Precision Twilight Zone

Precision Twilight Zone

self purchased

Do you remember watching The Twilight Zone when you were a kid? Omg…I used to live for The Twilight Zone and I Love Lucy marathons that would run during Thanksgiving weekend. I haven’t caught them on TV in ages, so it makes me sad to think that maybe no one watches these shows anymore. Ugh…sometimes I sound so old, don’t I? You can usually catch me talking about the “good old days” before we had the internet and we used to actually go outside to PLAY. PLAY!!! Do kids even know what that is anymore? It seems that all they want to do is play with their iPhones and other devices–major sadness.  The reason I started thinking about all that is because I have a very lovely polish to share with you: Précision Twilight Zone.

I don’t care what you say: Précision Twilight Zone is drop dead gorgeous. Well, if you’re on this blog then you probably really like nail polish and you will immediately fall in love with this polish so I don’t have to threaten you with bodily harm or anything.  This is such a beautiful deep raisin/aubergine color with some gorgeous scattered holo. The formula on this polish was really good as it covered at two coats. I found this at some random beauty supply along with Wine, Dine and Shine (which you can see here), and I wish I knew if these came from a scattered holo collection or what because I want them all!!! I always hesitate to feature polishes that are probably hard to find, but I just couldn’t keep this beauty all to myself.

Work wasn’t as crazy today so at least I had an ok day on that end, and I hope that I get more of the same tomorrow. It’s 6:30 now so that means that I should be taking a shower and then getting ready for bed…how pathetic. Anyway, I know I won’t actually got to bed so early since I still have to apply to at least 5 jobs. I know that if I keep focusing on being consistent with sending out resumes, I will find something soon so I can escape the 7th circle of hell which is my current job. Thanks for stopping by today! Catch you later.

Ruby Wing Summer Festival Paint Collection 2013

So, I had planned on waking up early so I could get some laundry done but I ended up NOT doing that and just being a lazy bum all morning while I watched a bunch of episodes of Doctor Who. I may be super new to the Doctor Who fan club but man this show is addictive. I’ve been humming that doooo weeeeeeeeee oooooooooo sound from the intro all morning.

I am totally feeling some Doctor Who nails coming on. Now that you think I’m a total weirdo, let’s talk polish again. Today I have two polishes from the Ruby Wing Summer Festival Paint Collection from 2013. This is not my first experience with solar color changing polish as some of you may remember my BBM (Blue Balls Manicure) which you can see here. I am glad to report that the formula for these Ruby Wing polishes is pretty great. I applied 1 thin coat and a second thicker coat for full coverage for both of these polishes. I am sorry for the really horrid pictures of the polishes out in the sun: I don’t know why my camera decided to take 5 dumps on me any time I tried to take pictures in direct sunlight. The polish top coat looks kind of streaky even though it wasn’t at all. Ugh…so frustrating! Believe it or not, those were the best pictures I ended up with so I just had to suck it up and use them.

Overall, I think these are super fun colors and I think they are worth picking up if you like the whole idea of color changing polishes. As I mentioned before, the formula on these polishes is pretty great as well. There are a total of 6 polishes in the Summer Festival Collection, and I think I am going to have to pick up Eternal because it is the most amazing turquoise changing to grey polish!!! I’m in love with it! My greasy looking hands are really bugging me in these pictures today!! I need to find a better way to moisturize before taking swatch pictures that don’t make me look like I dipped my hands in a tub of lard. I guess I’d rather have over-moisturized hands than crusty, ragged or flaking cuticles. Amirite? No one needs to see that!

Cacee BFF Nail Lacquer Isabelle

self purchased

When I was trying to decide what color to paint my nails today, I first pulled out Clinique Really Rio and after I applied it, the pictures ended up looking like a big pile of turds wrapped in burnt hair. I think that color looks amazing in the bottle, but it looks horrid on my skin tone. Maybe it was just one of those days when nothing seems to photograph correctly so I ended up removing it and looked for another polish. Well, I decided to go with an untried green: Cacee BFF Nail Lacquer Isabelle. Let me tell you a little bit about why I chose this color today specifically. I remembered discussing the significance of the color green with my American Literature professor (yes, the previously mentioned professor that I wanted to brain bone when I was 17).  We were talking about the significance of the green light of at the end of the dock at Daisy’s house and how longingly Gatsby admired it and reached for it–instilling his hope and idealism into that vapid and flighty woman who did not deserve to be on the pedestal he had placed her on. Green is the color of hope, balance and harmony and boy am I in need of some of that in my life right now.

