Pure Ice Citrus Collection – Summer 2013

Pure Ice Citrus Collection – Summer 2013

I don’t know where you are in the world, but I feel like we really haven’t seen a normal summer here in Southern California which leads me to think that we are going to be having a really horrid long summer where we will be sweltering in November. Don’t you hate it when it’s Thanksgiving and it’s hot as hell and you’re sweating your ass off while you prepare for the crazy dinner feast? I really hate that. I don’t, however, hate all the awesome polish colors that come out during the Summer. Today I’m going to show you two polishes from the Pure Ice Citrus Collection.

The Pure Ice Citrus collection includes four luminous shades:
  1. Showstopper – Crème primary yellow
  2. Drive Me Crazy – Crème flame orange
  3. Can’t Stop –  Crème rustic orange
  4. Excuse Me- Sunshine Yellow Shimmer

The two I have for you today are Drive Me Crazy and Excuse Me.

Pure Ice Excuse Me 1

Pure Ice Excuse Me 2I don’t know too many people who love yellow polishes the way I do, so I was kind of excited when I saw this yellow in promo pics. I think that because of my skintone, I can get away with wearing a lot of different colors. However, once I applied Pure Ice Excuse Me, it was barf city. This is a frosty/shimmer mess that makes me want to curse frosty polishes to the seventh circle of hell. The formula wasn’t THAT bad, but it was very easy to create bald spots so it is important to allow each coat dry before you apply a second…and third.

Pure Ice Drive Me Crazy 1

Pure Ice Drive Me Crazy 2Well, hello there beautiful! Pure Ice Drive Me Crazy is my kind of color: super bright, pigmented, smooth and glossy. This is almost like a crelly type polish so I noticed that although I got pretty good and even coverage with 2 coats, I still had VNL so I applied a third coat to make it more opaque. This polish had a pretty great formula so I have no complaints about it.

Are you ready to move on from all these hot Summer colors and ready for the darker side of Fall? Personally, I wear bright colors year-round so gimme more brights!!! What are some of your favorite Summer colors? How do you feel about yellow polishes in general? Anyway, thanks so much for catching up with me today, and I’ll talk to you soon!

China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection – Foils

China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection – Foils

You know how I said I was going to try to keep an open mind regarding the foils in the China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection? Aww! That’s so cute that you believed me. I actually did try to keep an open mind, but any time that I see metallic or foil-like polishes, I can’t deal with how disgusting they look on me. I don’t know if the metallic finish clashes with my dark skin…I have no idea, but I just want to barf all over my nails because even barf covering up the polish will be better. Anyway, since you already know that I am not a fan of the foil finish, it will come as no surprise that I am not a fan of the following four polishes. The formula on all four polishes was identical so I will talk about it after I show you my swatches.

China Glaze Goldie But Goodie 1China Glaze Goldie But Goodie 2China Glaze Goldie But Goodie

China Glaze Gossip Over Gimlets 1China Glaze Gossip Over Gimlets 2China Glaze Gossip Over Gimlets

China Glaze Rendezvous With You 1China Glaze Rendezvous With You 2China Glaze Rendezvous With You

China Glaze Strike Up A Cosmo 1China Glaze Strike Up A Cosmo 2China Glaze Strike Up A Cosmo

If I had to chose one polish from this collection that doesn’t make me want to rip out my nails with pliers, it would be Rendezvous With You mainly because it’s not as metallic-y as the other three. One thing that these polishes have going for them is that the formula is pretty great: it’s kind of thick, but it applies easily and the coverage is great. You do have to make sure that you work fast and that you don’t overwork the polish because they do tend to set quickly so you can definitely make them look gummy and lumpy if you go over the same spot too much.

To be perfectly honest, I think that a lot of people are going to like these because the colors are nice and the formula is pretty good…but I just can’t like them. This is completely about my personal preference so don’t let me taint you with my hate. So what do you think about foil polishes in general? Will you be getting any of these? I know Siobhan will be all over Goldie But Goodie since she is such a gold freak! Did you see my post of the two creme polishes from this collection? No? What?! Well click here to check them out!

I’m super curious to hear what you think of these and what you think of the collection so far. The last part of the collection is going to include the 6 shimmers which I hope I like better. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

So how was my first day on my new schedule you ask? Well, it was glorious in the sense that I didn’t want to cry when my alarm rang. However, I am now thoroughly aware–with every fiber in my being–that I am NOT a morning person. I hate waking up no matter how many hours I have slept. Last night I went to bed around 8:30 and I woke up at 6:00, but I was still kind of miserable. Clearly I have issues? Or do people really hate waking up as much as I do regardless of how much rest they have had? Anywho, I am still really happy about my new schedule, but I have realized that the fact that I don’t have to go to sleep super early means that I am now being exposed to a bunch of putrid primetime shows–namely The Bachelorette. Why am I watching this mindless drivel? It’s horrid and I want to stab my eyes out with dotting tools…yet I can’t turn it off. This is ridiculous!

