China Glaze Crinkled Chrome – Don’t Be Foiled

PurchasedMyself

Happy Tuesday everyone! I think I’m feeling a little giddy right now because I am suffering from exhaustion even though I’m denying it. My work schedule has changed again so I am back to working at the buttcrack of dawn which is pretty brutal when you’re NOT a morning person like me. I know it’s going to take me some time to get back into the groove of things, so I may act a little cray cray here and there.Β  So….I don’t know where to start today. When I first saw images of these polishes from CosmoProf, I am not going to lie, I was horrified. When I started seeing swatches pop up, I thought I was going to barf. When I saw that my Sally’s had these polishes, I told myself that I would take one for the team and buy *one* to try out.Β  Well, today I have the demonic spawn of popcorn texture polish and feather-like glitter polish to share with you. Its unholy name is China Glaze Crinkled Chrome in Don’t Be Foiled. Yeah, more like Don’t Be Fooled…into buying this polish. Before I get into, let’s take a look at the polish.

Chine Glaze Don't Be Foiled 1aChine Glaze Don't Be Foiled 2I should have known to stay away after all the swatches I had seen online. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN! When I asked my nail guy when he was getting this collection, he told me that he wasn’t going to order them because they are β€œugly and weird and [he] would never be able to sell them off.”  Even that didn’t completely deter me.Β  When I saw that Sally’s had these, I figured that I might as well buy one to try out because how bad could they be? Holy crap, this polish is hideous.Β  To start with, I already hate chrome and metallic finishes so it had one strike against it before I even tried it out. Then this super strange combination of hairy bar glitter and some bead texture just makes it look incredibly odd. You want to know what it reminds me of? Cultures growing on a petri dish. To top it all off, the formula on this is absolutely atrocious. It dries way too quickly so it gets super goopy while you’re still trying to apply it. Since the formula is rather opaque, you can get away with just one coat so that will eliminate the issues that arise when you want to apply a second coat.

I don’t think I really need to say this, but I’ll say it anyway: I absolute abhor this polish. These Crinkled Chrome polishes need to be banished to the 9th circle of hell where they can entertain Satan. You may think I’m being overly dramatic here, but I just can’t contain myself because I adore China Glaze and then they do this to me? Yes, I take it personally. I always look forward to new China Glaze releases, and now I’m starting to feel scared before I click on a link purporting to have some sneak peeks of upcoming collections. I know a lot of people out there are calling these β€œinteresting” and β€œunique.” I can agree with that if they mean β€œinterestingly vomiticious” and β€œuniquely horrifying.” However, I can concede that there may be some people who actually like these. They are probably the same people who like Crocs.Β  Now I’m really hoping that the Sea Goddess collection makes up for this bitter disappointment, but I’m not going to hold my breath. Traditionally, China Glaze puts out my favorite Fall collection so at least I have that to look forward to. Sooo….what do you think about this polish? Please let me know because I am very curious to know if I’m the only one who feels this way. Thanks so much for stopping by, and I will talk to you soon.

P.S. If anyone wants this, pay me $3 for shipping and it’s yours.

  1. Oh my gosh, the first thing I thought of when looking at swatches of these was “blood augers.” So glad I’m not the only one reminded of bacterial growth!

  2. I really hate this, I saw swatches a couple weeks ago and was disgusted. That’s so funny, i said the same thing, it looked like a bacteria culture lol

  3. LOL! I am one of the rare few apparently that actually likes these crinkled chromes. (DEFINITELY do NOT like Crocs, though.) I love the look of the texture, it looks grungy-chic, and I’m pretty grungy so it appeals to me. Probably going to give Sally’s a visit to see these up close.

    1. I’m glad you don’t like Crocs, really glad! πŸ˜‰ I can definitely see people liking these because well, we all like different things and how boring would the world be if we all had the same taste/likes. I think I’m mostly creeped out by the look of these because they remind me of bacterial growth. It’s just too much for me!

  4. This looks like polish I used to toss out. I love chromes but they should be smooth and glossy and this is disgusting and horrid. I can’t believe that not only did someone think this might be an okay idea but that a whole board of directors voted on this and it passed into production! I wouldn’t take this if it were free. And that comes from an obsessive/compulsive polish hoarder. I seriously own everything drugstore – but this is Blecch.