DSC03375

DSC03377

Cacee BFF Nail Lacquer Isabelle is a neonish green polish that dries to a satiny finish. Upon first application, the polish seemed incredibly thin which gave me flashbacks from using Essie Shake Your $$ Maker. I think that Isabelle is a tad less vibrant but it’s pretty darn close, and it covers in three coats! You can still see some slight VNL, but I can live with that. I was just thinking to myself: Your life may suck donkey balls right now, but at least you have fabulous nails. I don’t know if that was meant to be a consolation or if it was just meant to make me laugh uncontrollably. Maybe that will be my lonely shriveled up piece of corn! (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read this. You’re welcome.)

I tried to do some stamping over this, but I was having such a turdy (yes, that’s my word!) time picking up the image that I just ended up giving up. I’ve been such a quitter today. I just wish I was able to quit the job that is the bane of my existence currently. I had a really crappy day at work today to the point that it took even fiber in my being not to burst into tears towards the end of the day. I told myself that if I made it through the day without going postal, I could treat myself by going to my nail places and loading up on some new polish. I was especially looking forward to getting the new Essie Summer Collection! I went to three of my main nail places and they told me that they still hadn’t received their shipments so that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I started sobbing in my car because I did get the new Essies. Ok, so it wasn’t really about the Essies but more about how disappointed I was with the fact that the one thing that could have potentially cheered me up momentarily wasn’t available. It was both pathetic and kind of hilarious…especially since I’m such an ugly crier a la Dawson. (Maria–you get this!)

Anyway, it always makes me feel better to focus on doing my nails because it forces me not to be such a downer, and I stop focusing on everything that’s bothering me. I also want to thank the amazing group of ladies on Siobahn’s email from earlier today. We may have never met (yet!), but you are all amazing. Thank you for all the support and crazy laughs even if we are all going to hell in a hand basket. I’m really glad that I don’t have to work tomorrow because I seriously need a mental health day–STAT! Thanks for reading despite my total downer posts lately. I hope this is just a little slump that I’m going through since this time of year brings around memories of dark times. Despite this, I really am eons ahead of where I was two years ago so this give me hope that not everything is a big pile of shit. (Have you noticed how scatalogical my vocabulary is?)

Dollish Polish Toad-ally Awesome

Gift

I hope you’re all having a nice and long Memorial Day weekend if you’re in the states. Unfortunately, I am working today so I will live vicariously through you if you’re enjoying a three day weekend.  Work was actually really busy today and I had quite a few customers tell me that they were sorry that I had to work on Memorial Day. Well, I wish I could have told those customers to eff off because it is because of customers like them who continue to call us to bitch and moan on a holiday that we have to stay open. If they stopped calling on holidays, maybe we could be closed. Anyway, that’s just me being bitter about having to work when most people were out relaxing at a bbq or at the beach. I didn’t really have any time to do a mani to celebrate Memorial Day but I still stuck to a red white and blue theme! I decided to try a polish that Amy from The Fancy Side sent me last week. She is such a sweetheart and surprised me with this polish and another Dollish Polish baby that was on my wishlist. Thank you so much, Amy! You may remember my first post involving this collection and what a polish boner I got when I heard about it. You can see my original post of It’s A Me, Mario here. I just love Mario Bros. to bits so how couldn’t I love this whole collection??? Dollish Polish Toad-ally Awesome is, well, totally awesome!

1

I started with two perfect coats of LVX Phantom which is part of the LVX Summer 2013 Collection that I received for review. (You can see my review here.) I have mentioned it before, and I will say it again: this polish is white perfection!

