Blue Balls or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Da Bomb

I doubt that the title of my post will make much sense to anyone, but I guess that will just keep my blog in the same vein of nonsensical ramblings. A while back, I purchased some mood changing polishes but I hadn’t gotten around to trying them out. Since I have a pretty blue that is supposed to change from blue to neon blue, I decided to try out it today for my Blue Balls Manicure. (:P Ciaté.) I wasn’t expecting much from this polish since it is supposed to change from one blue to another blue? LAME. However, I really liked it despite the kind of atrocious formula. It’s super sheer so I had to apply 4 coats. Yes, 4 coats! It dries matte and I didn’t attempt to apply a top coat because I was afraid I might ruin the color changing effect…and after applying that many coats, I was not about to take a chance. I just burst into song after typing the last sentence: If you change your mind//I’m the next in line//Honey I’m still free//Take a chance on me.

It was hard to take pictures of this polish because as soon as I exposed my nails to hot or cold water, by the time I dried them and went outside to take some pictures, they were already fading back to another color, so that explains the water on my hands.

These are pictures of my nails at room temperature or outside temperature, rather. You can see some of the darker color on the tips of my nails before the heat of the sun started to change them to the neon shade.

This was the result after running my hands under hot water: a more neon blue.

And this is the effect of cold water. It’s supposed to be a darker blue, but it starts to change almost immediately to the neon blue because it’s kind of hot outside.

And finally, la pièce de résistance, the thing you have been waiting for: My Blue Balls Manicure or MBBM.

I hope you’re having a nice Friday. Do you have any plans for the weekend? What do you think about my Blue Balls Manicure? I hope it was all you had hoped for. 😉

    1. I don't see them around too often. I think they were a fad a while ago but I never had one…or maybe I did. I was not addicted to nail polish back then.

  1. Hahaha BLUE BALLS!! Love it. 😀 That nail polish is pretty cool, too. Subtle but neat how it creates a slight gradient effect when it's changing. I saw one (on Beautylish) that changed from green to blue and it was awesome! I used to have some of this when I had acrylics back in HS and I think it works a little better on fake nails cuz they're thicker and cooler so they change more. Does that make sense? Good thing your nails are long now cuz my short little stubbies would never change. They're all nail bed. haha. Anyway, these are awesome, and the name is hilarious. I wonder if everyone knows what blue balls are…? Oh well, it's not gonna be ME who explains it! ;p

    1. I think you misunderstand me, dear Lady. The title of my post comes from the fact that the beads are spherical hence ball-shaped and they are blue…so blue balls. I haven't the slightest idea what you're alluding to…

Oh, and yes! It makes sense why it would work better on fake nails. I have another mood polish that turns from green to turquoise so that might be nicer. Even the sun made the polish change. The super old CG In The Mood polish that I got no longer changes colors because it's so old. Sad about that.

      1. Liar.

In response to the rest- ahh that sucks it doesn't work any more because it's old. I guess that makes sense though that some special stuff like that might have more of an expiration date. 🙁 Next time I'm at the mall I'm going to get some of this and try it out. I wonder if you layered it over a similar color if it would still work. 4 coats can be pretty annoying depending on dry time, etc.

    1. Unfortunately it's not a very convenient look if you're going to be doing anything with your hands! lol I let the beads dry and set for a long time and they still popped right off. I guess you could put a coat of topcoat on top of the beads, but I think that kind of ruins the look.

"Candy, stop picking your balls!" Ahhh…now that would be funny to say. hehehe

  3. This looks amazing! Were the beads a pain to get off your nails?

Your title made me a laugh a ridiculous amount. Apparently I'm a twelve-year-old boy at heart. XD

    1. LOL…I have achieved my purpose! 🙂

The beads are actually a pain to keep on your nails. I let them really dry and set but they started popping off almost immediately. People recommend that you add some topcoat, but I think it changes the look. I guess this is a look for a few hours if you're looking to do something interesting.