Last night I mentioned that I would be swatching the Chine Glaze Autumn Nights Collection this week, and I already started. Since it is a 12 piece collection, I decided to break it up into 3 posts which are: the cremes, the shimmers and the foils. Unfortunately, this collection only has two cremes…two! I guess I can’t always have my way, but I wish they had more cremes in this collection because 2 lonely little cremes just made me sad. Before I bitch too much, let me show you the two polishes in question.

China Glaze Queen B 1

China Glaze Queen B 2China Glaze Queen B is a gorgeous indigo creme that totally brings thoughts of fall to my mind. Me likey…me likey a lot. I was a little scared that this color would be a major stainer, but it really wasn’t. The formula was pretty nice on this one and I only needed two coats for these swatches.

China Glaze Charmed, I'm Sure 1

China Glaze Charmed, I'm Sure 2

And here is another entry in the lovely dark greyed purple creme to lust over. China Glaze Charmed, I’m Sure was the one polish that I was immediately drawn to when I first lay eyes on this collection, and I’m definitely still loving it. The formula on this one was good as well: super glossy, smooth and very pigmented. Another win for the cremes!

I know this is just a tiny glimpse into this collection, but so far so good! I will be swatching the foils next and I have to admit that I kind of HATE foils and chromes–like absolutely hate them. However, I am going to try to keep an open mind and not be a total killjoy because I know a lot of people LOVE fall collections (me being one of those Fall lovers!). So let me know what you think of these two cremes: yay or nay? How do you feel about chrome/foil polishes? Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon!

Hey there! I hope you have had a good weekend and that you are ready to start yet another workweek. On my end, I can admit I have been super lazy about my blog this past week. I am sorry for not getting around to answering comments until now, but I swear I have a good reason: I’m super lazy. Ok, that’s not really an excuse, but I have been pretty busy all week. I’ll start with the best news: I was able to get my work schedule changed so I no longer have to get up at the buttcrack of dawn in order to be at work at 5:00 am. Holy crap that feels amazing to share because now I will be starting at 7:00 am which means I won’t have to go to bed while the sun is still up! I can’t even tell you what a huge difference this is going to make in my personal life. Secondly, I had a friend visit this weekend and we seriously destroyed all my nail polish haunts. I’ve never gone polish shopping with someone who is just as polish crazy as I am so this was awesome because we egged each other on to new heights of frenzy induced polish purchases. Fun times!

Today I’m going to share with you a polish that had flown under my radar: Butter London Tart With A Heart. If you remember the early days of this blog, I was a major glitter hater until I came to my senses and realized that glitter is…life! haha! Anyway, I was super happy to finally get my hands on this gorgeous polish.

Butter London Tart With A Heart 1

Butter London Tart With A Heart 2

Butter London Tart With A Heart is a glitter explosion in a clear base so it’s perfect for layering. This polish will look different depending on what you use as a base color.  For this mani, I decided to use Morgan Taylor So-fari So Good which seemed like a strange choice because I have seen tons of people swatching Tart With A Heart on top of a black base. The glitter was super easy to apply, and I didn’t have any issues at all with getting even coverage with just one coat.

What do you think about this oldie but goodie? I am pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this glitter polish because I wasn’t that excited when I first saw it in the bottle. I can see myself sprucing up many manicures with this gorgeous glitter.

For more information on Butter London, make sure you follow them on Facebook, Twitter and check out their website. Thanks so much for stopping by today despite my random posting this week. I have tons of fun stuff coming up such as my swatches for the China Glaze Autumn Nights Collection and a new Jessica Summer Collection for which I have NO information yet, but the colors are freaking amazeballs.  I picked up A LOT of stuff this weekend so I have a lot of swatching ahead of me. Also, don’t forget to check out my blog sale.  I am extending the 10% off sale for a few more day so take advantage of it now. I will catch up with you later!

Those of you who know me, probably know how much I hate birds. This isn’t just like a dislike of birds, I actually find them disgusting and terrifying. Every time that I think of birds, I imagine feeling their weird scaly feet on my hand I nearly convulse. Napoleon Dynamite is one of my favorite movies, and this scene still cracks me up and horrifies me at the same time.