I love this polish so hard. I only wish it had been easier to get the glitter bits out because I basically had to fish for the larger, white, blue and red pieces because otherwise all I was getting was the tiny blue and gold glitter.  I did shake it up well and also let it sit upside down for a while, but it didn’t help much. Ultimately, I don’t have a problem with fishing for the larger glitter since this seems to happen a lot with glitter bombs.

Since it is Memorial Day here in the states, I just wanted to say a couple of things. I know we are very divided when it comes to where our troops should be and our involvement in world affairs. No matter what you may think about all of this, there is nothing more despicable in my mind than to not support our troops who come back home. After working for many years at a job where I worked with a lot of vets who were trying to get their medical needs covered, the VA seems to be a total joke.  But then again, that can be said about our whole medical system as a whole. I just want to thank all those brave men and women who are fighting for us now and who have fought in the past: thank you for your service and sacrifices. Ok, off my soapbox!

Did you get a chance to create any patriotic manis?  Did you do anything fun today? Let me know what you think about this fun polish; are you also a Mario Bros. fanatic? Thanks for stopping by today!

NARS Pierre Hardy Duo – Ethno Run

self purchased

Woo hoo Friday! Oh, wait…I work tomorrow. Womp womp! I’m hoping that at least it won’t be too busy tomorrow, but knowing my luck, I’ll probably be slammed with work. If that’s the case, at least the day will go by a lot faster. I’ve been so incredibly tired lately, and I have no idea why. I’ve been trying to go to sleep a lot earlier, but I don’t always succeed because I start working on blog posts or reading other blogs and before I know it, it’s 10:00 pm and I’m fucked.  It really sucks having to wake up at 3:30 every morning, but I think I’m finally barely starting to get used to it after 4 months. It’s funny what your body and mind can start to get used to after months of torture.

Anyway, today I have the NARS Pierre Hardy Duo – Ethno Run which consists of an orange polish and a navy blue polish. When I was trying to decide what duo to purchase, this is the one that Daniel picked for me when we were celebrating “his birthday.”  Let’s look at my new NARS babies.

1

2

3

This orange shade is called Ethno Run Left. It is a very pigmented color, but it applied a little streaky at first. I recommend making sure that the first coat is dry before you apply the second coat because you can cause some polish dragging. This is a nice orange polish but not as saturated as some of my other favorite orange polishes since this is a yellow-leaning orange. It dries very shiny and glossy–so pretty!

4

5

6

Ethno Run Right is the other shade in this duo. Damn it’s dark and sultry! I did not notice that my application was a little uneven until I downloaded the pictures–you can see some lighter areas where the color of the polish really shines through. It’s such a glossy beauty that I can imagine this looking amazing in the Fall. I applied two thin coats here, but I think 2 thick coats would have been better. Sorry about the weird changing skin tone: every time I photograph a super dark polish, my camera makes my skin look a lot lighter than it actually is and I try not to mess with color correction so I leave it as is.

So what do you think about this pretty duo? I picked mine up at Sephora where they retail for $29 which is kind of a steal when you realize that each NARS polish will set you back $19 so you’re actually SAVING money. See how well I delude myself? Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend–have fun and be safe. Talk to you soon!

Color Club Kaleidoscope Collection For Summer 2013

Press Sample

Happy Thursday, everyone! Normally I’d be super excited that the weekend is almost here but weekends don’t mean much to me since I have to work. And to add insult to injury, I get the privilege of working on Memorial day. Woopdee-doo! Today I had a pretty normal (meaning not horrible) day at work mostly because I was carrying on a scandalous email exchange with a few ladies. I swear to God that the universe will implode if and when we all get to hang out together! After work, I went to look for the missing polishes from the Kaleidoscope collection. I received Evolution and Pearl-Spective for review from Color Club but since I’m so anal, I had to try to hunt down the other 4 polishes. Sadly, I am missing one from the collection and none of the 3 places I went to had it. So, I have 5 of the 6 polishes to share with you today from the Color Club Kaleidoscope Collection for Summer 2013.

