Contrary Polish Ain’t That A Beach Trio

PurchasedMyself

Great Odin’s raven, it’s hot and muggy today–the worst combination.

Milk was definitely a bad choice.

I literally started sweating as soon as I walked out of the office and I kind of wanted to run back into the building. Holy hell, I wanted to go back into the miserable building where I work?! I guess it really is that hot. Besided the disgusting heat, I am still freaking sick! Ugh…I can’t take this anymore. I can’t afford to miss work anymore and I’m pretty sure they’re going to fire me if I keep missing work. It’s not like I’m just being an asshole and deciding to call in sick for no good reason, but I still can’t continue to call in sick even though I am sick. Anyway, I guess I’ll just have to deal with it. Despite the disgusting heat, I am super excited about the wonderful polishes that I am about to show you. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but this is my first Contrary Polish purchase. WHAAAAAAAAAT? I know what you’re thinking. I have no excuse except to say that I just get so overwhelmed with all the gorgeous indie polishes out there that I just don’t even know where to start. When I first saw swatches for the Contrary Polish Ain’t That A Beach Trio, I kind of went nuts for them.Β  Being that it’s my first experience with Contrary Polish, I decided to order minis. Let me show you how gorgeous these are:

Sand 1

Sand 2

Sand 3

Sand is such an awesome neutral. Seriously….look at it! I found that the formula was nice but somewhat thin. I think I also experienced some problems with application because the brush on this polish was useless. It was like twisted and wonky so it really didn’t promote easy application. What a bummer. Is it just me or do mini bottles always have the worst brushes? Anyway, I still love this polish despite the craptacular brush. I applied 3 coats for the swatches above.

Sky 1

Sky 2

Sky 3

When I applied Sky, I think I heard the angels singing. What an incredibly gorgeous blue! Once again, the brush was a pain in the ass on this bottle so the application was somewhat problematic. The formula was nice and pigmented and I applied 3 thin coats. I suspect that two regular coats would have been enough if I had a workable brush.

Surf 1

Surf 2

Surf 3

I think that Surf is my favorite of the bunch but not by much since I love all three. The brush on this bottle seemed normal and flat so I don’t have anything bad to say about it. I just can’t get over how gorgeous this polish is. That color, that shimmer….ghhhaaaaaaaaaa! If there is one polish from this collection that you must get….IT’S ALL THREE OF THEM.

So what do you think of this lovely trio? Have you tried any other Contrary Polish beauties? If you’re interested in purchasing some minis, Carrie, the genius behind Contrary Polish, sells them on her blog on Fridays. You can check them out here. If you want to purchase a full size bottle, you can check at the following stockists: Llarowe, Femme Fatale Cosmetics and Shoppe Eclecticco.

Anyway, I hope I’ve created a brand new circle of enabling. I’m sorry and you’re welcome! Thanks for stopping by today and stay cool!

P.S. What do you think of the new site design? I’m not done with it yet. I think I need a nice header and maybe a cool background or something.

  1. POLISHES: i loved them. surf is my favorite.

BEING SICK: i’m still sick too.. today i was coughing my heart out.. i was on a meeting, very important one (at least it was only with people of the office) and every time i wanted to say something important.. i started like: well i think we.. cough cough cough, my face red, tears on my cheeks and people staring at me.. i ended up sending mails every time i wanted to say something so someone could read what i wanted to say..

NEW BLOG DESIGN: i love the fact the background is white, i love white backgrounds.. the background is perfect like this.. but agree with the header.. you need a nice header .. maybe you can create a logo for Of life and lacquer, and the acetone slogan (which is the first thing that caught my attention into your blog, i felt like i was going to read a novel from a polish dreamland, LOL)

  2. I’m liking the new site look. πŸ™‚
And I’m sorry you’re sick FEEL BETTER! :), but I have to say, I find a little tiny beacon of joy when I can read your complaints of the weather and know that it is exactly what I’ve been thinking literally all day every day.

OMG Love. I have an Indie addiction right now, but my friend put me on a no buy until I use every single polish I own and document it.

  3. gahhhh so beautiful! i want them all! i’ve been resisting contrary polish for awhile but maybe it’s time to give in.
on a side note, i love that you quoted anchorman, hahaha – perfect.

    1. Oh my God, Anchorman is like a recurring theme on my blog. I wish I could remember which post it was, but the comments were like literally ALL ABOUT Anchorman. I can quote whole scenes verbatim. I am dying for the new movie to come out. I love lamp.

And regarding the polish: yes, you must try them. Have you seen the new trio that she is debuting? I’m dying for them.

  4. I like the neutral shade “Sand.” I have yet to find a neutral shade flattering to my complexion but I’m hopeful.

I love the new site, it’s sooooo reader friendly. I love looking at all the different geographical locations of your readers, which is now at the bottom of the page.

Great job reinventing your blog site!

  5. Wooo, Sky is definitely my fave! I’ve been getting into bright blues a lot lately. Wow, love the new layout btw, I came over here & was instantly confused for about 5 seconds. It’s just been one of those days πŸ˜‰ I also wanted to stop by & let you know I’m participating with A Girl Obsessed and several others in her 1k FB likes giveaway! My prizes are a couple of mini holos and a full size custom of my new shiz, so go entre. Andele!

  6. I love the new website layout and love Contrary Polish! I only have two. So far. I love these blue ones…
Mini brushes are always horrid. But I have a solution!
    1. Clean an empty top/basecoat bottle by shaking some acetone in it. Air dry.
    2. Use clean brush for application of mini polishes.
    3. Clean the brush with acetone in the empty bottle. Air dry.
    4. Keep for future applications of minis, yay!

  7. Ooooh these are pretty! I think I like the dark blue the best. I pretty much avoid mini bottles like the plague because the tiny bottle coupled w the tiny brush just does nothing for me. I can’t stand a bad brush. You CLEARLY were sick when you wrote this, thinking work was a better place to be than out on the sweltering heat.

    1. I’m usually the same way with all minis, but I just used the Lush Lacquer minis and they were pretty great. I just ordered another trio of these so I hope the brushes aren’t all jacked on them. I am in absolute love with these polishes…new brand love!

    1. I don’t remember how I initially heard about Contrary Polish and it took me a while to buy some but now that I did, I am afraid I am completely smitten.

  8. Umm..Surf, hello, there gorgeous! Sand, you ain’t so bad lookin’, either, and, oh, hell, I like you too, Sky. Too bad about the wonktastic brush, though. :/
“If there is one polish from this collection that you must get….IT’S ALL THREE OF THEM.” Truer words have never been spoken, hahaha.