I freaking hate chickens too. So much so that I didn’t eat chicken for years. I really don’t know where my hatred for birds started, but I always remember going to visit my grandparents in Mexico when I was a kid. They had a lot of animals and they had this crazy rooster that would always poke at my legs with its beak and rip my tights. My mom always dressed me in frilly dresses and tights, and I ripped holes into every single pair. No one believed me that the rooster would chase me and poke holes in my tights so maybe that’s where it all started because I always got in trouble over that. I was about 4 years old when I encountered that psychotic rooster so my hate goes deep.

Well, imagine my horror when all these feather-type polishes started popping up. I first heard about them from Nails Inc. and I actually passed on them because they had a picture of a bird on the cap. I was slightly relieved when Sally Hansen put them out as “Fuzzy Coats,” but I still ended up passing on them. Well, last week I caved when I saw them at a local beauty supply. Despite the very avian names of these polishes, I decided to suck it up and swatch them for the benefit of you, my readers, and my own curiosity. I layered all of these polishes over a colored base because I did not want to fuss with the application of wearing them alone. I am going to show you my swatches first and will then talk about the actual polishes because the formula on them was identical across the board.

I didn’t really have any issues with the formula on these polishes. I started out applying two thin coats of the glitter to try to build it up. However, I found that applying one thick coat by loading up my brush with glitter and then pushing it around on my nails gave me the best result. I wasn’t going for a completely opaque glitter coverage, so this method worked for me just fine. I noticed that I was getting glitter basically sticking over my nail edge so I just had to push it back or smooth it back with the brush. I think these polishes dry a little dull since they are full of matte bar glitters and your nails will feel a little rough unless you put on a nice heavy coat of top coat. Someone who shall remain nameless mentioned that these polishes reminded her of armpit hair shavings. LOL Omg…I am still not over that comment and wish I had come up with it myself.  Overall, I think these are fun but they are not for me. First of all, the whole bird thing…

Secondly, I just think they look a little weird. I can see this trend going the way of the crackle except that crackle never made me want to vomit so there you go.  While I can see the allure of these and can understand why they’ve been so popular, I think this will be my first and last experiment with feather/fuzzy polishes.

So what about you? What do you think of this collection or trend in general? Are you going to be getting any of these? What are some of your phobias? Thanks so much for stopping in today, and I will talk to you soon!

Essie For The Twill Of It Collection – Fall 2013

Essie For The Twill Of It Collection – Fall 2013

How are you on this fine Monday morning? I’m barely able to keep my eyes open today since I got to bed later than I should have. Story of my life. I am still waiting to hear back on a change of schedule request that I submitted a few weeks ago. I just feel that if I had more normal work hours, it would go a long way to helping me not hate my job so much. So on this bright Monday morning, I have something new for Fall to share with you: the Essie For The Twill Of It Collection.

Essie Vested Interest 1

Essie Vested Interest 2

Essie Vested Interest reminded me of a more grayed out School Of Hard Rocks which is one of my favorite polishes but because it is a lot more green, I get insane lobster hands with it. I pretty much love this color and the formula was amazeballs: smooth, creamy and opaque.

Essie Twin Sweater Set 1

Essie Twin Sweater Set 2

Ahhh…reds. Yes, I love red nails because they look classy and fun at the same time. This does not apply when nails are very long because super long talons and red nail polish look kinda of bad to me but that’s just my personal opinion. Essie Twin Sweater Set is a classic magenta-type red that has some jelly qualities too is so it looks shiny and squishy. It reminded me a bit of my favorite red of all time: OPI Vodka & Caviar.

Essie The Lace Is On 1

Essie The Lace Is On 2

I wasn’t that excited about Essie The Lace Is On when I first saw bottle shots, but this color is on fire! The way it glows really makes this a gorgeous choice for fall. The thing I didn’t like is that it looks a little brush stroke-y.

Essie Cashmere Bathrobe 1

Essie Cashmere Bathrobe 2

Essie Cashmere Bathrobe is a nice gray creme–not too interesting but definitely a nice color with some great shimmer and glitter throughout.

Essie After School Boy Blazer 1

Essie After School Boy Blazer 2

I really wondered about the silly name of Essie After School Boy Blazer, but I didn’t dwell on it since this darkened  navy blue is freaking gorgeous. This one is pretty similar to OPI Incognito In Sausalito but maybe looks a tad darker and more black.

Essie For The Twill Of It 1

Essie For The Twill Of It 2

Essie For The Twill Of It was my photography nemesis. This polish is one of those multi-chrome polishes with a gorgeous color shift with some gray, green/teal and purple. However, my lighting and camera would not capture all the beautiful color shifts. Oh well. I did try to take some pictures in different lighting below which barely start to show the different flashes of color.