1

2

3

Ok, so Endless is kind of a boring color for a Summer collection, don’t you think? Don’t get me wrong, I love pink but this color does not make me think of hot Summer beach days one bit. This baby pink also has a streak-a-riffic formula. It was so streaky and patchy that I had to apply 3 thick coats and the end result still wasn’t smooth despite a thick coat of Seche Vite at the end. The color is pretty and delicate, but the formula leaves a lot to be desired.

4

5

6

I felt like I had the sky on my nails when I wore Evolution. It’s such a beautiful sky blue–just right up my alley! I tried to apply this polish yesterday while I was still half blind from having my eyes dilated so the end result was kind of atrocious. The formula seemed really terrible and streaky so I added a couple of drops of thinner today to see if that would help it and it certainly did. While it was still a little thin, I only had to apply 2 coats here and it leveled out rather nicely.

7

8

9

Another gorgeous and pigmented blue to add to all the blues that have come out this year: Bright Night. Ok, I may be a tard, but I actually bought this like a month or two ago and ended up sending it to my friend Lesley–I didn’t even know that it was from an upcoming collection. hahahahaha! Anyway, this blue is very pretty and doesn’t stain at all which is a miracle considering how pigmented it is. It dries to a satin finish but I ended up applying a coat of Seche Vite since I like my manis shiny. The formula appears to be a little thin at first, but it covers well with two medium coats.

10

11

12

Here we have Bright Night with a coat of Pearl-Spective which is one of those flaky glitter polishes that flash all sorts of colors depending on the angle. I mostly see a pink/magenta/purple shift which is really pretty, but I unfortunately was not able to capture it too well here in my pictures.

13

14

15

And here we have my favorite color from this collection: Abyss. Ahhhh….it’s so pretty and aquatic! The formula on this is pretty darn pigmented so I only needed 2 thickish coats. However, something weird happened when I top coated it with Seche Vite: it got all streaky and wrinkled so I had to top coat it with something else and that agreed more with this polish. This is the second time I get some weird Seche Vite reaction so I’m pretty lost as to why this would happen with just one polish from the bunch. Oh well!

16

17

18

To finish up my swatches, here is Abyss with a coat of Pearl-Spective. Pretty, eh?

I mentioned that I am missing one polish from this collection which is In Theory: an orange/coral shade that I would have liked to try out. Sometimes, it’s just not meant to be so I will shed a tear for this elusive shade. One day we may meet, my pretty–one day! Overall, these colors are nice but they definitely don’t scream summer to me. Those two pastel colors seemed sorely out of place in a Summer collection. As you already know, I’m in love with Abyss and Pearl-Spective is a fun way to spruce up a mani.

So, if you’re in ‘Merica, do you have any plans for Memorial Day weekend? Normally I do have plans but not this year since I’m forced to work. Oh well. At least I have a job, right? Thanks so much for stopping by today and let me know what you think of this collection. Talk to you later.

Shimmer Polish Part 2

Press Sample

Hi friends! I think I had mentioned earlier in the week (or was it last week??) that I had gone in for an eye exam, and I was told that there could be an issue with my optic nerve so I had to make an appointment to get my eyes dilated so they could get a better look. Well, I dragged my friend with me so she could drive me since my vision would be impaired for a few hours after dilation. So it turns out that everything is just fine and that I may just have a larger optic nerve. They did recommend that I continue to have regular eye exams just in case anything changes, but I won’t need any follow up treatment. I was concerned about it because, as a person without health insurance, there is no way that I would be able to afford any further tests or treatments. I am always so disappointed with the state of health insurance here in the USA because we just don’t have the level of care that we need. Personally, I would not be able to purchase an individual plan for myself because of my medical/mental history–I’d be rejected so fast that my head would spin. That means that the only way I can currently get health insurance is through an employer policy and my shitastic job does not have those benefits. So here I am–without any health insurance for the first time in my life and it’s not a good feeling. Even when I did have insurance, I found out how horrid my coverage was after several hospitalizations. Anyway, who knows what’s going to happen when more things go into effect next year with the whole Obamacare thing–I just hope that we do get some kind of affordable plans because everyone deserves proper medical care!

