Growing Out My Nails

Let me get this out before I continue: I HATE long nails.  Rather, I hate the feeling of long nails. I certainly admire long nails (not the talon kind because those give me the heebie jeebies) on other women but I just don’t have the patience to grow mine out. I dread that feeling of bumping my nail on something and feeling it bend back; that’s as bad as nails on a chalkboard. Recently I decided to grow out my nails and see how long I could stand it. Well, this is what just happened earlier today:

Freaking A! What do I do? First I used some nail glue and I brushed it on the nail where it’s broken. That seems to work until I start doing some dishes. I went online and I found some stuff called Clear Liquid Bandage by Nail-Aid. Since I didn’t want to go around hunting this stuff down, I went to Rite-Aid to see if I could find anything else.

By the way, if you have tried this liquid bandage stuff, please let me know how you like it. I hate buying stuff randomly. I mean, it’s not that expensive or anything but hearing some opinions always helps.

So I ended up purchasing some stuff from Sally Hansen.

This does not seem to be a fix for a broken nail but I already applied it and it became a hard coat over my broken nail. I guess I will have to wait and see what happens after a day or so of showers and dishes. I really hope this helps otherwise I’m cutting my nails pronto. I have  long nailbeds so I’m lucky that even when I cut them short, they look somewhat long once they are polished.

Here’s to growing out long nails! (not the talon kind, please!!!!)

  1. Ugh… I'm with you about long nails!! I recently have decided I like mine a little longer than I used to (like just even with the tip of my finger or just a hair past the tip) but I seriously hate long nails. I don't even like them on other people very much! Haha. Is that totally bad of me?? I like short nails. Whenever I see someone with nails that are quite far past their fingertips I just think of how weird nails feel and when they don't have nail polish on what their nails look like… ick. And you're right, if they're really long they do that weird bending thing… double ick.

About your broken nail- I guess it's no surprise that I would say "cut it" haha, but what I've done in the distant past is cut a teeny piece of coffee filter and use topcoat to glue it over the break and then add more topcoat and then polish over it. I remember it working just fine, maybe you could try that if you don't want to cut it. Good luck!

    1. The more I thought about it, I kept wondering WHY I was torturing myself by trying to grow out my nails. Long nails were not meant for me so I cut them down to the nub! I feel so liberated. I know you understand me! 🙂

  3. There is a method of repairing broken nails using a tea bag (the actual bag that holds the tea lol) and basically gluing it onto your nails…sayanythingbr00ke on youtube has a tutorial, as do several others I'm sure 🙂

    1. Hi Sarah! I did hear about that and looked it up but it seems like too much for me. lol I've come to the conclusion that I just can't have long nails ever.

  5. I love Nail-Aid liquid bandage. It held my cracked right index nail together through a month of Christmas baking until I could file it to a reasonable length (I do like mine longer, not talons, but definitely longer than yours). I knew I was good, but that was the Iron Woman Triathlon for nail repair. At the moment I’m royally peeved because their website is closed for updating and I’m down to less than half a bottle. I found your site trying to find it for sale elsewhere.