Essie For The Twill Of It 5

Essie For The Twill Of It 3

Essie For The Twill Of It 4

Now that the fall collections are starting to pop up, I am super excited about getting my hands on them. My thoughts on this collection as a whole is that it’s nice. Yes, nice. I mean, that in the way that it’s not bad, but it’s not that exciting either. However, I do want to say that the formula on all of these polishes is superb. If you have read my posts on the last few Essie collections, you might have noticed my complaints about the difficult formula. These polishes completely redeemed Essie polish formula in my eyes. Seriously–these babies are all smooth, pigmented, self leveling and only needed two coats for full opacity. If the colors had excited me more, I might not be putting these up on my blog sale. Yes, ladies, these are up on my blog sale now so check them out here along with a lot of other polishes.

So, let me know what you think of this collection–do you have a favorite? What have you thought about Essie’s previous releases this year? Thanks so much for stopping in today and have a great day!

Hello friends! Have you ever slept in a weird position and your body feels out of whack? When I woke up this morning, I was hanging off the bed…how do you even stay asleep when half your body is hanging off the edge of your bed? Now today my arms are crazy sore for whatever reason. I’m such a weirdo. I’ve always had a lot of sleeping issues and strange habits. I am not sure if I have talked about this on my blog yet, but I used to have a lot of sleep paralysis episodes. Basically, you feel like you are awake but you’re unable to move or speak. My episodes usually involved me seeing and feeling something move in the dark. Then I would feel the pressure of something getting on my bed, crawling up me and trying to smother or choke me. There were even times when it felt like I was being dragged off my bed. If this has ever happened to you, I’m sure you know how scary that feels. I am not necessarily religious, but I would pray like crazy whenever that happened until the feeling went away and I was able to get up. For like the longest time I thought my apartment was haunted or that I was going nuts–and then I read up on Sleep Paralysis which I am fairly certain is what I experienced. The worst part was that it was happening often…maybe a couple of times per month so I was freaking out all the time. I haven’t had one of those episodes in a while now so I’m super relieved. Watch me have one tonight…

Anyway, now that I’ve terrified you about possibly experiencing Sleep Paralysis, let me make it all better by showing you some new pretty polish. I picked up the Contrary Polish Color Context Trio as soon as the minis were available on Carrie’s blog. I know I mentioned it when I reviewed the Ain’t That A Beach Trio, but I am completely smitten and in love with Contrary Polish. If you haven’t tried these, do yourself a favor and at least pick up a mini or two and get ready for a polishgasm.

I didn’t talk about each polish individually because the formula was pretty consistent on all three polishes: I felt it was a tad thicker than what I like and it was a little sheer as well. I applied two thick coats and that gave me full coverage. I wish my pictures could capture just how glowy these polishes are. I absolutely adore these three polishes, but I have to say that I’ve got a big old polish boner for Greenhouse. I can’t stand how gorgeous this polish is and I must have the full size stat!

I also want to mention that I had some issues with the brushes on a couple of polishes from the Ain’t That A Beach Trio. Carrie included a few extra caps in my package since she read about it here. I know it was just something small but it wowed me because she not only read my review, but actually did something about it! Once again, I’m telling you that the customer service I’ve gotten from the indie brands I buy from is spectacular. If you’re interested in purchasing some minis, Carrie sells them on her blog on Fridays. You can check them out here. If you want to purchase a full size bottle, you can check at the following stockists: Llarowe, Femme Fatale Cosmetics and Shoppe Eclecticco.

Thanks so much for checking in with me today and talk to you soon!

OPI San Francisco Collection – Shimmers

OPI San Francisco Collection – Shimmers

It’s Wednesday which means that I am doing a little happy dance because I had the day off! Woot! Even more importantly, I was able to sleep in until 7 am which was an unbelieavable treat. I don’t think the majority of people have to wake up at 3:45 am to get to work by 5:00 so sleeping in feels like heaven. I’ve been rewatching the first season of The Walking Dead all morning so I feel kind of scared and jumpy, but man is this show good. I didn’t do as much swatching as I was hoping to do since I was able to finish the swatches for this post last night.

Today I have the third and final part of my posts featuring the OPI San Francisco Collection. (You can see my posts for the cremes and the liquid sands by clicking on the links.) This post is going to feature the shimmers which also include some multi-chrome goodness. Let’s get this polish show on the road!