I’ll get off my soapbox now and talk a little polish with you now. Today I am sharing another round of beautiful glitter polishes from Shimmer Polish. This time I decided to use colors from the Jessica Cosmetics Gelato Mio! Collection from Summer 2012. Let me tell you that I love that collection like I love cake–meaning a lot. They were the perfect base colors to show off these other 4 polishes. You can see my Part 1 review of Shimmer Polish beauties here. Anywho, this time I also decided to share a macro shot of the actual polishes so you can see what they look like in the bottle. Are you ready for a new glitter explosion feast for your nails AND eyes?

So what do you think about round 2 of Shimmer Polish swatches? Do you see any that you like? I am pretty obsessed with Jasmin and how it looks over Surfer Boyz’n Berry. As I stated in my previous review, all of these glitter polishes have a great formula that applies smoothly. The only one that was slightly testy was Vivian–it went on a little thick so I applied a little more than I initially wanted to. The combination also looks a lot like Valerie with Sation Heather from my previous Shimmer Polish post. Guess I really like that combination!

Chanel Taboo

self purchased

Total late night post tonight! Since I don’t work tomorrow, I’m being daring and staying up past 8 pm. Ohhhh….I live a very interesting life, don’t I? I met up with Daniel today so we could sorta celebrate his birthday. For being friends for so long, can you believe that I was totally thinking that he had just turned 34 but he just turned 35! Holy crap…that’s not good. Anyway, now I can really rag on him about being old. After our late lunch/early dinner, I dragged him with me to the mall and I ended buying a few things that I shouldn’t have. I should know better by now, right? Well, here I am showing you one of the lovely new babies I picked up today: Chanel Taboo.

1

2

3

Don’t you dare tell me that this isn’t a gorgeous polish because I just might have to stab you. I have to admit that I have been lusting over this polish since I first started seeing swatches online. Even though I have purchased more expensive polishes (I’m looking at you, Tom Ford!), I had been hesitating getting some Chanel polishes. Well, I am so glad that I did because this polish is pretty spectacular. The formula is crazy pigmented so you can get away with one coat if you apply it carefully. This polish is just beautiful, but I do have a couple of things to mention: the polish dried a little dull on me. I was not super shiny the way I had seen it described elsewhere but a coat of Seche fixed that right up. I also want to share that I was not that impressed with the Chanel brush. It’s so thin! For someone with large and wide nail beds, this is not the best kind of brush. In my opinion, OPI and Dior have the absolute best brushes out there.

So, today Daniel and I went to the infamous Boiling Crab where we gorged ourselves on boiled/seasoned shrimp and crawfish. Yes, this is the messiest meal on the planet, but it’s also soooooo good. I am a serious seafood lover so this is like my dream come true.

DSC03019

Just imagine what our hands looked like after this meal. Think about it real hard. hahaha After our meal, we wandered over to the mall where I proceeded to bore Daniel with the task of helping me pick out some nail polish. Yes, it was technically his birthday dinner and all, but nothing stands in the way of acquiring new polish babies. We played a bit with the NARS Pierre Hardy Duos at Sephora so he ended up picking the Ethno Run Duo for me.  So besides the Chanel splurge, I also got a NARS duo.

DSC03025

My polish weakness is shameful, but I will not let myself be defeated. I was recently mentioning on Twitter that I have once again outgrown my polish storage despite getting rid of close to half my stash earlier in the year. And this is despite me putting a lot of polishes up on my blog sale once I have swatched them.  Ridiculous, right? But I know some of you out there get me. Please tell me that you do!

Overall, I had a great time today: good food, great friend and awesome polishes. Who could ask for more? In case you are wondering, Chanel polishes retail for $27 each–steep, I know. How do you feel about paying so much for a luxury polish? I know we don’t necessarily like it, but how do you justify such purchases? What do you think of Chanel Taboo? Worth the price? Let me know…I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for stopping by today, and I will catch up with you later.

