that you head over to Rite-Aid while they are still 75% off.

  1. So pretty! I was at CVS tonight and I went to look at these after I saw your swatches but they were 6.99 and I wasn't going to shell out 6.99 for sally Hanson. Bummer.

    1. That's too bad! I do think they are way toooooo pricey at $6.99 for this quality. I think even the bottle feels cheap if that makes sense. The colors are pretty but they require too much work if you want to wear them alone. I actually left the last swatch on and forgot to take it off. About 5 hours later, I accidentally scratched my nail and it still felt wet…like chewy and they scraped off. It was weird because I had used seche vite so they should have been totally dry.

  2. That's totally weird what you said about the drying above. ODD!! I like the purpley/blue one that is most duochromish but the others are like… nothing to shout about. And I would definitely not buy them for $7, but I would get that one for 75% off if I'd seen em at Rite Aid when everything was on sale! Pretty colors but unremarkable. Speaking of Seche, have you ever experienced shrinkage? I never had but I think I just did with ChG Electrify! It's so weird.

    1. You know, I did get shrinkage when I first started using Seche. I think maybe it didn't agree with my basecoat. Also, Seche Vite makes For Audrey peel off my nails…it's the weirdest thing and only happens with random polishes. I've been wanting to try Poshé because I hear it's also a great fast-dry shiny topcoat and I grabbed one a few weeks ago…or so I thought. I had actually grabbed something right next to it…some other brand topcoat and it SUCKED. I was so mad. I have that huge professional size of Seche Vite so I have a lot before I really need to buy more. I love Seche Restore….not just for Seche Vite but to thin/restore any of my other polishes.

      1. Have you tried the regular Beauty Secrets (might be Sally store brand idk for sure) polish thinner? That's what I use and it works great, does the Seche work better? Yeah it's the weirdest thing, but I was just swatching Electrify and then left it on, so I didn't wrap my tips or anything so I was thinking maybe that was why it happened. Now I'm gonna experiment with other polishes to see what happens. It works fine with my For Audrey! Weee-eeeird!

  5. DVS and Laser look really pretty, but not for $6.99 >.< I've almost bought them a couple of times, but they are sooo over priced when they are not on sale. I shell out a lot more for other brand polishes, but Sally's isnt really a "high end" brand to be wearing a $6.99 sticker price.