OPI Dining Al Frisco 1

OPI Dining Al Frisco 2

When I first started seeing swatches of OPI Dining Al Frisco, I was thinking to myself: “No, oh no. Not a frost, please no!!!” While this isn’t as frosty as I thought it was going to be, it’s still not a color I would normally gravitate towards and the application is a bit tricky because it’s very prone to brushstrokes.

OPI Embarca-dare Ya! 1

OPI Embarca-dare Ya! 2

If you love glowing lit-from-within polishes, you’re probably going to like OPI Embarca-dare Ya! I really like the base color of this polish but it did seem a little thin upon application. The second coat gave me an opaque finish.

OPI Haven't The Foggiest 1

OPI Haven't The Foggiest 2

OPI Haven’t The Foggiest isn’t very interesting to me. I’m not a big fan of silvery polishes. The application of this polish is great because it’s very easy to control, and it’s practically a one coater. I no longer have OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous, but this reminds me a lot of it.

OPI I Knead Sour-dough 1

OPI I Knead Sour-dough 2

I wasn’t expecting to like OPI I Knead Sour-dough but it really won me over once I applied it. The formula on this one also seemed a little thin, but two coats were enough for a nice even finish. This one reminds me of a darker and more glow-y version of Gouda Gouda Two Shoes. It’s not a dupe by any means, but it’s definitely a relative.

OPI Muir Miur On The Wall 1

OPI Muir Miur On The Wall 2

OPI Muir Miur On The Wall is so gorgeous. The pigmentation on this was deceptively thin but it looked perfect once I applied the second coat. I love dark blackened colors like this especially when they have some amazing shimmer.

OPI Peace & Love & OPI 1

OPI Peace & Love & OPI 2

Last but certainly not least, here is the belle of the ball: OPI Peace & Love & OPI. I had heard talk about how amazing this polish is and I am so mad at myself for not being able to capture it’s full multi-chrome goodness. You can kind of see the purple flash at the edges which is basically just one of the colors that you will see as you change the angle of this polish.  It’s just gorgeous.

So what do you think? My three favorites from this part of the collection are I Knead Sour-dough, Muir Muir On The Wall and Peace & Love & OPI. I hope you have liked my swatches of this 15 piece collection. I’m sorry if I have now enabled you to purchase some or all of these–apparently it’s what I do best. Don’t forget to let me know if you have any favorites. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I will talk to you soon.!

It’s Tuesday and I am kind of super excited because I have tomorrow off. Woooooot! I am going to try to get all my errands done today so I can have a completely lazy day tomorrow full of swatching fun. There are days when I love blogging and other days when I feel like it’s a second job. Those of you who blog will understand this because the amount of time we spend on blogging is crazy, but I stick with it because I really do love it for the most part. I have met a lot of great people through this blogging adventure so I’m going to keep at it while it’s fun.

Today I have an amazing collection to share with you: LCN Shades of Desert Collection for Summer 2013. This collection is so bright and gorgeous that I was itching to get these colors on my nails. Let me show you what I’m talking about.

LCN Blue Oasis 1

LCN Blue Oasis 2

I decided to show you LCN Blue Oasis first because it is my absolute favorite from this collection. It pained me to remove this color in order to swatch the rest. I want to mention that i had very minor staining with this polish, but I didn’t wear a base coat. I only needed two smooth coats for full coverage.

LCN Fiery Cumin 1

LCN Fiery Cumin 2

LCN Fiery Cumin made me this of terra cotta…but more orange. Isn’t it like that Crayola crayon called Burnt Orange? Man, I used to love coloring when I was a kid. I was so OCD about my crayons too so I would always have to keep them nice and sharpened. In kindergarten, this boy who used to bug me a lot would eat crayons and then show me how the wax was stuck to his teeth–yuck! Anyway, I didn’t think that I would like Fiery Cumin that much, but it’s another ugly/pretty color. It’s pumpkinlicious!

LCN Hot Chili 1

LCN Hot Chili 2

LCN Hot Chili has a jelly-esque quality to it so it shows some VNL after two coats. This color isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s glossy, smooth and squishy. Two thumbs up!LCN Pink Pepper 1

LCN Pink Pepper 2

I think that hot pink is starting to be MY color so I was psyched to see another amazing pink in this collection. LCN Pink Pepper is a richly pigmented and smooth creme–the stuff my polish wet dreams are made of. Do I have a lot of hot pinks? Yes. Do I want more? YES!!!

I think that what makes this collection a winner for me is the fact that while the colors aren’t exactly unique, the formula is completely amazing and all the colors go so well together.  Don’t you just love perfectly cohesive collections? It’s like there was thought put into it instead of just randomly throwing a bunch of colors together.