Let me ask you something: do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert? Personally, I think that I am rather outgoing and talkative but it seems that when people first meet me, they think the complete opposite. They think I’m quiet and maybe a little mean. Me?! Mean?!?!?!?! Ok, maybe I am a little blunt at times which can be misconstrued as maybe being mean? Then once people get to know me, they always say: “I thought you were totally different when I first met you!” In fact, one of my best friends told me that he thought I was a total bitch when he first met me. Sixteen years later we are still great friends and it was his birthday yesterday so happy birthday again, Daniel! You’re old!

Anyway, the reason why I was thinking about this is because we had to take a personality test at work and I just found it completely bogus. If you’ve ever taken one of those tests, you probably know what I’m talking about. In fact, I can liken it to getting your palm read because they throw out so much information that can pretty much apply to anyone in a weird roundabout way. Anyway, enough about dumb work stuff and on to the polish adoration!

Today I have the Nicole by OPI Gumdrops Collection. Hey, now….don’t groan about yet another sugared texture collection!  I haven’t quite had my fill of these textured confectioned polishes especially when they are super glittery and chunky. Since the formula on all of the polishes in this collection is the same, I’ll talk about it here: the formula on all of them is pretty great. I found them very easy to apply because the formula was very pigmented and dried super fast. I applied two coats for all my swatches and that gave me great coverage. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?

Overall, I liked this collection. I think that I was super excited about the chunky glitter in Candy Is Dandy and I Lilac Gumdrops, but the rest were the fine glittered texture. I feel that the colors in this collection are similar to a lot of other sugared/textured polishes that we have seen this year, but if you haven’t picked any of those up, I think these are a good option.

This limited edition collection will be available beginning May 2013 for $7.99 each at retailers including select Walmart (May 2013), CVS (June 2013), Rite Aid, Kmart, Kroger, Ulta, H-E-B, and Duane Reade locations (August 2013), In Canada, these shades wil be available for $10.99 each at Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart Canada (July 2013), Jean Coutu, Loblaw, and London Drug (August 2013).

So what do you think? Yay or nay? Have you had your fill of textured polishes yet? Thank so much for stopping by and I will talk to you soon!

Shimmer Polish Part 1

Guess what? I am a total mess because I just finished watching the series finale of The Office. I nearly had a heart attack when Michael showed up an uttered his signature line, “That’s what she said.” I seriously lost it at that point because he uttered it with so much emotion that I felt it touch me. Isn’t it funny how a television show can become a part of your life to the point where you feel like you almost know the characters and you look forward to catching up with them every week? Ok, I don’t want to sound like a total weirdo, but I know there are tons of The Office fans out there so you know how I feel. I felt this was a perfect way to end the show–I’m just say it’s the end of it. (I know Lesley and Amanda are shedding a tear with me right now!) So anyway, as I watched the last episode of The Office I had a bunch of polish out trying to decide what to swatch next so I decided to try some new pretties from Shimmer Polish. Those of you who have known me since the beginning of my blogging days–as if it were that long–know that I was a serious glitter hater. I used to cringe at the idea of wearing glitter polishes and a few people always teased me for it. (I’m looking at you, Nicole!) Then one day, it’s like something in my brain just clicked and I saw the error of my ways. All of a sudden, the more glittery and shiny something was, the more I loved it. Yes, ladies, I am reformed glitter hater.

I had seen so many lovely swatches of Shimmer Polishes all over the place so I am super excited to be sharing these with you today. I don’t normally like to wear glitterbombs on their own so I decided to layer these over a colored base. The formula on all of these polishes can be summed up in one word: delicious.  The glitter applies very smoothly and is plentiful; one coat gives you beautiful coverage over a colored base. If you want to wear these sparklers on their own, I do recommend applying one thin coat and then dabbing on a second coat to get even and full coverage. Let me show you these sparkling gems before I talk your ear off.

Shimmer Polish Alice (Sation Strumming My Nails)

Aren’t these gorgeous combinations? It pained me to remove them as I moved from swatch to swatch because they were all just so glittery and decadent. What is your preferred method for wearing glitterbombs? Do you layer them on top of colored bases like I did or do you just jump in full force and wear them alone? Do you have a favorite Shimmer Polish? Let me know!