    1. LOL…can you tell me how you really feel? πŸ˜› As you know, I feel the exact same way except I actually went out and bought a bottle because I guess I’m a polish masochist. I guess I’m glad I got to try it out so I’m not still curious about it.

  5. Yikes. That’s… uh… wow. Not sure what they were going for with this. I mean, I guess they’re trying to be innovative, but this is just not working for me. If the texture was more consistent across the nail, MAYBE. As it is, it’s so random that it looks like you really screwed up when you were applying it. As someone who is bothered by the streaks in frosty polishes, I can’t stand for that kind of inconsistency. I like textured polishes, but this is just… wrong. Nice try, China Glaze, but it needs a LOT of work.

    1. I am always all for taking risks and being innovative, but I have no idea how these polishes made it through. I’m sure there will be some people who like these, but I think that overwhelmingly these are going to be reviled.

  6. Horrible!!!! I cannot believe they actually made this.

Once again I would really like your recommendation on a polish. I’m looking for a bright/cobalt (not neon) blue such as Essie’s Butler Please or Revlon Royal that does not stain the nails. The only bright blue I’ve used is Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue Me Away but have not tried any other blues since my fingers were horribly stained.

    1. I have the Essie polish you are referring to. If you will use a double coat of Poshe (I think it is strengthening base coat) in the blue bottle it did not stain my nails. And it also worked with all the Tiffany blues and turquoises as well. Good Luck
P.S. You can get that base coat at Ulta or ebay.

    2. I have had both of those. I do like OPI Dating a Royal and Nails Inc Baker Street. I think that if you have polishes that stain, wearing a good couple layers of top coats minimizes staining. πŸ™‚

  7. Horrible!!!! I cannot believe they actually made this.

  8. Ugh, I hate these too! They remind me of the foil wrappers that come on the chocolates that you get at the dollar stores. And knowing what that chocolate taste like, its not a good thing. I almost did a spit take at that Crocs comment, are those even still made? haha I always look forward to your post, I’m guaranteed to be entertained πŸ™‚

  9. I don’t think they are SO bad to be abhorrent. The silver one is my least favorite though – I like the lilac-y silver shade best (the texture looks most “wrong” with the platinum silver you swatch here). I realize they aren’t for everyone, though, and I am a gal who loves me a texture. But I don’t think they’re so terrible. Even here I think your swatches look good πŸ˜‰

    1. Well, thank you! πŸ™‚ I think they start to look more lumpy with a second coat which I liked even less. I’m sure more people will agree with you.

  10. I am really sorry about the work schedule change!!

For what it is worth, your swatch makes this look as good as it can…

  11. I did the same as you…. Bought one because I just had to see if for myself. I only put it on one nail and HATED it!! I’ll never know what CG was thinking with the release of this line!

  12. Come on, take a second one for the team. Do nail art with this and “There’s Snow One Like You.” I dare you. DOOO EEEEEEEEETTTTTTT ;D

    1. LOL!!!! I love the idea, but I got rid of There’s Snow One Like You a while back which I kind of regretted when I thought of doing a mani with it and Essie Belugaria–except I like Belugaria. haha I guess I could try to do “nail art” or “nail barf” with this one. Hmmmm….

  13. This doesn’t look that bad at all. It reminds me of the Winter season: icicles, snowflakes… but then again I’m not a nail polish fanatic. Btw, I do like my crocs!!! Forget about how they look; they are so comfy!!! >.<

  14. Well, I don’t have much to say, other than I thoroughly enjoyed this post. My favorite parts were about your nail guy saying they are weird and ugly and the Crocs comment.
Enjoyed reading all the comments, too. At least your readers aren’t drinking the “interesting/different” Kool Aid…they either like it or hate it!

    1. And you know I thoroughly enjoyed writing this post. πŸ˜€ Don’t you just love my nail guy? lol He cracks me up even when he’s not trying to be funny.

  15. Well, I have a pair of Crocs. I use them as slippers in my garden, where no one can see me or my shoes. I would never go out in the public with those. As I would not never wear this fugly polish in public. Actually I wouldn’t wear this polish at all. Never ever. It’s hideous!!
